Hot + Toasty Walnuts

September 19, 2009

Yessssss! I finally slept through the night!! No crickets, no barking dogs, no restlessness.

[What am I, 6 months old!?]

Couldn’t wait to come down for this!

The Mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, soy milk, half banana, pinch salt
  • ~1 tbsp raisins
  • ~1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • Splash vanilla
  • ~2 tbsp Nature’s Path Granola
  • ~2 tbsp walnuts, which I toasted in the microwave for 1 minute on high and they were fab
  • Spoonful TJ’s PB

+ Half Spring Blend decaf and Half Mara‘s Peruvian Caf. OH HOW I MISSED SPRING BLEND!!!

We stayed up and watched Autumn Hearts last night. It was a beautiful film, but I thought the plot was just meh.

Hoping this digests soon because I am going to a 90-minute hot yoga class with Amanda this morning!

I haven’t been sleeping the best either the past few nights because of a flying creature we had last weekend, which I am now haunted by :(

But I am so glad you got in a good night’s sleep! Your breakfast looks spectacular. Have fun at yoga!

Mmmm. Toasty walnuts reminds me of winter…. But that is one of the only good things I can think about winter, so…

13 Marisa (Trim The Fat) September 19, 2009 at 8:55 am

Hehehe -yeah sleeping through the night is a WONDERFUL gift! I cherish when that happens…kids get in the way of that a LOT!

You’ve inspired me to make some oats this a.m. !

14 Mel @ She Runs Brooklyn September 19, 2009 at 9:04 am

Haha, glad you slept well. I did not with all the frat rushing around my dorm, but sleeping through the night is usually no problem for me so I guess I can’t complain.
What nature’s path granola do you use? I’m supposed to be getting a bunch of products to sample including some unreleased ones and I can’t wait to see how they are,

16 Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries September 19, 2009 at 9:28 am

17 Mara @ What's for Dinner? September 19, 2009 at 9:35 am

Glad you finally slept well! there was a period of time a few years back I had to use earplugs because EVERY noise woke me up :(

18 Morgan (lifeafterbagels) September 19, 2009 at 9:51 am

I am jealous, I did not sleep at all last night, cramps :( . . . I’m trying to force myself out for a run, I know exercise is good for them

19 kay (eating machine) September 19, 2009 at 9:55 am

haha when i got a few days with trouble sleeping my fiance starts laughing and going “you know, Ashlynn (my niece) can sleep through the night. And she can’t even talk yet”
and yeah, then when i do sleep through the night i get excited too

20 Biz September 19, 2009 at 9:56 am

Jealous of your yoga! I finally found a class, but its Saturday mornings at 7:00 am!

21 K September 19, 2009 at 10:10 am

Sleeping through the night is definitely something worth celebrating! My sleep cycles are all messed up lately so I’m pretty envious :)

Have a great day, Kath!!

22 Jenn (www. ) September 19, 2009 at 10:17 am

Walnuts remind me of fall, too. That bowl looks so comforting and yummy.

I love a full night’s sleep. My problem is waking up prematurely; my body thinks its done after 6 hours. I try to tell it that’s not true, but it does the same thing almost every night. Maybe 6 hours is my sweet spot lol.

23 Madelin @ What is for breakfast? September 19, 2009 at 10:19 am

Yum! Walnuts on oats, must do it :)

24 Abby September 19, 2009 at 10:27 am

Hi Kath.. your breakfast looks so so yummy! I always read your blog but never comment, so I decided why not today! Your food always looks amazing and oh soo healthy. I get some great ideas from you! I read you grew up in Hillsborough.. I actually am a teacher at a small charter school there.. live in Carrboro but love working in such a cute little town.

Ps.. I have finally started my own little blog.. its certainly a work in progress but with some time I hope I can inspire some peeps just like you!

Happy Saturday!

25 Kellie September 19, 2009 at 10:30 am

Have you ever tried using a sleep machine? I can’t sleep without mine! It makes white noise and drowns out the sounds. I actually just found an iPhone app called ‘sleep machine’ last night. Try it out, better than the uncomfortable ear plugs!!

26 Madeline @ Greens and Jeans September 19, 2009 at 10:45 am

There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep through the night, so yay for a great night’s sleep!

27 Lynn @ The Actors Diet September 19, 2009 at 11:06 am

Hot yoga is sooooo relaxing. I actually posted about my first experience with it on my blog thanks to you and Jenna’s and Heather’s posts about how great it is. Enjoy!

33 Lele September 19, 2009 at 1:23 pm

You know your savory cottage cheese bowl that everyone got so excited about? (mind you, you posted it like a month ago, but it stuck with me cause it looked so awesome). But anyway, I made it! And it was awesome!
Thank you, as ever, for your creative and delicious meal ideas!
