Lavender Hummus

Boy oh boy was Body Pump HARD today!! REALLY hard. And I can thank testosterone for that! I went to Chris’s class – my first male instructor. I thought I was so cool with my extra weight, but he really challenged us in the sequences and made me shake from head to toe. I couldn’t even finish some of the sets!!

I got my bike on too, which was nice. We have a really warm day here!

Home for lunch…

LunchinBlog

But I was stuck. You see, last night there was a huge camel cricket in the basement. While I very much appreciate it when Matt comes to my rescue, he is the worlds slowest bug killer. He moves in slow motion, and the cricket escaped. Under the washer. This afternoon when I went down to get some chickpeas for a hummus I was dreaming up, he was BACK! Just waiting for me. He is also HUGE!

I was stuck upstairs. Can’t do laundry. Can’t get sparkling water. Can’t get chickpeas. What to do for lunch!?

IMG_4739Blog

I puttered around for a few minutes and luckily Matt returned home and could bring up the peas.

Lavender Hummus!

I’ve been dreaming this up ever since the duck fries at Victorias! Crazy, I know. Lavender and rosemary are a match made in heaven in this lavender hummus recipe.

Lavender Crunch Hummus >>

I’m not the biggest hummus girl. Similar to why I don’t love a lot of bottle salad dressings or canned soups – store-bought hummus often has this funk taste to it. And sometimes the garlic overload is unbearable!

This lavender hummus, however, tastes as fresh as a garden! Beans provide the backbone of nutrition, lavender brings unique flavor, and pecans provide crunch!

While we were gone I received this email from Karen:

2 packages at your house.  Guess who came to visit?  The Tig!  He visited, let me pet him, did rolly-polly, then left.

Apparently she thinks his name is Tigger instead of Tiger. And she has shortened it to ‘The Tig’. Hilarious. And the new name we’re calling him. He came by for a visit!

I just finished conference call #2 out of 3 for the day. Squeezing in blog stuff inbetween 🙂

Phew, I hate those little buggers, too. We had them at my parents house growing up. Thankfully I haven’t seen any at my house these days. My worst offender is often the earwig. My pup, Lilly, will find one and act all weird. She’ll dance around it, nose it, etc – so I am usually alerted to its presence. Ick. I’m always happy to pass the bug smooshing on to Tristan. Or Lilly, in a pinch. 😉

I am terrified of bugs. Especially big ones that can hop or fly. Or that have lots of legs. No thanks. I will dispose of them if I am the only one home, but usually Jason takes care of them.

Last time you posted about a camel cricket I looked up what they are — so incredible icky. Thankfully they aren’t in MN!

FYI. Saw your message about camel crickets not being in MN. We live in a town in northern MN and our basement has been infested with them for the last 6 years! They are impossible to get rid of. We have an exterminator come every year and they treat the inside and outside of our house but we still get over 100 of them in our house every season!! They are absolutely disgusting!!

Lavender in hummus….wow, that is creative! I bet with the rosemary it smelled and tasted heavenly! Yum!

Bugs. I lived in NC and SC for awhile and also have a house in the Caribbean and am pretty much used to cockroaches the size of golf balls and all kinds of creepy critters. Bugs don’t really freak me out as much as reptiles…snakes or lizards (in the house!) FREAK me out.

    Ok I will stop 🙂

As for the cricket-my boyfriend would have immediately smashed it while I cried on, haha 🙂 I try to “scoop” up bugs with whatever I can find and then put them back outside. I guess I’m a little sensitive to that stuff, eh? 😉

I’ve never heard of a camel cricket before, but they sound ugly! I have the same issue with bugs in our storage room. There are huge centipedes in there, so I’m always scared to go in!

    That hummus sounds great!

Seriously, my husband is the slowest bug killer too! He hovers over it I guess contemplating the kill, and then it escapes. He especially likes do to this with spiders. At night. So then I’m left to wonder where that spider went while trying to sleep. Not a good combo.

I used to be a huge bug-phobe…especially spiders! Until moving to Honduras that is….the other night my husband and I were in bed watching a movie and he said “I need you to close your eyes for a minute…” Um WHY!?!? Long story short….a tarantula had walked in under our front door and gone to hide where we keep our shoes. (Obviously I couldn’t sleep knowing that was in the house) So hubs got the Raid…gave it a squirt…and the dang thing charged straight at him! Luckily his reflexes have seriously improved since being here!!

We live in a ground-level condo in northern VA and are plagued by cave crickets during the spring, summer, and fall. The only way I have found to keep them under control is to lay out “traps” of duct tape where I see them the most often just before we go to bed. I am resigned to the fact that they will never go away – they come in a steady stream from the outdoors. I bet that if you put a strip of duct tape in front of your washer tonight, you will have a trapped cricket the morning that can go right in the trash, tape and all. GOOD LUCK!

So how did the hummus turn out? You never really gave it a “review” after the recipe. I’m currently mildly obsessed with lavender and rosemary. Would you adjust any of the ingredients if you made it again?

Oh, it was really good!!! Not very smooth – definitely chunky style – but the flavor was great!

My mom does the same thing. She calls Harris Teeter “Harris Teeters” and Kroger “Krogers” and Meijer “Meijers”… love how mom’s do that!

Oh, and when I see a bug (aheeeeeem… especially spiders…) I become PARALYZED in the house and can.not.MOVE! It’s horrible and completely irrational. But I can’t help it!
