Shakin’ Shins

September 24, 2009

Sculpt was hard! We had a different instructor this week and he worked us in a different style than Michelle usually does. One thing I had never done before: exercised my shins! We did all these hee-toe lifts and my shins were all tingly and fluttery afterwards. I’m slightly shaking from head to toe!

I wasn’t too hungry when I got home because breakfast was eaten late, but once I’d showered and dressed i was ready for this pimento cheese sammie Matt brought home. His Great Harvest store just started selling sandwiches! This is pimento cheese with candied pecans (YES!) on ciabatta with cuc and lettuce.

He was tall but skinny. It was great – I would have preferred whole wheat bread though, but I didn’t build this sandwich!

On the side I had my planned lunch – leftover butternut stoup, which is really anything but a soup. It’s a root veggie mash at this point. Topped with cinnamon it still tasted as good as it did last week.

Fancy Chrome

Do you use Google Chrome for your web browser? If you don’t, you should! [Not sure if there’s a Mac version yet]

  • #1 reason = it’s totally clean and simple. No mumbo jumbo at the top to confuse the eye!
  • Tabs that do cool things like pop in and out of the browser when you drag them and change easily change order
  • A simple, clean bookmarks bar
  • An opening page that shows all of your most visited websites (Mine include KERF, Mint, Google Analytics, Google Reader, Google Calendar, Facebook and my classroom website)
  • You can also always see your last 5 closed tabs in case you accidentally close one
  • You can type Google searches right into the address bar so if you get a web address wrong it just searches for you
  • It’s really FAST!
  • And more you can read about here!

Chrome pages

Yesterday I discovered that Chrome has themes to make it even more pretty! I’m using MARBLE as you can see above. There are cool grass ones and colors – but they were a bit too busy for me.

Chrome themes

Gmail tutorial coming sometime in the future!

Gotta run!

Lunch looks great!

I use Google Chrome both at work and at home. I love it for general web surfing, blog reading and my personal blog. I don’t like it for some of my work applications because it prints some things in japanese and for my work website, all of the functions don’t work properly. I always have to remember to use IE for work purposes.

6 Anne [email protected] New Weigh September 24, 2009 at 1:33 pm

The sandwich looks perfect! I’ve never used Google chrome, but it looks interesting.

7 megan September 24, 2009 at 1:42 pm

i’ve been wondering about google chrome. I use google everything else (mail, reader, calendar) so I figured it must be good, but I’ve yet to make the switch. Thanks for the info!

8 Sally September 24, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Are you using a new camera?

I’ve been noticing some fabulous photos of your food recently… not that they weren’t fabulous before but even more so now. :)

9 Sarah R September 24, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Sounds like you had quite the workout. Sadly Google Chrome isn’t available for Macs yet… they should really pay you for all of the endorsing you do for them on the blog!

10 Julie @savvyeats September 24, 2009 at 1:45 pm

I love Great Harvest sandwiches! There used to be a Great Harvest near the place I interned… it was a popular lunch spot for my friends and I!

11 Heather September 24, 2009 at 1:49 pm

I love the bowl you ate your mash out of. It reminds me a lot of the bowls/plates we used at my grandmother’s house in Maine.

I need to check out the google chrome – looks easy to use.

12 haya September 24, 2009 at 1:50 pm

you know your soup has gotten REALLY THICK when you can pile it on your plate!
this is how i love my soup.

13 Brie (The Fit Bride) September 24, 2009 at 1:51 pm

I’ve been meaning to check out Chrome. Thanks for the reminder!

14 Whitney @ Lettuce Love September 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I love that you love all things Google! I am obsessed with gmail, gchat, gcalendar, and chrome!

15 Shannon (The Daily Balance) September 24, 2009 at 2:11 pm

love the ‘soup!’ Squash is one of my favorite fall flavors, and the touch of cinnamon sounds delish!

Thanks for the info on Chrome!

16 Caroline September 24, 2009 at 2:14 pm

I love, love, love Google Chrome! There is (sadly) not a mac version yet, but its in the works. I’m so excited about the themes, I hadn’t noticed before!!

17 Courtney September 24, 2009 at 2:20 pm

I love weight lifting classes! They are so much better than just lifting on your own- you don’t get so bored!

Also, remember to bring lots of layers to SF… It can be hot and freezing in the same day!

19 Natalie September 24, 2009 at 2:21 pm

That sandwhich looks amazing!

I’ve been lurking since you started this amazing site but have never stopped to say hello. All this time…. What a shame.

You’re an inspiration and I thank you for encouraging me to treat my body better. Or at least try!

Keep it up!

20 Cynthia (It All Changes) September 24, 2009 at 2:21 pm

That’s body part I never thought to work. Interesting.

21 Julia September 24, 2009 at 2:21 pm

MMm…I must say that the cheese and pecan combination on a sandwich is a bit unusual for me, but it DOES sound good!

22 kay (eating machine) September 24, 2009 at 2:37 pm

i love themes in my gmail (it rains in it!) but ihaven’t played with other google stuff as much..

23 Rebecca September 24, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I went to a sculpt class once and haven’t gone back for some reason. I should- it was fun!

24 Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries September 24, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Totally with you on the Chrome love! It is SO SO much faster than Mozilla! I tried using Mozilla as a second browser so I could be logged into both of my Gmail accounts, and I can’t get over how much slower it is! Plus, love the CTRL+click function to open a new tab! LIFE CHANGING!

25 Jo @ Seeking Healthy Balance September 24, 2009 at 2:55 pm

I’ve been using Chrome for about a month now and love it. Its great that you can get tabs back as I am forever closing the wrong tab!

26 [email protected] September 24, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I loooooove pimiento cheese. Yummy sandwich! And yes, exercising the shins takes some getting used to but is super good for runners. Toe taps have saved my legs!

27 Jenn (www. ) September 24, 2009 at 3:02 pm

That sandwich looks great!! Not sure if I’ve ever had pimento cheese, I need to try some!

28 Kirsten September 24, 2009 at 3:07 pm

I love pimento cheese! I had it for the first time in Charleston a few weeks ago

29 shawna September 24, 2009 at 3:12 pm

I have chrome on my computer. Just not sure why I use it. Maybe I’ll start…tomorrow :)

30 Steph September 24, 2009 at 3:15 pm

Thanks Kath! I already upgraded to google chrome :)

31 Kristen @ September 24, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I took a lifting class at my gym on Monday and I could barely move my arms on Tuesday from all of the tricep and chest work. But doesn’t feeling sore from tough weight work feel kind of awesome? Or maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment!

32 Mel @ She Runs Brooklyn September 24, 2009 at 3:35 pm

dude. the first thing i noticed was the quality of your lunch photos. it looks like your new camera rocks!!

33 Morgan (lifeafterbagels) September 24, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Gmail tutorial – finally! I can’t wait.

34 Pam (Highway to Health) September 24, 2009 at 3:42 pm

You are the google queen! They should hire you to give tutorials!

Your pictures are AMAZING!

35 Susan September 24, 2009 at 4:07 pm

I just switched to using chrome because explorer was giving me too many headaches. I love it! I also like how it has a little bar at the bottom when you download things :)

36 grace September 24, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Safari (Mac Browser) is actually almost identical to google chrome! Guess you could say us Mac users are lucky. 😉

37 Emily, homecookedem September 24, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I get that shaky feeling after classes too!

That sandwich looks great!! Never heard of that combo of pimiento cheese and pecans, but that sounds amazing!! :)

38 Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now September 24, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I have to say that I tried google chrome and it made my computer freeze. I use firefox, and it actually has all the same features you mentioned in your list. Just an FYI for any of your readers who have the same problem with google chrome as I did!

39 Lynn @ The Actors Diet September 24, 2009 at 5:23 pm

i like the word chrome.

40 Barbara(Blood, Sweat and Heels) September 24, 2009 at 5:32 pm

I had to had soup because yours looked so mega yum:). Perfect for icky chilly wet weather….

41 Marisa (Trim The Fat) September 24, 2009 at 5:40 pm

Thanks for the heads up on Chrome! Might have to try that!

42 Jess September 24, 2009 at 5:47 pm

I use Chrome on my home PC, which I don’t use very often, but I love it. I have Firefox on my laptop, which I like just as much. They also introduced the “top 9 visited sites” on your homepage concept with the latest version, which is awesome.

43 maria September 24, 2009 at 5:48 pm

Would love to see a tutorial for Gmail. I use it and think I have a good grasp on it, but I am sure I could be more efficient with it. :)

That sammich looked divine!

44 Christina MINDFUL LIVING September 24, 2009 at 5:55 pm

matts bread looks so good!

45 Cara (Cara Craves...) September 24, 2009 at 5:59 pm

Have to say, I am a little jealous of the sandwich!

46 Melissa September 24, 2009 at 6:00 pm

Cool, I am gonna have to give Google Chrome a try! Thanks for sharing! :)

47 Sarena September 24, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Stoup is the best!

48 angieinatlanta September 24, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Oh man, so havin’ pimento cheese jealousy over here!

49 Stacy September 24, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I’ve seen you blog about pimento cheese a few times now and am wondering is this a east coast thing because I haven’t seen it here in ca. Can you make your own?

50 Lauren September 24, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Thanks for the tip on Chrome! I’m downloading it now.

You are always full of great advice.

Thanks Kath! :)

51 linda September 24, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Your “tall and skinny” description cracked me not because the description wasn’t accurate, but rather it was so on the spot!

52 Jac September 24, 2009 at 7:31 pm

thanks.. i was using google chrome all along, and i didn’t even know they had themes! Thanks for the heads up. and that’s a good looking sandwich there.. enough to keep ya full?

53 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope September 24, 2009 at 7:55 pm

What a neat sandwich… so cute! And I think that’s awesome how you get to workout your shins. That’s definitely an area I think we tend to forget about, so it’s always fun to have that burn/tingle sensation when you KNOW you just got in a great workout!

54 Kath September 24, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Yes, search for the post “KERF v 2.6 PRO”

I think it’s a southern thing. Go to and search for Kelsey’s recipe. It’s fabulous!

55 Janna (Just Flourishing) September 24, 2009 at 10:09 pm

Thanks Kath,

I was wondering about Google Chrome.
I am most definitely going to check it out now.

56 Tay September 24, 2009 at 11:18 pm

I just recently switched over to google chrome from Mozilla. The moving tabs at the top really bug me because I keep accidentally moving them when I switch over though! But I had no idea I could personalize it with themes!! Definitely checking out that one!

57 Jenna September 25, 2009 at 8:29 am
