Things That Go Beep In The Night

December 24, 2011

Around 3am last night Matt and I heard a crash…. followed by our alarm going off.

My heart jumped out of my chest!!! Matt actually looked scared as he went to investigate.

MY first thought wasn’t a robbery, but a beer explosion in the brewery. [It happens a lot]

HIS first thought was a picture frame falling off the wall.

Imagine that!

We crept down, rather terrified of what we might find, but we found nothing.

Back upstairs, we realized one of our door sensors had fallen off after being reattached to the new door. WHEW!

Turns out Matt was already awake because he decided at the last minute to bake more bread today and went in for sponge and dough at 3:30!!

Sure was scary! I’m going to fix it today with new sticky because we have one of our employees house sitting for us next week and we want the alarm to be working!

Feeling a little tired, but luckily I was able to sleep until 6:30. I’m on my way to the bakery again.

But not without a big bowl of fuel first! I made whipped banana oatmeal and stirred in a whole egg near the end of cooking. This doesn’t really change the flavor at all – but it does change the texture. The oatmeal is more custardy and soft and fluffy.

Topped with Cville Cluster, Sunbutter and jam!

Tea of the day

Have a wonderful Christmas Eve!

That would scare me too! The other night I heard a knock in the middle of the night, but only once. I wasn’t sure if it was my roommate at my bedroom door, a knock on my window (someone would have to climb a tree for that), or in my dream. It didn’t continue so I dozed back off to sleep and all was good.

Have a fantastic Christmas Eve!

Merry Christmas Eve, Kath!

3 Hillary December 24, 2011 at 8:35 am

I looove putting an egg in my oatmeal. The texture (and extra protein!) are fabulous.

Happy Xmas eve : )

5 Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot December 24, 2011 at 8:37 am

I would say that noise was probably Santa… you should check under your tree for some surprise presents that came early 😉 Happy Christmas eve!

6 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio December 24, 2011 at 8:49 am

I agree with Kinley. It was probably Santa doing a test run. Have a great day at the bakery and Happy Christmas Eve!

Ohh my I never would have been able to fall back asleep after that. Your lucky you have Matt by your side to investigate though! Thank goodness it was nothing serious.

8 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife December 24, 2011 at 8:57 am

Love the green and red! Merry Christmas!

9 Rosie December 24, 2011 at 9:01 am

Glad the crash wasn’t anything too serious. Merry Christmas to you both. Really enjoyed reading you this past year and I’ll try to comment more often. You are so inspiring.

10 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats December 24, 2011 at 9:07 am

That would have scared me to death! Good thing it was just something falling!

11 Mom December 24, 2011 at 9:19 am

12 eef December 24, 2011 at 9:24 am

Another busy day in store for you…good thing you added the egg! Can you believe I will be using parsley from my garden for my Christmas stuffing! I live in Southern Canada! Merry Christmas Eve!

16 The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh December 24, 2011 at 9:43 am

I think I would’ve wee’d myself. That happened to us one night and come to find out it was the entire contents of the guest room closet ripping down out of the wall. (Stupid builder grade everything!) So I know that panic!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

17 Erika - The Teenage Taste December 24, 2011 at 9:53 am

Oh that would scare the bejeezuses (spelling?) out of me! Glad it was nothing serious like a robbery though! Have a great Christmas! 😀

18 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table December 24, 2011 at 9:54 am

That’s so terrifying! I’m glad it turned out to be nothing “scarey.”

Good luck at the bakery today and happy Christmas Eve!!!

19 Gillian @ The Greener Bean December 24, 2011 at 10:00 am

Spooky! That’s the kind of moment where you literally feel your heart pounding out of your chest. Breakfast looks yummy… I’ve never thought about combining an egg with my oats!? Will have to try that one. Merry Christmas Eve! :)

20 stacey December 24, 2011 at 10:14 am

Never thought of putting an egg in my oatmeal!! The egg cooks up because the oatmeal is so hot????

21 KathEats December 24, 2011 at 10:53 am

22 Lindzjane115 December 24, 2011 at 3:22 pm

So you just crack the egg and stir it in raw? I’ve added fried egg….I’ll have to try this!

23 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen December 24, 2011 at 10:26 am

Noises in the middle of the night are the worst! Our smoke detector decided to start beeping the other night b/c of a low battery and unfortunately since it’s hard wired into our house, even when you take the battery out the beeping doesn’t stop! So, I was up from 3-5:30am waiting for the gas station down the road to open so I could buy a 9V battery to shut it up. Ugh.
Merry Christmas Eve! Happy baking :)

24 Roxanne December 24, 2011 at 11:17 am

That’ll teach ya! LOL
Always keep extra/spare batteries in da house!!!!!!!

25 tiffany December 24, 2011 at 10:28 am

Merry Christmas Kath! Hope your christmas and new year is filled with lots of love, laughter and happiness!

Good luck at the bakery today!

Merry Christmas to you and all your loved ones!! Enjoy a fabulous weekend!

28 Roxanne December 24, 2011 at 11:15 am

At least it happened now, while YOU guys were home, not while your employee was housesitting….

29 KathEats December 24, 2011 at 11:43 am

I know. I’m glad we were home – it could have happened during the day.

30 Megan December 24, 2011 at 11:21 am

Funny, I just ate the exact same thing for breakfast – small world. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas Kath!

31 Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous December 24, 2011 at 11:29 am

That oatmeal looks so fluffy!

32 Angel7 December 24, 2011 at 11:45 am

I will have to try an egg in my oatmeal sometime to give it some extra protein.

33 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries December 24, 2011 at 11:56 am

i just discovered “custard oats” a week or so ago! i love ’em! it’s the only way i’ve been making my oatmeal lately. you’re right, it definitely changes the texture, which i love!

34 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count December 24, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Sounds scary, but glad everythin was Ok!

35 Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles December 24, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Merry Christmas eve, Kath & Matt + family & friends!

36 Jennifer December 24, 2011 at 12:55 pm

We’ve had that happen to us in the middle of the night, too. The scariest part is wondering if someone broke into the house and having to go investigate.

I’m glad you figured out the problem and were able to fall back to sleep, too. Amazing!

Hope your day flies by at the bakery so you can relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend. :)

37 Ellie@Fit for the Soul December 24, 2011 at 12:55 pm

Ahhh I think the scariest thing is to feel or hear certain things by being woken right out of my sleep! But so glad nothing crazy happened! 😀

38 Liz @ Tip Top Shape December 24, 2011 at 1:02 pm

That is so scary! I am very glad it wasn’t a burglar–that would have been an unwelcome holiday surprise. Merry Christmas to you and Matt! I hope it’s less eventful than today was!
