Late Bloomer

Lesson Learned: Do NOT click the "yes I would like to install Windows Updates" box before blogging. GAH. My computer has been slow as molasses slower than molasses for the past hour and I have done nothing but sit here and stare at the screen. Had i known it would take this long I would have gone to do something else (like turn on my laptop) but I kept thinking any minute it would get back to normal. What a waste of precious time 👿

I did get started on my day rather late. I stayed up working until 11:30 last night and slept until 8:15! I woke up at 6:30 and had to get one of my grandmother’s quilts because our bedroom was freezing with 4 open windows! It was fun once I was warm again though 🙂

When I woke up I wrote a post for the Mushroom Channel in bed (always do most important tasks first!) and then finally came down to make oats in a jar to warm myself up.

IMG_3988 (640x427)

I had planned on Barney Butter oats in a jar this morning, but Karen ate the rest of my jar while I was gone!!!! Not cool!!! Thankfully I had another jar that was ready –

VeggieGirl sent me this Hazelnut butter a while ago and I have loved every bite. It’s got a very unique taste, but it really grew on me.

I filled ‘er up with:

1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt

1 ripe banana

1 tbsp chia seeds

~1/4 cup Mix My Granola

IMG_3985 (427x640)

Divine!

Yummy! Like my pink pajama pants!?

IMG_3979 (640x427)

Somebody else was enjoying a nice cricket for breakfast – the horror!

IMG_3990 (640x427)

Our yard was so pretty this AM – basking in the fall crisp shadows

Is it really NOON!?!?!?!?!!? I’m going to work until 1PM, go workout and have lunch at 2 (since I ate breakfast at 9:30 that should work).

Hazelnut butter just sounds like a glorious thing! Your yard is so pretty! The one thing I really miss since moving to the southwest is grass and trees! Cacti just leave a little something to be desired.

I had to grab a blanket in the middle of the night last night, too! I love waking up to that crisp, cool air.

Have you seen Chocolate Covered Katie’s idea for Banana Butter yet? It’s revolutionary, like Angela’s GMs.

It will CHANGE YOUR WORLD! 🙂

Well it did for me anyway. Here’s the link if you want to check it out:

Ah, you’ve finally depleted the hazelnut butter. I have to admit that’s one I’ve been VERY intrigued about on your blog. I found an organic chocolate hazelnut that’s like nutella with less sugar and more nut that’s really good

oats in a jar is such a brilliant concept! i had a dark chocolate wonderful jar the other day and it was insanely delish. i’m happy that fall temperatures are here and i can indulge in warm oatmeal again.

i think anyone that has not experienced oats in a jar wouldn’t understand how precious those last scrapings are. in fact, they might think they are doing you a favour buy finishing it up!

I recently began reading your blog, and as always, what a great post! The yard pictures are gorgeous- I’m hoping I can brush up on my own photography skills and provide some nice New England foliage on mine, but we’ll see how that works out. Your recipes look delicious. Can’t wait to try the Oats in a Jar recipe! I am just returning to healthy eating after a long illness and it’s blogs like yours that are going to help me do it.

It’s so strange to think that you are just now pulling out the quilts. We’ve had ours on our bed for weeks. No heat on yet but definitely long PJ pants and quilts.

I slept in late this AM too. I felt like my head was in a fog so I used the time I normally get up to blog to sleep. It felt good.

I tried your oats recipe the other day (with the bananas in the pot) and they didn’t break down like you had said they would. do you slice them real thin? the oats picked up all the liquid but the bananas stayed whole. thanks!

Enjoyed your Mushroom Channel post. My favorite fresh ‘shrooms are Portobellas (is that 2nd “o” suppose to be an “a”… I can never remember 🙁 ). But I REALLY like to use dried mushrooms, rehydrated and adding a splash of the water they sat in for added flavor. The mushroom flavors are so pronounced when rehydrating them. I think the dried ones work best in pies.

    Maria,
I haven’t tried it but I’ve seen it! You know, nut butters are so precious that I hesitate to try to make things with them. But it does sound amazing, and we do have lots of bananas. Maybe for tomorrow’s breakfast!?

    Jenny,
    Thanks!

    Christin,
I am always striving to cross something off a list!

    anonymous,
You must slice them thin and the extra ripe bananas are the ones that really dissolve. If it is just a yellow one (no brown spots) it will still be in there a bit.

There are certainly lots of details like that to take into consideration. That could be a nice level to convey up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where an important thing might be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round things like that, however I’m positive that your job is clearly recognized as a good game.
