On My Plate

November 27, 2010

I’ve got a bit of the post-holiday blahs. I think we need a Christmas tree tomorrow to brighten the mood!

I cleaned up the house and did lots of laundry. Things are all in order!

Matt and I put together a simple leftovers soup for dinner using most of the T-giving staples

Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Soup

  • 4 cups broth
  • 2 cups turkey bits (both white and dark meat)
  • 2 cups greens (a mix of cooked cabbage and fresh collard greens, torn)
  • 2 cups cooked wild rice
  • 1 tsp Garlic Gold crunchies in oil

Combine all in a stock pot and heat until steamy.

Serves 4ish

On the side: leftover T-giving salad topped with a plum(b) and half an apple plus some p-nuts

I am definitely missing an appetite today. This dinner didn’t taste very good and I probably should have eaten less of it. I think I mostly just ate it all out of boredom!

On my fingers: ULTA teal

Is it Saturday?

See y’all tomorrow!

Have a great night Kath. I just got home from leaving my sisters and I definitely have the after holiday blues. I am so ready to get in the Christmas spirit. Enjoy your night.

A nice fresh looking dinner! Pinenuts are the bomb. Shame about your appetite. It will return tomorrow, no doubt. Festive season is fun but can do that to you – bring on the blahs, that is!

Love the Pandora Christmas stations. They complete me.

6 Amanda (Eating Up) November 27, 2010 at 8:42 pm

I have the post-holiday blues too! And the post-holiday snoozies that just won’t quit.

7 Mary @ Bites and Bliss November 27, 2010 at 8:48 pm

Sorry you’re in a post-holiday slump. Putting up the decorations will definitely help. :)

8 Hannah November 27, 2010 at 8:51 pm

The only time I’ve ever made soup with leftover turkey, I used wild rice too! The flavours go so well together :)

9 Georgie @ Georgie Goes Healthy November 27, 2010 at 8:52 pm

I already have the Holiday blues heading back to the city tomorrow which means work on Monday :-( I am with you on the holiday decorations – Hopefully my roommates and I will decorate on Monday night! Plus I will listen to christmas music at work – that should help!

10 Camille November 27, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Bummer on your appetite. I’m sort of the same today… nothing tastes good but I’m eating everything anyway :/ In fact, more of everything than usual…

11 Grocery Goddess Jen November 27, 2010 at 8:55 pm

I feel ya on the post holiday blahs!

12 Mama Pea November 27, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Cheer up!!!! Perhaps a Manhattan is in order? With extra cherry juice…and not for $15. :)

13 Kath November 27, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Haha! Not for $15 for sure :)

14 Michele @ Healthy Cultivations November 27, 2010 at 9:10 pm

This is a great leftover recipe. It’s so fun to see what people do with the leftovers… aside from just heating them up. It’s so possible to turn them into something new and interesting.

15 stacey-healthylife November 27, 2010 at 9:11 pm

My appetite is wanky also. I don’t know how most people live like this everyday.

16 Vanessa November 27, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I totally agree with the “blah-ness”. I’m convinced it’s all of this food from the past couple days!

17 Christine November 27, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Haha, I also have on swingin’ christmas on pandora and am debating decorating…..

Need more energy for that though….

18 Maddie (Healthy Maddie) November 27, 2010 at 9:34 pm

I’m listening the the christmas station on Pandora too :)

19 Sarah @ goingongoals November 27, 2010 at 9:34 pm

Diggin’ that teal polish!

21 Natalia - a side of simple November 27, 2010 at 9:46 pm

I’m trying to ward off the blahs by enjoying my last night home with the family before I head back to school. All that waits there are looming assignments and finals! I think some Christmas decorations and tunes are just the thing to switch up the mood :)

22 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) November 27, 2010 at 9:59 pm

I need to get some Christmas music to put me in the mood. I lost my momentum after eating SO much this weekend, lol.

23 Krystina November 27, 2010 at 10:05 pm

Love the nails!

24 Meagan November 27, 2010 at 10:20 pm

I thought you were going to read Harry Potter next?

25 Kath November 28, 2010 at 8:04 am

No I decided not to because we saw the movie and I didn’t want to spoil the movie. I’ve already read the whole series so it was just a pre-movie refresher suggestion

26 Laura November 27, 2010 at 10:37 pm

I’m having a bit of post-Thanksgiving blahs too. Bring on the Christmas season!

27 Paige @Running Around Normal November 27, 2010 at 11:34 pm

I get a little depressed after Thanksgiving too. It helps that Christmas is right around the corner, but I still miss my family!

28 'laina November 28, 2010 at 12:12 am

A lil’ vitamin D will help with those blues. I hope you get ta feelin’ your sassy self, soon enough.

29 Kristi Rimkus November 28, 2010 at 12:21 am

I love your use of Turkey Day leftovers. After the usual over indulgence, this is a refreshing meal!

30 Cara Craves... November 28, 2010 at 12:25 am

Do let yourself have those blues…just think of all the fun you had with your
family and all the good food you got to eat!

31 Laura (Starloz) November 28, 2010 at 1:02 am

you turned your leftovers into soup, genius!

32 Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter November 28, 2010 at 1:21 am

I swear it doesn’t feel like Saturday… more like Sunday, but hey! One more day to enjoy! I love that nail polish by the way. It reminds me a lot of winter.

33 Namaste Gurl November 28, 2010 at 1:31 am

34 Melissa @ I Never Imagined November 28, 2010 at 2:32 am

Thanksgiving leftovers soup is a pretty interesting idea! Pity about your appetite- I have been feeling the same lately. I’m traveling at the moment so I need to eat to keep my energy levels up, but it’s so hard! What gives?! Blah!

Post-holiday blues just hit me this morning. Oh, wait, I think the thing that hit me is that today is my last day before going back to work. Eww!
So, our tree is going up today as well!! yay :)

43 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 28, 2010 at 8:49 am

Getting ready for Christmas is always a good way to beat the post-holiday blues. There’s nothing better than Christmas music to put you in a good mood! 😀

44 Shannon November 28, 2010 at 9:20 am

I’m ready for Christmas, too! I can’t wait for your Boston posts. I love that city!
