Super Bowl Of Good Food

February 7, 2010

Blog was down, but I was just awoken from sleep by my crazy brother in law yelling from New Orleans, so I guess the Saints won! Here’s the delayed post..

Best commercial yet: GOOGLE :) I heart Google.

I’m blogging LIVE from the Super Bowl!! Not wanting to miss the party, I brought my computer so I could chat, type and watch in the final quarter instead of having to do it when I get home. I gotta get up at 5AM regardless!!

We had a busy afternoon of yard work

(Matt painting the mailbox – he’s awesome and worked all day on the house!)

IMG_5416 (640x427)

And me grocery shopping

(SCORE on the 3 giant cans of pumpkin I found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

IMG_5417 (427x640)

I also found the new dessert Oikos and decided to try out the caramel :)

IMG_5418 (640x427)

I had just a little bit of time to whip up some of Kelsey’s Pimento Cheese!

These Organic Valley cheeses arrived on my doorstep this past week and I knew they would be perrrrrrrfect for pimento cheese for the Super Bowl! I had a taste of each while I prepped and they were delish. I love sharp white cheddar!

IMG_5421 (640x427)

I followed the recipe exactly except I use greek yogurt instead of sour cream! So easy and always in my fridge :)

Grating by hand is hard! But I didn’t want to dirty up the Cuisinart.

IMG_5422 (640x427)

One of my very favorite foods!

IMG_5423 (640x427)

IMG_5441 (640x427)

We threw on our shoes slippers and made our way to Kate + Nate’s for the big party. Both Matt and I LIVE in our Target slippers!!

IMG_5505 (640x427) (2)

This is the biggest party our friends group has ever thrown! EVERYONE was here!

Matt and Gilbert got right to scruffing

IMG_5435 (427x640)

IMG_5427 (640x427)

And I got right to eating!

IMG_5432 (640x427)

I brought over these Old London Bagel Chips they company sent for me to review. Yummy!

IMG_5429 (640x427)

I sipped on two POM + soda mocktails with lime and cherries throughout the night. Having to be up for work tomorrow I didn’t want to drink any alcohol.

IMG_5439 (640x427)

IMG_5437 (640x427)

I nibbled on chips and dip while we waited for everyone to arrive with their pot-luck contributions. I was quite hungry from my run by 5:30!

IMG_5431 (640x427)

IMG_5446 (640x427)

We had lots of variety representin’ tonight!

Beautiful veggies

IMG_5447 (640x427)

Scoop dips

IMG_5452 (640x427)

Kale chips made me ME!

IMG_5461 (640x427)

IMG_5462 (640x427)

Buffalo Chicken dip [I don’t have any of these recipes – sorry!]

IMG_5455 (640x427)

And WANGS made their appearance

IMG_5467 (640x427)

Costco pizzas – which are really good!

IMG_5470 (640x427)

Kate’s famous salads

IMG_5477 (640x427)

IMG_5456 (640x427)

Diana and I clicked away!

IMG_5469 (640x427) IMG_5468 (640x427)

I wasn’t that hungry after nibbling through the dips, but I filled my plate with veggies, a slice of pizza and …more dips!

IMG_5473 (640x427)

IMG_5483 (640x427)

There were many doggies present tonight too – it was quite the full house! Lots of barking from both the dogs and the men!

IMG_5486 (640x427) IMG_5487 (640x427) (2)

For dessert, Diana brought some yummy football chocolate cupcakes

IMG_5488 (640x427)

And Conor brought Zeppole (homemade donuts!) which means “cloud” in Italian

IMG_5443 (427x640)

IMG_5442 (640x427)

Emily and I split a cupcake

IMG_5490 (640x427) (2)

Which I munched with a cloud

IMG_5494 (640x427)

I ended the night with two of Kelsey‘s late-arrival goat cheese balls

IMG_5500 (427x640)

Snacked on the rest of my pimento cheese as we packed it all up to go! I’ve got a fun salad to take for lunch tomorrow :)

IMG_5502 (427x640)

I think I’m headed home now to get in bed. Our friends are starting to leave and this girl needs her beauty rest! Hope y’all had a great Super Bowl evening!

PS. You’re going to want to be here early tomorrow morning for a little coupon special <3

It was good to see you guys!!

4 Kath February 8, 2010 at 6:16 am

Ditto!! + the Pennus even though she was sad and hidden.

5 Jayce February 7, 2010 at 10:53 pm

I just had Zeppole last night for the first time at a local Italian place. They were covered in powdered sugar and so delish! So funny how you see/notice things once you learn about them. :)

6 Emily February 7, 2010 at 10:54 pm

The best part about the super bowl is the snacks!

7 sassy molassy February 7, 2010 at 10:57 pm

lots of yummy super bowl food! Believe it or not, Organic Valley has one of their dairy farms just a few miles from my house in Eugene, OR. When I’m out on my road bike I pass the farm every now and then and am reminded how important it is to eat local, organic foods that are good for the bod.

8 Kath February 8, 2010 at 6:16 am

aww that makes me really happy :)

9 Diana February 7, 2010 at 10:57 pm

Glad the blog is up again. Fun recap! I love the pictures of us taking pictures of each other…lol. Gotta work on my post now. :) G’night!

10 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) February 7, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Ahhhhh I NEED pumpkin (for the food I’m making for my culinary cultures class!!). It was $3 at WFs—Whaat!? So I need to find me some Libby’s at a regular store.

Love your post title!

I saw the caramel oikos but it was $4.99 for 4 little cans. My wallet was leaking just thinking about it! I need to try it though!

11 Sam (Merit to the Carrot) February 7, 2010 at 11:04 pm

I live in my target slippers, too! My mom and I were at Costco yesterday and almost picked up that exact pizza. It looks very tasty! Looks like you had yourself a merry little Super Bowl!

12 candice February 7, 2010 at 11:08 pm

Wow, so much wonderful food! I love your socks. And clouds. ;] I STILL need to try kale chips!

13 Cynthia (It All Changes) February 7, 2010 at 11:10 pm

One thing I miss about Superbowl parties is the food. You look like you had a good spread and I’m sure many leftovers will be present in your salad tomorrow :-)

14 Amanda @ The Hungry Wanderers February 7, 2010 at 11:14 pm

Loved all the veggies tonight! Healthiest and tastiest superbowl party ever :-)

For anyone interested in the Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe, you can find a lot of similar recipes by googling just that. I generally cook a pound of chicken and then shred it (with forks). Mix it with two packages of cream cheese, 3/4 cup hot sauce (Franks!), 1 cup Ranch dressing, and a handful of shredded cheddar. Put in a baking dish, cover with more cheese, and bake at 350 or so until melty. Using low or non-fat items keep it still tasty if you so choose :-) Before baking, definitely taste so you can adjust to be cooler or hotter! And enjoy…

15 Sam @ Happy Shoes February 7, 2010 at 11:14 pm

Agreed, the Google ad was my favorite, too!

16 Bronwyn February 7, 2010 at 11:14 pm

HHMMMM. Looks like one tasty superbowl night.

17 Lisa @bakebikeblog February 7, 2010 at 11:14 pm

oh wow that all looks so good!!!!!

18 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope February 7, 2010 at 11:25 pm

What a fun party Kath! And I can’t wait to hear your review on the new Oikos flavor. I haven’t seen it in stores yet, but it sounds so good!

19 Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) February 7, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Fun eats — everything looks great! 😀 I loved that Google commercial too, but also the Audi “Green Police” one. I never would have guessed it was a car commercial but wish there really was a police force to enforce environmentalism! 😉

20 Annie @ stronghealthyfit February 7, 2010 at 11:30 pm

You’re smart and a good example of self control- I have to get up early for school tomorrow but sitll had a couple of beers at my superbowl party that I went to :-( BUT I am being more careful of how much I drink throughout the whole week, bc I know alcohol + empty calories! I’m trying to just drink tea some nights.

21 Jenn ( February 7, 2010 at 11:30 pm

Nice spread! We call Zeppole fried dough. :) Love it with powdered sugar! Cute cupcakes, too.

Can you tell I’m hormonal? I gravitated to the desserts immediately LOL.

22 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] February 7, 2010 at 11:31 pm

That dog is so cute!!! Aw, darn…I always miss the specials on KERF because I’m behind ya in time by 3 hrs. I don’t think I want to set my alarm for the crack of dawn ; )

23 Hannah February 7, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I tried that Oikos Caramel just the other week! The caramel is really good, almost (but not quite) as yummy as a real dulce de leche, although there is a lot of it so it ends up rather sweet! Can’t wait to hear what you thought of it :)

And as an Australian, I don’t really care either way about the Super Bowl, but I hope y’all were happy with the result! :)

24 lynn (The Actors Diet) February 7, 2010 at 11:57 pm

love all the dogs there – the super bowl party i was at was full of babies so the doggies had to stay home!

25 Julie @SavvyEats February 7, 2010 at 11:58 pm

I love that you and Matt were also wearing matching socks with your slippers.

You guys had quite the spread at the party!

26 Ally (Exercise and Pies) February 8, 2010 at 12:07 am

the Google commercial was so cute because i’ve googled the one they showed about long distance relationships for when me and my boy were in different states for a few months lol

I love the spread… i’m wishing i took pics of all our food but there was A LOT. Somehow I didn’t go into a food coma and filled up on veggies and protein yay me!

27 Ali @ The Whole Life Nutrition Kitchen February 8, 2010 at 12:28 am

Sounds like a fabulous super bowl party! We absolutely adore kale chips here. Aren’t they fun? Sometimes I toss them in a little tahini, nutritional yeast, lemon, olive oil, and salt which creates an absolutely addicting kale chip!

-Ali :)

28 Kate February 8, 2010 at 12:45 am

I’m insanely jealous of the carmel Okios! Looks like the party was fun. You certainly had better food than what was at the party I was attending!

29 Ameena February 8, 2010 at 12:55 am

I had no idea that Oikos has a Caramel flavor now! Good to know. :)

What great food you had today! I hope you have a good Sunday night!

30 floria February 8, 2010 at 1:18 am

wow ,it is looks very delicious
so wonderful

31 Freya @ February 8, 2010 at 2:35 am

Awesome food, it all looks delicious – especially those cupcakes :) Good call on the kale chips too, I’ve made them from your recipe and they’re delicious!
And I love the idea of caramel greek yogurt…I so wish they did that over here! Caramel is one of my favourite flavahs :)
Glad you had a great night :)

32 christie @ honoring health February 8, 2010 at 6:27 am

What a great party! Everything looks awesome!

33 Jessie February 8, 2010 at 8:55 am

I got caramel Oikos yesterday too. I can’t wait to try it. I had the hardest time deciding between caramel in chocolate. I ultimately decided on caramel because I want to see if I can somewhat replicate the flavor of a Somoas Girl Scout cookie in the yogurt.

34 Jessica @ The Process of Healing February 8, 2010 at 9:16 am

I’ve made her pimento cheese before and it’s SO good! I love some pimento cheese :) And white chedder is the best.

35 Amanda @ Cakes and Ale February 8, 2010 at 9:22 am

Homemade pimento cheese is the best. I love just a plain old pimento cheese sandwich (like they do at the Masters at Augusta!)

36 Emily February 8, 2010 at 9:31 am

I just tried the Chocolate Oikos last week, it was at Food Lion of all places…creamy tangy chocolatey and yum!

37 Alexis @ Mission: Ambition February 8, 2010 at 9:36 am

Great spread! Lots of yummy stuff :)

I completely agree – the Google ad was awesome.

38 TC February 8, 2010 at 10:05 am

Agreed–the Google ad was the best! Looks like a fun night with food and friends!

39 Lindsay February 8, 2010 at 10:28 am

Love the one picture of the dog – Gilbert, I think? He is SUPER cute and its a great photo. Hard to get good photos of dogs, I think.

40 Jenna February 8, 2010 at 10:30 am

Great night!!

41 Lauren @ Eater not a runner February 8, 2010 at 10:40 am

I loved the google commercial, SO CUTE!

42 Chelsea February 8, 2010 at 1:10 pm

I agree about the Google Ad being the best although I don’t know why Google needs to advertise!

43 Ash @ Good Taste. Healthy Me February 8, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Isn’t it crazy how much time your house takes up?! We are constantly doing work on ours, whether that’s cleaning or painting or what-not.

44 Kristilyn (My 29th Year) February 8, 2010 at 4:21 pm

All that food looks amazing! I just don’t know how I could practice moderation with that spread – how do you do it?
