Ravenous Ravenous Rhino

Did anyone see the Simpsons Tree House of Horror on Sunday!?

Just kidding this !
I loved the game one.

I was certainly a ravenous rhino AND a hungry hippo this morning!!

Pumpkin oats a plenty!

IMG_1335

We had a bad storm last night. You know, THE storm that pulls every leaf off the trees. Where’d they all go!?

IMG_1313

Oh, there they are ; )

IMG_1315 IMG_1314

Of course I’m not complaining because they make a lovely backdrop for photography! More so on the ground than in the trees!

IMG_1340

IMG_1330

Today’s Mix

For TWO

  • 1/2 cup oat bran (leftover from bread making! It’s been a while since I’ve had this)
  • 1/2 cup oats (for texture)
  • Lots of water (I think I added 3/4 a cup?)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 whole ripe banana
  • 2 tbsp flax (stirred in halfway through)
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • Pinch salt, ground cloves, cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
  • Toppings: coconut, Ancient Grains granola, Maranatha Almond Butter (an old favorite that has returned via a coupon I have been hoarding for a year!!!!!!!!!!)

IMG_1336

IMG_1334

Our house coffee has turned into Whole Foods’ Pacific Rim.

IMG_1348

IMG_1350

Many of you have commented on this set of bowls I acquired a while back from my mom’s neighbor’s daughter, who was a neighborhood playfriend of mine.

IMG_1307

I usually report that they are one-of-a-kind and not available…HOWEVER!!

IMG_1309

Beth emailed me to let me know she has an ETSY store and has been continuing creating ceramic pieces! This purple bowl in particular looks very similar to mine!

IMG_1310 IMG_1311 IMG_1312

And the Peacock cups are on my Christmas list Smile

This rhino needs to get her horn to work!

Thankfully all the leaves are off the trees here too. Now I can finally finishing raking for the season and not have to worry about any more leaves falling.

I love almond butter…but it’s so expensive… hopefully I will find it on sale soon. I need my fix!

      Hey Alicia,
I had the same sentiments but you can make your own and it’s much cheaper!! You just need your favorite kind of almonds (mine are usually roasted/toasted):

      1 cup roasted almonds
      ¼ teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon unrefined vegetable oil OR olive oil

Blend the almonds and the salt in a food processor/blender until finely ground. Add oil until it reaches your desired consistency. You can experiment with different almonds, toasting them in the oven etc, etc. So good! And cheap.

Make your own almond butter, it’s really easy but just takes some patience! I roast almonds on a cookie sheet at 350 for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Put them in a food processor and whir, whir, whir, scraping down the sides every so often. Belive it or not, you WILL have almond butter in the end.

I love all the leaves! We’re still waiting for ours to fall here in Albuquerque, they’re turning that dingy mustard yellow color now, so I think next week we should be able to pull out the rake 🙂

One of the most depressing parts of the year sets in for me when I realize that it will be 6 months before leaves come back! 1/2 of the time trees don’t have leaves?! How upsetting!

Luckily this realization is quickly forgotten because the holidays come up!

They are Anchor Hocking Co. Reader Samantha sent them to me because I use plastic which MAY be harmful for food storage (I don’t really know if that’s true, but we LOVE the glass so I use it instead!) I think Crate + Barrel has a nice glass set too.
