Not all those who wander are lost

–J.R.R. Tolkein

You know what wandered today?

My hand! Into the Cville Cluster bag!!

IMG_4200Blog

I “bought” myself a refill – I was out at home!

To those of you who received your mixes, I think the heat + transport melted the ink off a bit, and I’ve had several requests for the nutritional info + cooking directions – here they are!

Pancake Oatmeal   Cville-Cluster

I had a great time with these two turkeys at work today. Matt was off relaxing!

20 minutes of sweaty biking later…

We made cucumber and tomato salads with blue cheese and peanuts topped with crispy seared salmon

IMG_4212Blog

High heat + lots of salt + lots of oil = salmon crisp. This was from the Copper River salmon marketing association who sent a GIANT piece of fish a few weeks ago. We couldn’t eat it all – even with Karen’s help and leftovers – so I sliced it into pieces, individually wrapped them in plastic wrap and froze them. Perfect for a quick dinner (just remember to thaw ahead!)

Tomato from our garden!

IMG_4211Blog

Matt poured a special barleywine from Bluegrass Brewing Company but unfortunately something was wrong with it. He said maybe a foreign yeast got inside. I barely had a sip – gross floating yeast!

I’m off to watch the best show ever!!!

[Well, besides Gossip Girl, Full House, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude and a few more…]

mmm the salmon salad combo looks delish!

Is the yeast what is causing the huge foam head or is it just because it’s the first tap??

OMG- creeeeepyyyy!! I just sat down at my desk to catch up on blogs and eat dinner, started reading this post and then looked down at my desk to see the same bowl filled with the same food in your picture- salad with salmon in that Anthropologie bowl. Except that I have peppers and yam chips and no tomatoes :p

I have a question about the nutritional info for the granola. Isn’t 2 ounces only 1/4 a cup? Just curious since the label states 2 ounces is 1/2 cup. Can you please clarify this for me. Thanks so much.

Reply

34 KathEats July 22, 2011 at 7:38 am

Lynn, Weight and volume are totally different. 1/4 a cup = 2 liquid ounces, but not necessarily weight ounces. Some foods come out to the same, but an airy granola isn’t one of them. I weighed the granola on my food scale and 2 ounces did come out to about half a cup.

the Tomato from the garden…oh perfect! I love tomatoes! and nothing like growing your own.

And the salmon + salad looks great!

So does all that granola.

Now go have fun watching your fave show!

OMG… Kath, please tell me you’ve heard about the channel Teen Nick bringing back all the 90’s Nickelodeon shows?! Starting on like… the 25th of this month, I want to say! At midnight every night they’re going to show old school Nick shows. I’m going to be tired at work EVERY DAY due to staying up and watching…. and it’s going to be totally worth it to see Donkey Lips and Ug on Salute Your Shorts again.

That’s just tantalising, because while the ingredients for the Cluster look simple enough, I know that without an actual recipe I could never recreate them perfectly!

It’s none of my business, but I saw on the labels that you and Matt don’t have the same last name. How come?

Reply

43 KathEats July 22, 2011 at 7:40 am

I didn’t change my name when I got married. I think the practice is a bit out of date and I think women should do what feels most natural – not what society might expect. There are lots of comments on this in this post!

Oh my gosh – your comment about ‘Hey Dude’ cracked me up. I remember that show! I’m a bit too old for that to have been one of the shows I watched back in the day (I’m 32), but my younger brother and kids that I babysat LOVED it. What was the cute guy named? Ted? Too funny! :)
