Did anyone see the Simpsons Tree House of Horror on Sunday!?
I loved the game one.
I was certainly a ravenous rhino AND a hungry hippo this morning!!
Pumpkin oats a plenty!
We had a bad storm last night. You know, THE storm that pulls every leaf off the trees. Where’d they all go!?
Oh, there they are ; )
Of course I’m not complaining because they make a lovely backdrop for photography! More so on the ground than in the trees!
Today’s Mix
For TWO
- 1/2 cup oat bran (leftover from bread making! It’s been a while since I’ve had this)
- 1/2 cup oats (for texture)
- Lots of water (I think I added 3/4 a cup?)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 whole ripe banana
- 2 tbsp flax (stirred in halfway through)
- 1 tbsp raisins
- Pinch salt, ground cloves, cinnamon
- 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- Toppings: coconut, Ancient Grains granola, Maranatha Almond Butter (an old favorite that has returned via a coupon I have been hoarding for a year!!!!!!!!!!)
Our house coffee has turned into Whole Foods’ Pacific Rim.
Many of you have commented on this set of bowls I acquired a while back from my mom’s neighbor’s daughter, who was a neighborhood playfriend of mine.
I usually report that they are one-of-a-kind and not available…HOWEVER!!
Beth emailed me to let me know she has an ETSY store and has been continuing creating ceramic pieces! This purple bowl in particular looks very similar to mine!
And the Peacock cups are on my Christmas list ![]()
This rhino needs to get her horn to work!

All the leaves are so so cozy =]
Thankfully all the leaves are off the trees here too. Now I can finally finishing raking for the season and not have to worry about any more leaves falling.
Loving those beautiful fall colors in your photographs.
Thank you for the info on the etsy store. Great Christmas presents for self or others.
And I love the photos of your oats with the fallen leaves.
That oatmeal looks great, Kath!
I love almond butter…but it’s so expensive… hopefully I will find it on sale soon. I need my fix!
Hey Alicia,
I had the same sentiments but you can make your own and it’s much cheaper!! You just need your favorite kind of almonds (mine are usually roasted/toasted):
1 cup roasted almonds
¼ teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon unrefined vegetable oil OR olive oil
Blend the almonds and the salt in a food processor/blender until finely ground. Add oil until it reaches your desired consistency. You can experiment with different almonds, toasting them in the oven etc, etc. So good! And cheap.
Make your own almond butter, it’s really easy but just takes some patience! I roast almonds on a cookie sheet at 350 for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Put them in a food processor and whir, whir, whir, scraping down the sides every so often. Belive it or not, you WILL have almond butter in the end.
I love the leaves. I’m such a Fall girl.
I love all the leaves! We’re still waiting for ours to fall here in Albuquerque, they’re turning that dingy mustard yellow color now, so I think next week we should be able to pull out the rake
I agree!! The leaves in the background make for beautiful photos!
I’ve been obesessing over pumpkin oats lately! Those pics are exactly what the trees looked like in northern va… I was awoken at midnight last night to tornado-like sounds. Awful! I need a good coffee to brew at home. I’ve been buying out too much lately– suggestions?
we had THAT storm while we were in hawaii last week…we left and there were leaves and came back to nothing!
Love the bowls! I tried Maranatha AB a while ago and thought it did not even compare to Trader Joe’s raw almond butter – and TJ’s is half the price
The leaves are pretty much all off the trees here too… kind of sad because now my neighbourhood doesn’t look nearly as bright and colourful as before!! Love your photos!
We had THAT storm here in Charlotte last night, as well. We had a worried pup, with all the commotion; and I was concerned our gazebo was going to fly away!
~
I love Fall storms — I sleep so well when we have storms!
Those bowls are super cute — although I am trying to get rid of stuff, not buy more
I do love your beautiful bowls! I only have a few bowls, but seeing your pictures always makes me want new ones – and teeny tiny spoons.
No idea about the rhino but… the oats today look FANTABULOUS!
I experienced a leaf storm last night when I ran – literally leaves falling from above like rain and I just… ran through them. Kind of fun!
Storms do have a pretty after effect, at least in terms of leaves on the ground!
Etsy is one of the best things to hit the internet. These bowls are gorgeous and I’ll definitely have to add them to my Etsy wish list!
One of the most depressing parts of the year sets in for me when I realize that it will be 6 months before leaves come back! 1/2 of the time trees don’t have leaves?! How upsetting!
Luckily this realization is quickly forgotten because the holidays come up!
Yum @ those oats… I was a destructively ravenous last night…
I seriously Love ETSY. I’m going to go check out your friend’s store right now.
Thanks so much for finding out about the bowls! Christmas list, here I come
Today is my daughters 1st birthday and I made her pumpkin oatmeal pancakes with a pink candle in them. She LOVED them and it made me think of you. Have a great day!
Those bowls are very cool!
I am definitely checking out her Etsy store!
looks like…winter!!!
Where did you get a coupon for Maranatha?!?!?!?!
and i am TOTALLY getting the peacock cups as well! impulse buying on the internet
Love the pottery – thanks for the links. I used to be really into making my own pottery and I’m sure that she really appreciates your support of her Etsy shop just in time for the holidays!
The rain here the past couple of days really took the leaves down here too. So sad! Pumpkin oats = perfection! Enjoy your day Kath!
We had one of those storms here too (more wind than actual storm though). But it’s beautiful today! Love the pottery!
Beautiful beautiful photos.
I’m in NYC so I’m tree hungry.
i love waking up really hungry for breakfast!
haven’t watched the simpsons treehouse show in years – we once went to a premiere in LA b/c my husband worked on the movie. it was AWESOME!
I can’t wait to go home tomorrow and see the last of the fall foliage. I’ve been missing it in the city!
I love fall leaves.. They are so pretty just the way they are. Love those bowls, just as much as I love Etsy. I can browse the site for hours.
We really enjoy dishes that are both beautiful and functional. Thanks for sharing the link.
anything with a peacock feather on it, and i am so in lurve!
those bowls look like they might be a bit tippy, are they?
The bottoms are pretty flat
I love the bowls! Congrats to your friend for opening an Etsy shop – I’m going there right now…
Kath,
What type of containers did you use to store your leftovers last night (the cool tall rectangle)? Are they pyrex?
They are Anchor Hocking Co. Reader Samantha sent them to me because I use plastic which MAY be harmful for food storage (I don’t really know if that’s true, but we LOVE the glass so I use it instead!) I think Crate + Barrel has a nice glass set too.
It is CRAZY windy here! The leaves are out of control!
That crazy insane storm was here too in NY, like serious wind that actually had me worried! Yummy oats, I had some steel cut this morning which I haven’t had in a long time (usually stick to oatbran) and loved the texture, will be having it more often!
Those are adorable! I love hand made bowls and myself have barely any matching ones in my pantry!
I thought we were going to get that storm! the wind was movning in crazy directions, but I guess it fizzled out.
My aunt is obsessed with that style of dinnerware – I’ll be passing the Etsy page along to her!
The pictures in this post are so warm and cozy.
I love bowls like that – they’are awesomeQ!
yay for Beth on etsy! can’t wait to start ordering.. i think they are fabulous christmas gifts!
I love all things ETSY. I can spend hours looking through different shops online.
The bowls at the ETSY shop are pretty rad, but I kind of like those graffiti records too. Neat!
Gooorgeous photos! The leaves look so pretty as a backdrop.
Ooh, the peacock cups totally caught my attention when I first clicked on her etsy store!
ps. TOTALLY agree with you re: leaves on the ground! I love Fall!
Love the fall leaves! I’ll go check out her shop!
I love those peacock cups too! Super cute!
Im bummed that you can only buy that granola at Costco. It looks tasty!
oooh those bowls would make your meals extra-fun!
Beautiful
I dreamt about you last night!
xoxo
Thanks for including my bowls! I really appreciate it!
I am definitely going to have to try that recipe for oatmeal… bananas, pumpkin, cinnamon, and almond butter. Sounds great!
Yay for that beautiful antique spoon and gorgeous fall foliage!
We had a crazy wind storm in Pittsburgh last night too! My car was completely covered in yellow leaves this morning
I love the Simpsons House of Horror episodes! haha
Love the photos with all the leaves
Nice post! And I love the bowls!
lovin’ the bowls!!
