You are here: Home / Lifestyle / I Have Gas + Air

December 18, 2009

I Have Gas + Air

One chore I absolutely cannot STAND to do is get air in my tires. I have hated it since I turned 16 and my dad showed me how to do it (and then every holiday through college told me my tires were low). I hate getting gas too. There are two main reasons why I hate these chores:

1) I always do them when I am headed somewhere and feel rushed

2) It makes your hands all dirty

A few weeks ago I thought I probably needed air when the temps dropped and spend $2.25 in quarters and STILL didn’t think my tires were up to 30PSI. All of my pressure gauges are broken so I had to rely on the one on the air thinger and I don’t know if it was accurate or not. So I eventually had to sanitize my hands and leave for class without enough air.

So 3 weeks later I go back for a second try. I filled all of the tires up in about 60 seconds. I realized that last time I was doing it wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn’t thinking and didn’t push the lever down to actually pump the air in. So for a good 10 minutes and $3 in quarters, I was just sitting there holding the air thing up to my tires. D’OH!!

So as of now, I have both gas + air 🙂

***

[Sorry if that was super boring!!]

After the auto fixes I went straight to the gym. We haven’t had much more precipitation and will probably just get light rain all day 🙁 Maybe a little sumptin’ tonight. My workout was just OK – kind of low key and rushed. I did 30 minutes on the Stairmaster and then 15 on the Stat bike and then had to rush home for a conference call that we ended up rescheduling.

I wore a shirt to the gym that I was asked to review by Endure Sportswear.

[After taking this photo I put on about 3 more layers for traveling to the gym!]

IMG_1363 (640x427)

PROS: I shirt I picked was a size small, and at first I thought it would be too big, but I kind of liked how it was looser. It did fit well and was comfy. I liked the fabric – it was thick enough – and there was a cute little pocket for a key, snack, or MP3 player.

CONS: What I didn’t like was that once I started sweating the shirt did get wet and since it wicked the sweat off of me, when the shirt did touch my stomach the sweat was icy cold!! More form fitting clothes don’t get cold because they lay against your body. So I’d recommend this shirt for summer months only. I also don’t like that it’s dry clean only. I mean, I’m not just going to rinse out a shirt that I sweat stinky gallons in! Nor am I going to dry clean it. Not sure what I’ll end up doing.

A plus is that the Endure shirts are only about $16, which for sports clothes is quite inexpensive. Plus if you’d like, I’ve got a coupon code for 15% off: ENDURE101 good through January 31st. Need a last minute Xmas gift?

On to lunch – and it’s a good one!!!

I am nominating this for the KERF Awards’ Best Salad Of The Year and also Best Use Of Leftovers.

IMG_1377 (640x427)

IMG_1382 (640x427)

  • Green leaf lettuce + spinach dressed in 1/2 tsp olive oil, agave and Krazy salt
  • 1/2 cup mango
  • 1/2 cup leftover Pumpkin Spice Garbanzos
  • Leftover acorn squash petals
  • Leftover pancake pitas

IMG_1395 (640x427) IMG_1381 (640x427) IMG_1383 (640x427) IMG_1378 (640x427)

Now I really hope my intestines don’t burst! I tried not to eat too much squash skin, but I inevitably ate most of it!

Afternoon:

  • Phone calls to make
  • Presents to wrap that didn’t happen last week
  • Dishes to do
  • Errands to run (Costco)
  • and possible a beer tasting that the napping brewer wants to attend when he wakes up

I once accidentally washed a dry clean only shirt… it definitely wasn’t as new or nice looking after, but it didn’t fall apart either… 😀

My husband asks me all the time, “When did you last check the air in your tires?” and every time I tell him, “That’s your job.” 😳 I mean he’s a car guy why do I have to do it? My grandmother refuses to pump her own gas (she’s 92) becaues it’s unlady-like. Maybe I get it from her.

I’ve never put air in tires. Isn’t that a shame? I’m going to be in so much trouble when my husband gets deployed. I hate putting gas in too but I’m lucky that my husband usually fills up my car for me.

I agree, that’s totally nuts! I have very few DC only things, a dress coat is the only one I do regularly, and that doesn’t need it even once a year. My DC blouses/dresses I seldom wear since I changed from a law firm job and even then I handwashed them in woolite and they were fine.

I’m a lucky girl – my parents own a trucking business, so I always steal air from their shop for my car. 🙂 I don’t mind pumping gas, but I hate that I smell gas for a while afterwards.

I don’t understand why they’d make a workout shirt dry clean only?!? That’s some serious stink to deal with b/n cleanings! I’m afraid that would be a deal-breaker for me, low cost & all. 🙁

    Gorgeous salad!!

I agree, both of those tasks pretty much suck! I love my new car though, it has run-flat tires which just tell me when the pressure is low and they can even go up to 150 miles if punctured…. fantastic safety feature!!! Now if only it could figure out how to fill my gas tank up automatically so I don’t have to….. 😉

Here’s a reason to move to Oregon (I don’t live there either). All their gas stations are full service – no pump-your-own! Don’t know about air. I usually make my husband do that as well, but I do pump my own gas. Since it’s winter I usually have gloves on, and I keep handwipes in my car for wiping my hands too.

I also hate to put air in my tires which I had to do yesterday and I never do self service gas. I always drop the screw thingy on the tires when I try to put in air and I hardly ever get it right the first time. I have perfected the helpless female look everytime I enter a gas station. Once I accidently pulled up next to a self-service pump and I still got an attendant to pump my gas for me. I am all for “I am woman hear me roar” just not when dealing with my car.

I had to put air in my tires every three days with my old car. It was a beater, so I never wanted to spend the extra money to get new tires when I was inevitably getting a new car soon. But man, it sucked doing it in the dead of winter when it was under -20 degrees out. There were times when I legitimately though I got frostbite on my fingers!
