More floor!!
I couldn’t resist…and it really is the best place for photography
I can only imagine how amazing the porch is going to be in the summertime!
[Do you see our gutter on the left? The chain of upsidedown bells? The plastic gutter just didn’t go…love the modern feel of this one!]
Lunch was a big salad plate. I was at the bakery before lunch and had a few bites of Spinach Feta and a Ginger Cookie piece off the breadboard before heading home for lunch, so I tried to make lunch smaller than normal. Sure doesn’t look any smaller!
Salad with toast, egg cooked in the microwave (eggsploded – don’t think I’m going to ever do that again..), clem and a salad with mixed greens, carrots, avocado and tamari for dessert (=salt soaker!)
Chug-a-lug the H20!
Happy Afternoon!

Yay for mason jars of H2O! Nightly staple for me. LOL at the “eggsplosion” pun. Pun love!
beautiful floor! definitely nice enough to eat off of
and that salad looks delish.
You had me there! haha I really thought the whole plate had messed up the porch or something. I really love your porch! So pretty, and as silly as it sounds, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a house with a porch. Someday~:)
OMG I’d do anything for that gorgeous sunshine you’ve got this afternoon! (And the floor is gorgeous too, of course!)
Gah, I can’t get over the natural light
I absolutely love your photos. They are beautiful! And that salad looks delicious
Your porch should be featured in a magazine it’s so gorgeous!
That’s a gutter? How friggin cool is that!? Your porch reminds me of a Better homes and gardens magazine. So so jealous.
I bought a Copper Cascading Leaves Rain Chain from http://www.monarchrainchains and I love it!
Oh, I love the porch. I am going to go outside and clean mine up. Yours looks so good and clean. You lunch also looks good and clean. Keep posting house pics too. I love them!
That porch will be amazing in the summertime! And I’m loving the floor photos!
The floor is beautiful and I love the porch! I’m jealous! It’s going to be amazing sitting out there in the spring/summer.
Love that salad!
That floor and entire porch is BEAUTIFUL! That will be a perfect place to laze around and read a good book and sip on a drink come summertime. Mmm…
Because of you… I did stick all my grains, pastas, and bread crumbs in mason jars.;)
Lunch looks great and healthy. Love the gutter. Great idea.
It really is beautiful. Your salad looks great.
Your house is absolutely beautiful!! I Can’t believe how stunning that porch is. and is it real hardwood??
And not to mention the salad…that looks just amazing too! Your eggspolision was so cute hahaha.
You must be amazing at your job.
Yes, real wood!
Ugh – eggs exploding in the microwave is the WORST! It’s incredible how they can manage to get EVERYWHERE!
Oh my…I would LOVE to have your porch. The light would be insane. I hope you put some potted herbs out there!
I love taking pictures on my cherry floors…it just feels so warm with the colors! That porch is beautiful! Lunch looks perfect too!
Put your egg in a egg cup holder (microwave-safe) with water (top of the egg still showing). KEY: * Make sure you prick a little hole in the egg before microwaving! – this is key to stopping eggplosions). Then microwave for ~35 seconds; wait a few seconds; and do another 10-15 seconds; wait; maybe another 10 seconds. Check egg for ‘done-ness’.
You beat me to it!
Pricking the yolk is the key to avoiding egg-plosions!
Yes – and learned the hard way!
That’s no fun! You get an explosion this way! HeeHee!
I’ve never seen an egg cup holder, but I bet the poking would help a TON! Thanks
I am loving your porch! It beautiful and looks so relaxing! I have never seen a gutter like that, it def. beats the old plastic kind!
It actually took me a minute to realize that the upside down bells were the gutter. How unique! They don’t disturb the view at all.
Wow, your porch just keeps getting better & better! I LOVE the chain-style downspout. I think those originated in Japan? Really beautiful.
Love your rain chain! We have one in our backyard that my husband made into a fountain. You will enjoy the sound on a rainy day. Your sun porch is gorgeous!
ha – i do love that shiny floor
That porch is absolutely beautiful.
I’m a long-time lurker on your blog, but I just had to post that your porch is so gorgeous! I absolutely love the downspout. I have never seen anything like it? Would you mind sharing where you got it from? Thanks for such a great blog!
Welcome Kate!! Our contractor ordered it for us, so I’m not sure which company, but here is a site with similar options: http://rainchains.com/
Awesome! Thanks so much!!
Where in the world did you get that gutter-thing?! Do each of the bells drain completely? I’m enthralled!
This site has similar ones! http://rainchains.com/
I haven’t seen it in action yet…but someone posted a video further down
It does make a lovely back drop!
Fantastic! You are my salad inspiration
Looks like a beauty of a day there…beats the concrete sky, wind and temps falling into the freezing range. Could use a blast of sunshine…I’ll have to think sunshiney thoughts instead!
I feel like that always happens to me too. I sometimes snack too much and I’m not too hungry for dinner but hungry enough to have something. I try to make a smaller meal with salad and then I realize the salad or whatever is taking up the whole plate. I think it’s because when I’m preparing dinner I always have similar portions so I’m used to putting the same and I always keep adding more toppings. Eyes are bigger than stomach I suppose
“Gutter” seems to industrial of a word for what you’ve got
That is awesome- I’ve never seen them before.
that looks like a lovely porch for spring/summer gatherings!
Soon enough!
What a gorgeous timber floor!
I had no idea they made gutters like that. It’s awesome!
That salad certainly sounds good! That’s my dinner choice tonight. Big Ole Salad!
Rain Chain!! They sure look beautiful. That floor is amazing!!!
Please share – is the porch real wood? Would love to consider that but wonder how it would weather – you must have a special finish. Can you share where you got the rain chain, that is a lovely idea.
Yes, the whole porch is real wood! The floor was regular builders wood and they stained it this week
I like those kind of lunches. Just needs some yogurt with chocolate on the side!
Hiya toots! I was just listening to this cutie-pah-tootie and thought of you.

Loooooove!!! His songs came on during my run today!
What a gorgeous floor! I’d eat off of it too!
That is the cutest gutter I have ever seen lol. The space is so beautiful.
Your porch is flippin’ fantastic. Love it.
I can see the porch is teasing you…especially today with all the sunshine! Lunch looks very yum!
Kath, the porch is STUNNING! I love it!!! I couldn’t stop staring at that beautiful full porch photo!
Sooooo beautiful!
How do those upside down bell work? I’ve never seen anything like that before.
Here is a video… http://tinyurl.com/cyclukg
These rain chains make a backyard/porch look so much better than that ugly plastic.
It has yet to rain here, but video looks fun!
Wow, the porch looks beautiful!
Ugh, I’ve had eggs explode on me one too many times in the microwave. . . decided to stop doing that too.
ahahah oh my. careful with the microwave! I’m pretty sure EVERYTHING I make in the microwave either explodes or overflows. #sadtruth
PRetty pics!!
that floor is gorgeous and the shot of the white-framed porch, overlooking the outdoors, with the sunlight coming in…Better Homes & Gardens is calling wondering if they can use the pic
Just stopped in to say your porch looks AMAZING! I’ve never seen anything like that downspout before – so cool. Happy almost-Friday!
Stop by in real life to see it soon!! Remember the old stoop!?!
gorgeous pictures!!!
Man I love that porch! I would stay on that porch day and night.
Oh my gosh – that full shot of the porch – it’s gorgeous! Are you planning on just putting a dining table out there, or some chairs for relaxing and reading too?
all of the above
Haha when I saw the title I thought you spilled your lunch on the floor! This is much better!
Don’t let my boyfriend know, but I am in love with the porch floor!
LOVE that stain color! We just stained our back deck and weren’t thrilled with the way it turned out. Do you know the brand/name of the color of your stain?
I think it was California Redwood – and then the second layer was something Oak? I’m sorry but I don’t know – the painters picked it out after I described the colors we were after
Wow you have an amazing porch!!! I am jealous
Lighting is everything in photography, that looks like a perfect place to shoot!!
I love the long chain of upside down bells!

Your floors look great! Our inside floors just got done today. Golden Pecan stain, they are beautiful! Two more coats of poly tomorrow and they’ll be done!
Love the stain on the porch floor. I’ll make the same comment I made on Nov. 25 about the porch which was: “Is the porch screened in? It looks like the sliding doors have so much space underneath that lots of bugs and mosquitoes could get in.” And your reply was: “It’s not finished.” I’m still not understanding how the amount of space under the sliding doors has changed with space to let bugs in. Help me understand.
Hey Donna, yes it’s screen in all the way now (except for under the floor – that has to happen last). What you probably can’t see because it looks like a gap is the 2-3″ of black rubber weather stripping that is now attached to the bottom of the doors.
You might be able to see it better in the second photo here: http://www.katheats.com/j-o-y
Or the vertical one halfway down this post: http://www.katheats.com/she-likes-it
The stripping sweeps the floor, so it should be as good as we can get it! I really didn’t want swinging doors.
Oh, I see. I didn’t get the weather stripping at the bottom of the doors. Cool.
Beautiful porch, love the view, so calming.
Gorgeous porch, it will be such a treat come spring/summer time.
I had no idea that you could have a creative, imaginative gutter~ so beautiful! First time ive been given gutter~envy!!;)
Oh I just LOVE your “gutter”! Hubby and I used to vacation in the Dominican Republic all the time (before he got – and beat – melanoma) and they had those kinds of ‘gutters’ at our favourite resort. They’re so charming! Pretty to look at when it’s sunny and gorgeous when they’re overflowing with rain. When we buy our own house we’ll definitely be investing in a few, even if they’re just for show.

Don’t know if you’ve tried this method, but I hear it works!
Looks promising!!
