Late Bloomer

September 29, 2009

Lesson Learned: Do NOT click the "yes I would like to install Windows Updates" box before blogging. GAH. My computer has been slow as molasses slower than molasses for the past hour and I have done nothing but sit here and stare at the screen. Had i known it would take this long I would have gone to do something else (like turn on my laptop) but I kept thinking any minute it would get back to normal. What a waste of precious time 👿

I did get started on my day rather late. I stayed up working until 11:30 last night and slept until 8:15! I woke up at 6:30 and had to get one of my grandmother’s quilts because our bedroom was freezing with 4 open windows! It was fun once I was warm again though :)

When I woke up I wrote a post for the Mushroom Channel in bed (always do most important tasks first!) and then finally came down to make oats in a jar to warm myself up.

I had planned on Barney Butter oats in a jar this morning, but Karen ate the rest of my jar while I was gone!!!! Not cool!!! Thankfully I had another jar that was ready –

VeggieGirl sent me this Hazelnut butter a while ago and I have loved every bite. It’s got a very unique taste, but it really grew on me.

I filled ‘er up with:

1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt

1 ripe banana

1 tbsp chia seeds

~1/4 cup Mix My Granola

Yummy! Like my pink pajama pants!?

Somebody else was enjoying a nice cricket for breakfast – the horror!

IMG_3990 (640x427)

Our yard was so pretty this AM – basking in the fall crisp shadows

Is it really NOON!?!?!?!?!!? I’m going to work until 1PM, go workout and have lunch at 2 (since I ate breakfast at 9:30 that should work).

Too funny, I actually just typed in your address because I was thinking something must be wrong with my google reader!

Have a good day!

oatmeal looks divine this morning!

3 Madeline @ Greens and Jeans September 29, 2009 at 11:05 am

Hazelnut butter just sounds like a glorious thing! Your yard is so pretty! The one thing I really miss since moving to the southwest is grass and trees! Cacti just leave a little something to be desired.

GORGEOUS PHOTOS! i don’t know how you manage to keep outdoing yourself on all these beauty shots.

hazelnut butter is now added to my grocery list!

I love fall! The fall flowers are amazing, and then you get the fall leaves.

I had to grab a blanket in the middle of the night last night, too! I love waking up to that crisp, cool air.

I think our spiders are twins. They’re crazy, aren’t they! They get bigger every day.

that hazelnut butter sounds awesome.

We went to sleep with all the windows open the other night and woke up to some VERY snuggly dogs trying to keep their little noses warm!!
Love the crisp air..makes me want to run a little faster!!

Have you seen Chocolate Covered Katie’s idea for Banana Butter yet? It’s revolutionary, like Angela’s GMs.

Well it did for me anyway. Here’s the link if you want to check it out:

And now I’m done being an infomercial for the stuff haha!

UGH! That is the reason I have a mac! The updates don’t slow down the puter at all…
Miss VG made me blondies with that nut butter…amazing stuff!

10 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is September 29, 2009 at 11:23 am

OMG I hate spiders so much and I swear they creep up near my door everyday when I am about to leave. Ugh! Yuck.

11 Food Makes Fun Fuel September 29, 2009 at 11:24 am

Ah, you’ve finally depleted the hazelnut butter. I have to admit that’s one I’ve been VERY intrigued about on your blog. I found an organic chocolate hazelnut that’s like nutella with less sugar and more nut that’s really good

12 Leianna September 29, 2009 at 11:24 am

I tried the cashew butter of that brand this morning, so good!
Love your yard pictures!

13 Whitney @ Lettuce Love September 29, 2009 at 11:35 am

I have been meaning to the hazelnut butter. Looks yummy!

14 Maria September 29, 2009 at 11:36 am

Kath, I’m sorry.

I didn’t think to ask you first if it was ok for me to leave a link on your site. If it’s not, please feel free to take it down!

15 Maggie September 29, 2009 at 11:40 am

I had to get my mom’s quilt this morning too! It’s chilly even in CA.

16 maya September 29, 2009 at 11:47 am

17 eliza September 29, 2009 at 11:49 am

18 Rebecca September 29, 2009 at 11:57 am

Hazelnut butter sounds amazing! I love the coffee pouring action pic. :-)

19 haya September 29, 2009 at 12:10 pm

oats in a jar is such a brilliant concept! i had a dark chocolate wonderful jar the other day and it was insanely delish. i’m happy that fall temperatures are here and i can indulge in warm oatmeal again.

i think anyone that has not experienced oats in a jar wouldn’t understand how precious those last scrapings are. in fact, they might think they are doing you a favour buy finishing it up!

20 Bec September 29, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I just got a french press and love it! Almost as much as I love oats in a jar :)

21 [email protected] September 29, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Those “jar of oats” are haunting me…….I see them everywhere and I have yet to make one for myself as I always forget, despite having an empty jar in the pantry! =(

Scary spider, great picture though!

I recently began reading your blog, and as always, what a great post! The yard pictures are gorgeous- I’m hoping I can brush up on my own photography skills and provide some nice New England foliage on mine, but we’ll see how that works out. Your recipes look delicious. Can’t wait to try the Oats in a Jar recipe! I am just returning to healthy eating after a long illness and it’s blogs like yours that are going to help me do it.

23 Danielle September 29, 2009 at 12:27 pm

I love the way the sun looks in the fall, definitely different from spring and summer.
And a lovely breakfast as usual :)

24 VeggieGirl September 29, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Thanks for the shout out! Enjoy the haze 😉

25 Cynthia (It All Changes) September 29, 2009 at 12:45 pm

It’s so strange to think that you are just now pulling out the quilts. We’ve had ours on our bed for weeks. No heat on yet but definitely long PJ pants and quilts.

I slept in late this AM too. I felt like my head was in a fog so I used the time I normally get up to blog to sleep. It felt good.

26 rhodeygirl September 29, 2009 at 12:53 pm

I understand why you always set schedules for yourself. I work from home and sometimes I really just lose track of time.

Beautiful yard!

34 Chloe (Naturally Frugal) September 29, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I love your new shots with your camera, they look so pretty and spice things up a bit!

I definitely need to find some new nut butters. I like my almond and peanut butter, but thanks to you I’m inspired to branch out!

35 natalie September 29, 2009 at 1:49 pm

36 Mary :: A Merry Life September 29, 2009 at 2:11 pm

37 Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers September 29, 2009 at 2:21 pm

38 Christin September 29, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Kath, how do you do it? I could never wake up and immediately start writing! I need to let the brain fog clear first. You are my time management/organizational guru. 😉

enjoy your tuesday!

39 anonymous September 29, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I tried your oats recipe the other day (with the bananas in the pot) and they didn’t break down like you had said they would. do you slice them real thin? the oats picked up all the liquid but the bananas stayed whole. thanks!

40 Joanne September 29, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Enjoyed your Mushroom Channel post. My favorite fresh ‘shrooms are Portobellas (is that 2nd “o” suppose to be an “a”… I can never remember :( ). But I REALLY like to use dried mushrooms, rehydrated and adding a splash of the water they sat in for added flavor. The mushroom flavors are so pronounced when rehydrating them. I think the dried ones work best in pies.

41 Kath September 29, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I haven’t tried it but I’ve seen it! You know, nut butters are so precious that I hesitate to try to make things with them. But it does sound amazing, and we do have lots of bananas. Maybe for tomorrow’s breakfast!?

I am always striving to cross something off a list!

You must slice them thin and the extra ripe bananas are the ones that really dissolve. If it is just a yellow one (no brown spots) it will still be in there a bit.

42 Jenn (www. ) September 29, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I had oats in an almond butter jar yesterday, DEEEEEELICIOUS! Sorry about losing the Barney Butter jar! :(

By the way, I mash my banana first, then add it to my pot of oats and mash/mix it all together while it’s cooking. SO GOOD!

43 maria September 29, 2009 at 5:51 pm

I tried oats in a jar today for the first time, so it’s funny that you posted this today. They were great! :)

I’ll definitely eat them again when I find an emptyish jar floating around the house.

44 Betty September 29, 2009 at 11:08 pm

I’m glad to see the spider is still there!

There are certainly lots of details like that to take into consideration. That could be a nice level to convey up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where an important thing might be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round things like that, however I’m positive that your job is clearly recognized as a good game. Both boys and girls really feel the affect of just a moment’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.imitation swiss watches
