I got a lot of stuff done this afternoon – somehow – preparing for tomorrow’s first day of school
I finally tackled some of my Micro assignments.
AND got an email from my Foodservice professor the night before the first day telling us where we can log in to see the syllabus, the course schedule, that our first exam is THIS THURSDAY (it’s a cumulative thing from the first food science course) and our first assignment is due Friday. Ay yi yi!
I spent some time organizing the academic area of our laundry room
I made a little caddy of supplies to bring out when I need to make flashcards and color things (for Micro). It has paper clips, rubberbands, white out, clips, etc.
And I have an organizer leftover from my working office days where I have folders for each class and a few more supplies.
The Lone Can Of Beans
I’ve had a can of refried beans sitting in our pantry for the longest time, so I did a quick Google search on Sunday to find recipe ideas for it while making the meal plan. I came across this recipe and thought that if I started eating thick soups maybe fall would come sooner!
We made a few changes:
- Obviously the onion was left out
- We used corn on the cob (grilled) from the CSA instead of frozen
- We used fresh roma tomatoes instead of canned
- We only used 1 cup of veggie broth
But all-in-all, the soup was great! Topped with Chobani, Franks Red Hot sauce, and cilantro –
Along with the perfect soup side dish:

BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR FIRST DAY TOMORROW!!!
Good luck with your first day back at school! I love starting back up with school, mainly for all the fun new school supplies.
Soup looks great!
Good luck tomorrow! I love how organized your school supplies are. That is exactly what I have to spend this weekend doing.
I’m sort of doing what you did as far as making a career switch. I’m in HR now and am applying to nursing school so I’ll be doing all the chem, microbiology, A&P, etc. this year to get ready. You’re definitely inspiring me to get everything organized before the school year begins.
Kath, you are so organized… AND you have cute supplies, too. Good luck with class tomorrow!
You look so organized! I love organizing and I need to find more time… Good luck tomorrow
I just started my full class schedule today (had one class that started last week). After being out of school for only a year I guess I kinda forgot how hectic student life can be! I think I’m really gonna miss only doing the 9-5 thing with no homework! Hopefully I’ll get back in the swing of things quickly! It may help if I get a little more organized (Kath style)!
Good luck with your first day of classes tomorrow!
PS: I love your organizer with the wedding pix…so cute!

A great study aid and favorite of med students that really simplifies things for MICRO is “microbiology made ridiculously simple.”
Good luck!
Love the title of this post – and the soup you whipped up looks pretty good too.
You are so organized! The “school corner” looks great!
I love how your school supplies are so organized and how you personalized the organizer with your wedding photos!

Good luck on your first day of school!
You’ll do great with school! You seem to be one of those people who are “good” at school–organizing multiples classes with due dates, exams, etc., while still taking care of yourself. I, on the other hand, started school today with both hands thrown in the air just waiting to see what’s in store for me! My goal is to learn a little something from you this year as far as staying on top of things goes!
Lots of good wishes for tomorrow!
Hey Kath! Don’t worry about micro, I took that class last year and it went fine. Just make sure to take very detailed notes, especially on your colored pencil observations. It is a lot of memorization though. Good luck and as always great blog!
Ahhh school supplies, gotta love em’!
Have a fantastic first day back!

I wish I were closer so I could run with you!!!
Kath, I’m sorry I haven’t signed up for the race yet, but some things happened. I still plan on doing it, I am just going to be signing up a little later than planned!
Wow! Nerd alert! Haha…I am the same way! Happy Tuesday!
Wow, look at you Mrs. Organization! Very impressive. These are the kinds of things I dream of having but don’t put in the necessary work to achieve! Good luck with school, you are one busy lady.
And that soup looks great! I am sure I have said this before but I LOVE beans!
Impressively organised, Kath! Happy return to school. A
med student,
That might be what our text book is. I think it’s actually some kind of Cliff Notes.
Kate(the teenager),
No prob! Hope you can still run
Kath
You look so darn organized!!
Good luck with your first day.
Kath, you are too funny with the organization! It’s like I am looking in my daughters room!
She’s a junior in high school, and has been ready for school for at least a month, and had 15 outfits laid out already!
I’ll have to show her your cute baskets, she’ll be jealous!
Good luck!
