Love Letters

June 25, 2002

Dear Koopa,

I’m starting this letter at 10:20 after you dropped me off. I took a small shower and then talked a little with my boys about what they did today. Malcolm went to King’s BBQ and we may go there on long night on Tuesday. I’ll see if he wants to, and you think about it and tell me in your letter tomorrow.

Wheeeeeeeeeeee! I had so much fun today and yesterday sweetie! The whole time I subconsciously felt like we were married…it was such a great feeling. I know we’ve talked about this before but I was just thinking how weird it is that you and I found each other so early in our lives…it makes me nervous and excited! I know that you and I can always work out our problems because we want to. You’re so forgiving of everything, and I feel so free with you. Just having your trust makes me never want to lose it…

I know that I can yield to you for your happiness and sometime soon you’ll do the same for me. I love you.

I am so lucky to have this huge stack of love letters saved from the summer we worked as camp counselors. It was the summer after our Freshman year, just 6 months or so since we started dating. I pulled them out last night to re-read some of the mush.

The bear drawings started early!

I also have a bunch of notes we wrote to each other during college –

Including some he wrote when I wasn’t in my room…

It’s really hard to believe that was 7 years ago and we actually did get married and here we are still in love!

Of course breakfast today had to involve hearts and red

IMG_1690 (1024x768)

The highlight was this chocolate ganache heart that we made from the frozen ganche leftover from my birthday cake!

16 Justy2003 February 14, 2009 at 11:24 am

Your oatmeal is adorable!
Those letters remind me of some that I’ve kept from my boyfriend (oh wait, fiance as of this past Monday!!!). We’ve been together nearly 7 years (since junior year of high school) and I can totally relate to this line in the hubby’s letter: “I was just thinking how weird it is that you and I found each other so early in our lives…it makes me nervous and excited! I know that you and I can always work out our problems because we want to.” We’ve thought about that multiple times!
I’ll hafta drag some of those old letters today…I have quite a few from high school!
Happy Valentine’s Day! πŸ˜€

39 sarahH February 14, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Kath, I have a question for you….
When you run your loops around neighborhoods you plan out, what do you take with you and how do you carry it? I do not feel comfortable running that far from home usually. Do you ever get nervous about something happening?

40 Liz February 14, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s so sweet when you have the chance to relive your young love. Enjoy your time together!

47 Marianne February 14, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Very cute oatmeal this morning.

48 Sarah W. February 14, 2009 at 3:21 pm

that is sooooo cute. you atre SO lucky to have those letters. I kind of wish I ‘saved’ some of the MANY IM conversations my husband and I had while were dating and I was away at college. but oh well, it is what it is!

You should think about scrapbooking those letters so you have them in one place easily displayed :) Thats what I would do.

I do have a letter that we wrote to each other before we got married, that we only shared with the rabbi (which he gleaned his ceremony speech from), who then gave us the letters right after the ceremony when we were having our private moment :) it will be scrapbooked into my wedding album!! can’t wait!

49 Jen February 14, 2009 at 3:41 pm

That bowl is just BEAUTIFUL!

50 Hil February 14, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Love letters are the best. :-) Most of mine came via email in the early days, which is slightly less suitable for saving, but still sweet.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

51 Kath February 14, 2009 at 3:45 pm

sarahH ,
I don’t carry anything with me because our neighborhoods are very residential and public. I don’t run after dark and I generally see lots of other people out exercising. If I were to run on paths in the woods, I wouldn’t go without a partner (or would at the very least carry a cell phone or ID – probably in a zipped pocket).

Sarah W,
A scrap book is a great idea. And I love your letter idea!

52 caitlin (healthy tipping point) February 14, 2009 at 3:51 pm

kath – i was reading the comments and saw sarahH’s comment about safety while running. i’ve been talking to a company called road ID lately and am about to do a giveaway on my blog. i recently purchased road ID dog tags, which i wear around my neck when i am running. the dog tags have my husband’s and my mom’s phone number. did you know if you are hit by a car or pass out while running, the paramedics legally cannot search your belongings to find ID? and if they cannot ID you, they will not give you any treatment beyond emergency medical care — no medication or surgery. i am only realizing now how important it is to keep emergency contacts on you at all times when exercising outside. i will let you know when the giveaway contest starts so maybe some of your readers like sarahH can enter.

53 Kath February 14, 2009 at 3:53 pm

caitlin ,
Yes, I didn’t think about an accident. They should make iPods with the ID info on them – or in a file somehow like the ICE info for cell phones. I’ll be sure to enter the giveaway!

54 Victoria February 14, 2009 at 5:31 pm

That’s so sweet. I have a huge shoebox full of all the letters my husband and I sent each other when we were apart for the 4 months before we got married. I love going back and reading them.

55 amber February 14, 2009 at 6:02 pm

you all are too cute!!!

56 caroline f. February 14, 2009 at 6:07 pm

Oh man, I wanted to cry reading this, seriously tearing up over you too! I love it, enjoy your day! :) Good luck with the rain, Ill send some good energy your way for tonight!

57 WendyF February 14, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Just returned from another trip complete with scary plane ride. It is great to catch up on your blog. Your valentines day sounds like fun and the love letters are wonderful. Being with a chef means he gets out of Valentines Day dinner since he has to cook a special meal at his resturant.

I strongly second the road ID. I am getting a new one(the braclet). A couple of years ago I had a very bad bike crash going downhill. I dislocated my elbow and fractured my forearm. I was on my way to passing out from the pain but managed to tell ‘the chef’ my allergies. It was the one day I did not have my health insurance card on me :-( The road id makes it easy to just have all that information on you.

What beer is the Husband Brewing now?. We just tapped my Birthday Bock. It turned out pretty good.

Have a great Valentines Day

58 Clean Veggie February 14, 2009 at 10:34 pm

most festive oats i have ever seen πŸ˜€
have fun tonight!

59 Kath February 14, 2009 at 11:37 pm

Welcome back! There’s a honey ale brewing now :)

60 amy February 15, 2009 at 1:31 pm

absolutely love your bowl of oatmeal today! adorable!

61 Jess February 15, 2009 at 10:45 pm

Could that be the prettiest bowl of oatmeal ever?

62 Jon February 15, 2009 at 11:32 pm

The Husband must want to hang himself. It can be a very private thing for a man to express his love for his girlfriend or wife. The fact that you exposed that to your readers is in poor taste and doesn’t account for his feelings. I’d be embaressed if my wife pulled that one me to an audience of total strangers that should be something intimate and personal between you and him. So what if it’s Valentines Day and supposed to be sweet you compromise his personal feelings by showing complete strangers his love letters meant for you. Stay with the food.

63 Kath February 16, 2009 at 5:27 am

Jon ,
Of course I asked his permission and he was excited to share.
