No, I didn’t have sardines for lunch.
I was a sardine during yoga between two mouth breathers (my worst nightmare!!). One was garlicky and the other alcoholy. Oh my.
I still managed to pack a good class into that hour + 15 regardless. Next time I might choose to be next to the wall!
Came home and wanted greens!
Los colores
I made a salad with romaine + spinach topped with carrots + bell pepper. It was dressed in olive oil and honey and topped with blue cheese, TJ’s rosemary cranberries and pecans ( <—buy that!) and HOT Lavender Crunch hummus! Hot hummus is pretty awesome. And so is the lavender crunch! I WILL make that recipe again!!
Plus a mango on the side!! I heart mangoes and don’t eat them enough!
Sparkles. On one of Gram’s linens!
I’m taking the afternoon OFF. Meaning – away from the computer!! I’m actually thinking about going to get my nails done for a treat. We’ve had such a busy week and I’m glad to not have any more slicing events in the next one (they require more planning than doing!). We’ll be slicing at the Cville half + marathon on April 9 – get excited for that one!
Tonight = majorly fun event!!!

Ahhhh! my friends will be participating in that marathon!!! I can’t wait to tell them that you will be there!
… first comment… ?
Have you ever posted anything on your grocery budget or spending in that area? I am always inspired by your food posts and pictures and, like many, struggle to eat the way I’d like to on the budget we have. I’d be curious if you have any strategies or posts about this topic.
Enjoy your day off!
One is in the works for Home Neat Home. I am just slow b/c of bakery duties!
Ha! I ALWAYS end up next to a stinky dude on the treadmills at my gym. Definitely stand by the wall next time!
Oh, gosh. I love mangoes, like, fiercely
Note to self: BUY MANGO! Love buying them when they’re 5 for $5 and then freezing a bunch for smoothies. SO very excited about stone fruits, berries and mango season coming.
omg I just gagged at the thought of that yoga class. GO GET YOUR NAILS DONE!! I never do bc I’m cheap, I mean frugal, but I have had a hard few wks and also have an event tonight and I ended up going yesterday and it was worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY. have fun tonight!
Yes ma’am!
mmm I have a mango in my fridge waiting to be eaten. This has inspired me! It’ll probably be gone before tomorrow now haha
I can’t stand mouth breathers especially with bad breath…GROSS! Have a great afternoon Kath and I hope you get some good “me” time in!
Have a great day off! Love the mango !!
Stinky people at the gym are the worst! I hate being on a machine behind someone who bathed in perfume. Ugh, gross!
So I had a mango with breakfast, and am about to go get my nails done with my mom! Ha! enjoy your afternoon!:]
AH I’VE BEEN TO YOGA CLASSES LIKE THAT! It’s painful, I’m sorry you had to endure that, lol.
YUM SALAD.
I hope you have a great afternoon off Kath! You earned it this week
Mango sounds soo good right about now.
Are those pecans with rosemary & cranberries? I couldn’t really tell from the picture!
I hope your afternoon off is completely fabulous and totally mouth-breather free
yes! From TJ’s – they are amazing!
LOVE mangos. I seriously buy them every week at the grocery store! Enjoy your afternoon off… you definitely deserve it!
I saw on Twitter that you were looking at cars. We have a FIT and it is wonderful. You would be amazed what you can get inside it. We also recently bought a used Nisan Murano, which I also love! I think the Rogue is cheaper, but still roomy too.
Enjoy an afternoon off! I was going to get my nails done, but then it started snowing and hasn’t stoped. I’ve since lost all motivation.
Sorry to butt in – but any opinions on the Sentra? My car is dying on me -fast- and a huge money pit. I may need to trade in…
You need to get away! Do the nails, read a book, take a walk, eat a sweet – for you!
I don’t know much about the Sentra. My boss has the Rogue and LOVES it. We just got the Murano and really like it so far. I would think the Sentra and FIT are very comparable. The FIT second row seats fold down and the cieling is super high, which is what makes it feel so big.
Sentras are GREAT! I’ve had two Nissan cars, loved them both, and they are SO reliable. A Sentra was my first, then we moved up to an Altima, but honestly, I loved that Sentra.
Wow – thanks – you guys are All-Stars for even answering my question! Thanks very much. Yeah, I’m on a very strict budget. I’d get rid of the money-pit altogether I think if it wasn’t mandatory for my job…and my sanity to just get away sometimes I guess. Was considering Mazda but too expensive. It’s the trade-in that kills me – my car is worth crap.
Cool! We’re just toying with the idea, since we need to haul bread!
We have a Honda CR-V….it’s is amazing. Decent gas mileage for a small SUV, and for us a necessary evil for Winter Commutes in the snow.
My sister has a Fit. They’re awesome! Definitely good for lots of storage.
Oh bless your soul for surviving that class….two of my biggest pet peeves are chewing and heavy breathing…especially when you have RANK breath. Pop a mint or something! Or isolate yourself from society til you brush your teeth, haha!
Excuse my rant
I definitely feel you on the breathers.
Lunch looks refreshing, a good thing to come home to
Enjoy your sunny day!
Ugh, that yoga class sounds like my worst nightmare! Dont they realize?!
Eww I can’t imagine trying to relax during yoga with that going on around you.
Enjoy the afternoon OFF! I need an unplug day big time, myself!
Omg Saturday morning yoga classes are THE WORST for stinky people. Basically those who went out and imbibed heavily either on booze or smelly food Friday night then show up to a Sat morning class and they are detoxing out all those smells. And I am soooo sensitive to smells, that I can hardly stand it sometimes. I always figure that dealing with that is my yoga and my lesson for the day that the universe wanted to give me. Even if I want to run for the hills. lol.
Oh gross! I am SO sensitive about the smell of my breath, and other people’s breath.
My husband thinks I’m weird that I’m more disgusted by smelly burps than smelly farts. hahahaha
LOL @ garlicky and alcoholy breath. OMG
Gross!
Your salad looks delish. Enjoy your afternoon off!!
Ugh, people unaware of their bad breath is the worst!
On another note, your lunch looks amazing! I can totally relate about the mangos, I love them but never eat them! It’s probably because I despise cutting/peeling them…it’s such a pain! Haha.
Have a great day Kath!
Enjoy your time away from the computer! I should do the same..especailly with the pampering and getting nails done. Mine are in desperate need of some attention!
I think you definitely deserve the afternoon off! I’m thinking of doing the same! Enjoy!
Have a lovely afternoon Kath!
Sorry about the mouth breathers but that had me laughing!
I’m so glad magoes are in season again! Yippee!
You should take the night off, you guys have been working so hard promoting the bakery
Have fun tonight!
PS. Yuck to the garlicky-mouth breather! A few weeks ago,I attended a yoga class where the guy next to me kept farting! Aghhhhhh!
So, do you have one of those gadgets that adds carbonation to your water for you? Or is there a particular sparkling water that you drink?
We have a co2 tank for the beers that we pump into kegged water!
Hi Kathy,
I am a long time reader and will be running the Charlotesville half marathon. Hope to see you there!
Also, so glad that you have a chalotesville page, it will make my trip easier;)
Awesome! Can’t wait to meet you!
Have a good afternoon off! I need to take time away from the internet and focus on homework, ugh!
hot hummus is lovely. hope you enjoy your aftenoon off!
eeeeeew bad breath around ya is THE worst! But your lunch looks fantastic- have a good day away from the comp
Hope you get to have your nails done!! Going to the spa always makes me feel muuuuuch better!
So happy to see you were cleared out at the 10 mile event, very good word of mouth publicity for the bakery and you guys.
I noticed your table took up a lot of room in your car, I have seen the same ones , that fold in half and in some cars will fit behind the front seats, standing on their side, worth a try if you are pushed for room.
Loved the big cane basket for display, it would look awesome with a check or spotted fabric liner in your signature bakery colour ,just a large square of fabric, that can be easily washed and replaced.
The bears looked great, they would be memorable…good marketing tool, but I think your idea of the pump dispenser is the best solution ,so clever.
I’ve seen the 4′ plastic tables (from Costco) that fold in half – very handy for packing. I don’t know much about the FIT, but some sort of small SUV will give you much more hauling room.
We considered getting one of those but were afraid it would not be sturdy enough
Ugh, that does not sound like a good yoga class. Sorry it was so…unpleasant!
Alcohol breath!? I give credit to whoever can stand still in a yoga position while tipsy…sounds like a fun college game : p but I agree that’s pretty nasty!! get those nails done and take a breather – a fresh one : )
Oh man. I was stuck in front of a LOUD mouth breather at yoga yesterday. So distracting!!
Alcohol breath in the morning? Yikes! That’s a little sketchy.
Enjoy your afternoon off!
Your description of being a “sardine” is the reason I don’t enjoy group fitness classes! I’m afraid of being THAT person! Haha!
Love the colorful lunch!
Enjoy your afternoon off! What colors are you getting your nails done with?
I love mango too! Cutting them right takes some effort, but is so worth it.
I love mangoes and feel the same way! I think it’s because they require a lot of knife skills to eat, but it is so worth it in the end!
Thanks for the tip on the pecans. I have seen them at my TJ’s but have been hesitant to buy them. New products are always kind of iffy (especially when your cart is already full). They seem like the perfect accent to a chicken, bleu cheese salad.
Gorgeous salad, I need to try TJ’s rosemary cranberries and pecans. Agreed on mangoes, I’ve been adding them to smoothies this week – yum!
ran the Great Race of Agoura (CA) this morning- did the Deena Kaster 5K. Cold! 42 degrees at the start! AND there were GREAT HARVEST BREAD SLICES and jam at the post-race tent area! Yum.
Gosh darn mouth breathers. I hope I don’t have bad breath when I’m around people. That’s one of my biggest fears!!
That mango made my mouth water! I’m happy to see bakery promos are going well for you all!
Oh no! 2 stinkers? That sounds the worst. Especially in yoga when you can’t really hold your breath.
So glad that the event was such a big hit!
That yoga class with the breathers, sounds awful! Yuck. Good job for pushing through the smell.
Again, another yummy looking salad. I love the TJ’s rosemary pecan cranberry mix. So good!! And those mangoes look glorious! I really like the “champagne mangoes”. Very smooth texture.
Have you ever stopped through Culpeper? I went there today and ate at a really tasty restaurant called “It’s about Thyme”. I recommend it to anyone who might be in that part of VA.
Enjoy the day off tomorrow.
I’ve driven through but haven’t stopped yet!
Haha, I’m sorry about the mouth breathers. That’s too funny, thought! I love your colorful salad.
Definitely showcases the spring season!
That salad is definitely making me yearn for spring.
Hope you have a fun fun evening!
Have a fun relaxing afternoon. Lazy Saturday afternoons are the best
Ohmygosh, who drinks before a yoga class?!?
We just had fresh mango margaritas, in our new vita-mix! You were right Kath it is amazing, I made yummy whole food pasta in 6 minutes! I was wondering if you prep all your salad stuff when you go shopping, to make salad building more easy? Wash, chop, and store? Thanks!
I don’t do that, but if I worked a 9-5 job I would (and did)
I had a mango last week and it was so insanely sweet and juicy, I had a moment of silence.
Oh I LOVE TJ’s rosemary cranberries and pecans! Totally addicted!
Your Salad is SO vibrant! I love it!
xoxox
Kathleen
I made your lavender hummus…amazing!! Such a fun change from my traditional recipe. I had it on my salad last night and it MADE the salad! Thanks for the recipe.
When you said HOT hummus, did you mean that you had heated it up?? Or spiced it up?
Oh yay!!!
Hot meant heated up in the microwave
