The South is up in arms – it’s sleeting!!! And we might get some snow later!
I think the wintery weather made my brain sleep too long – I didn’t get up until 8:30!?!!?!
Came down to warm up
Whipped up some oats…
- 1/4 cup Scottish oatmeal, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup milk
- Half UNRIPE banana = blech
- Cinnamon, vanilla, Chia seeds
- 2 tbsp cooked wheatberries
- Deb‘s homemade Pecan Butter, nestled down in
- Last 1/4 of Great Harvest gingerbread muffin
Sadly, this bowl of oatmeal was not good!! I think the underripe banana made it taste too starchy or something. And the wheatberries dried it out. I will do better tomorrow!
Looks a bit like a Hersey’s kiss!
YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^^ That baby roach is now paralyzed under a cup
Listening to some Ray Conniff while I get some work done, then hitting the gym before it closes down for a winter storm warning!

Ahh! Bring back the blue skies. Sunshine + cold is better than gray/sleet-y any day. The gingerbread oats look great. Seems like you found a new favorite.
The gym closes for a winter storm warning?!? The South IS up in arms!
You should see how Texas reacts to weather like that!
EEK! Baby roaches (and all bugs) freak me the heck out. I’d be scared to sleep!
It is definitely snowing here in Northern SC!
I know what you mean – an underripe banana can really spoil a good bowl of oats!! They get all dry and yucky. Sometimes I find it hard to leave the banana out even when I know it’s not ripe enough yet but that is always a bad idea. Hopefully your delicious oats are back tomorrow :O).
I am a bit jealous of your cold weather. Here in Southern California it appears to be summer again! 80 degrees and not very Christmasy!!
I bet Debb’s pecan butter tasted great in that bowl! WE’re finally getting snow from that storm over the weekend and I can not wait
That’s so funny the gym closes for a winter storm! Here in Chicago, they don’t close down anything unless it’s the apocalypse! Ah, to live in a warm climate would be so nice!
Ahh a bad week for bugs in your house!! First the spider web pancake debacle and now this!?! AHHH!!!
That is the kind of day that makes me stay home under a wool blanket! Also I love how you take no mercy with intruders.
Stay safe today! Sleet/ice storms are no fun!
Nothing here in Raleigh yet.. it’s cold and smells like snow but I don’t think we are gonna get much..
We to have those damn bugs in our house it drives me insane.. I bought a handvac so I could suck them up rather than having cups all over the house.. lol
I wish it was cold here! It’ll get cooler here this weekend but it will be hot by Christmas day. 80! Blah! I hope it snows for you.
Eww to roaches. I. Can’t. Stand. Roaches!! Bjfklfhwei. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with one. :-\
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for snow too! Charlotte and Gastonia close EVERYTHING down at the slightest drop of snow, so good idea getting to the gym before that happens
Have a good, hopefully snowy, day!
That bowl of oatmeal looks like the perfect thing for the weather outside
And I saw a Hershey Kiss too! Haha
Aww snow! I hope you get some!
They are predicting up to a foot of snow here!!
Ew to the sleet but YAY to the snow!! I don’t think I could ever live anywhere that doesn’t get a white Christmas.
It still amazes me what the South thinks is a “winter storm.” tehehe
In my excitement over finding oatmea recipes I love on your blog, I too made several batches of oatmeal with unripe bananas this week, and I believe “blech” is most certainly the appropriate response! Enjoy your sleety/rainy/potentially snowy Friday!
Haha I wonder what was happening the last time anyone said “the South is up in arms.”
Stay warm!
Oh no… You keep your snow up there!
You should have made yourself a new bowl of oats! I hate starting the day with a sub par breakfast.
Yikes!
We have a winter storm warning for NYC I think too! Yuck!
I hope both of our respective cities calm down by next week. I’m flying to Florida via Charlotte! YAY!
Ahh!! Just seeing that roach makes me cringe. When we lived in an apartment downtown we had a MAJOR roach problem. My first interaction with one is when it fell on my face when. I. was. sleeping. I screamed bloody murder and spent the rest of the night with hubby’s arms over my face and the lights on until I could finally fall back asleep.
*shudder*
Show NO MERCY!!
I’m so jealous of your sleeping in! I was up at 4:45, just like every other week day!
Sorry your oats weren’t good…
And blech to the roach! Makes me shudder!
You are so funny with your coffee shape sightings! I actually look forward to seeing what you find every day now. LOL! And I am the same way with bugs. When I moved down to Texas and saw the size of their cockroaches, I freaked!!
Yeck!! We rently moved and now we’re on the water and the “water bugs” are everywhere!! AHHHHH!!!
I saw on CNN this morning that the east coast is getting hit pretty hard by storms this weekend! I’m glad I flew out yesterday!
It’s not sleeting in NYC, but it is COLD. Only 16 degrees when I went for my run this morning! Definitely a hot breakfast and hot coffee kind of day
WOW! We are supposed to get a storm this weekend in Boston, but we are totally used to that stuff. EEEKKK @ the baby roach!
Dang, I hate when something you makes isn’t good. Such a waste.
If that snow come up to Boston and dumps more than a dusting…I will not be pleased. I will be pissed.
I can’t stand unripe nanners either.
I HATE roaches. After 3-sprays, our apartment is FINALLY roach free.
Happy Friday!
I live in Raleigh and just in the last half hour or so the atmosphere has changed dramatically…maybe it’s going to snow here after all! I wanted to go running outside this afternoon, but I guess I’ll have to watch the snow/sleet/etc. from inside my apartment’s gym…
Ugh– bad weather! Stay safe and warm!
It’s actually sunny here in Seattle!
EEk. Critters in the house
The winter weather is sneaky, I slept in till 9
!
i kinda miss the feeling of sleeping in while it’s a wintry mess outside….extra cozy!
Bummer on the startchy banana…it can ruin a good yogurt bowl too! It’s funny because I have only lived in two weather extremes….in upstate NY they don’t close anything no matter how hard it’s snowing (well ONCE they did when it was really really bad, in the 3 years I was there) and in San Diego, we freak out when it drizzles. It seems like the south is nice because you get seasons but it doesn’t get TOO cold, for too long.
Yikes! Definitely looks like a good day to stay inside! Hope it clears up soon.
Be careful out there, sleet can be treacherous! We’re supposed to get ~1″ of snow tonight here in MO, and I’m actually kinda excited about it. As long as I can get out to go to cycling class at the Y in the morning.
I guess the saying “looks can be deceiving” is true… that bowl of oats looks just as delicious as all your others. Tomorrow will more than make up for it though!
Nothing has even fallen yet but already, tons of stuff is canceled/closed tomorrow. 8-12 inches expected here in DC!
I had an under ripe banana this morning in my oatmeal. It wasn’t good at all!
Hi Kath! Do you have a Christmas tree up? I havent seen it on here and i bet you’d be a great decorator…just curious. Thanks.
nope! We’re not doing one this year as I mentioned in last night’s post.
I love the green and red in the picture of your coffee carafe and your cup!
That baby roach brought back visions of my first apartment in Los Angeles – spray now, spray fast! I’m not a fan of chemical sprays, but trust me on this one!
Winter storm in Charlotte?! Ahh! Good luck and take pictures (not that I have to tell you that) haha!
I saw the weather watch over the weekend – stay warm and safe!
that bowl of oats sure does look great but i can def agree with ya on the underripe bananas :/ overripe are the way to go
jenna
I love me some Ray Conniff!
