September 10, 2011

Back from BB&B and Lowes. I didn’t get as much as I had hoped! I’m so indecisive. I want to put up tons of shelves but I just don’t know where to start! I ended up emptying my cart back out at checkout and putting lots of things back that I decided I didn’t need like shower caddies! Good things I got were eco shower curtains, light bulbs for our weird new lights, a stand-alone toilet paper holder and LOTS of Magic Erasers!!

I need to remember that houses take time to decorate.

I came home for a quick lunch – literally 10 minutes – and am headed to meet Larbs + Matt now!

I know that feeling when you move in somewhere – its like having a big empty blank canvas! But you’re right – once you’ve moved in and lived there it will become clear what you do and don’t need and where! I’m super excited to see how the new house looks once you’ve worked the Kath magic on it!

2 Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food September 10, 2011 at 12:36 pm

ohhh yey I do remember that – I can’t wait for our beer fest in two weeks! 😀

3 Erika - The Teenage Taste September 10, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Sounds like a great lunch! Have fun at the festival tonight! 😀

4 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) September 10, 2011 at 12:39 pm

I love Bed Bath and Beyond! I bought my food processor from there and got a great deal. I could live in the kitchen section :)

5 lynda @ healthy hoboken girl September 10, 2011 at 12:42 pm

Have a great Saturday…good luck with the move!! I’m sure you’re super busy today!!!

6 Lindsay @ bikingbefore bed September 10, 2011 at 12:44 pm

Bed Bath and Beyond is such a dangerous store. I always have to go in there with a plan or who knows what will end up in the cart? I was the same way when I bought my house. I wanted everything to be decorated immediately. I had to take a step back and slow down and get things I really liked little by little.

7 Monica September 10, 2011 at 12:56 pm

Which shower curtain did you get? I have been looking for one without those harsh, toxic chemicals.

8 KathEats September 10, 2011 at 9:13 pm

BB&B brand Eco

9 Lauren @ What Lauren Likes September 10, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Yummy looking lunch! Have fun tonight :)

10 Monika September 10, 2011 at 1:07 pm

Your meals look so simple. I’m opposite and tend to combine a million things. Eggs on buttered toast with a side of yogurt containers, fruits, veggies, dessert(s). Combination confusion perhaps.

On another note, I’ve re-fallen in love with bread after viewing your blog for a while. I have to have it at every meal with anything on it. Bread and tons of “unhealthy” foods are suddenly my addiction. Go figure!

11 Jamie September 10, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I combine a lot too. Chicken, bread, fats, hummus, dessert, yogurt in all one meal. Keeps it interesting I suppose!

12 Blessing @ Working Mom Journal September 10, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Love the combo. I try not to buy silly things like shower caddies too. I bring them home, and they are just another accessory taking up space. Would like to see the eco-shower curtains though, that sounds very natural

13 Aine @ Something to Chew Over September 10, 2011 at 1:22 pm

A lovely colourful lunch! Leftovers rock :)

Have a great night!

14 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table September 10, 2011 at 1:26 pm

I thought you were going to say you went to Homegoods. That store saved me TONS of money when I bought my condo.

Is that a Pete the Cat bottle at the bottom of that montage?

15 Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews September 10, 2011 at 1:27 pm

I’m super indecisive too. Especially when it comes to spending money!

16 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats September 10, 2011 at 1:32 pm

I only have a studio and it took me a couple months to get decorated. Okay, lived here a year and it’s still not decorated… haha. Have fun tonight!!

17 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio September 10, 2011 at 1:34 pm

Have a blast today!! I can’t wait to see pictures! Beer is soooo good!

18 Khushboo September 10, 2011 at 1:35 pm

When’s Matt happier- around bread or beer? 😀

19 KathEats September 10, 2011 at 9:14 pm

I’d say….beer!

20 Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance September 10, 2011 at 2:01 pm

When I moved into my new apartment it was completely empty and I couldn’t even sleep here for the first couple of nights because I was creeped out! haha I’m sure everything will start to come together for you soon enough, Kath!

21 Kim @ Eat, Live, and Blog September 10, 2011 at 2:13 pm

When I first moved into my apartment, it took me awhile to finally finish decorating it. It takes time. Btw, your lunch looks great! So colorful. :)

22 lynn @ the actor's diet September 10, 2011 at 2:14 pm

eggplant pizza burger – yes! love little sliders

23 Julie - StressStories September 10, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Oh how I know that feeling of wanting to decorate every room at once and make everything perfect from the beginning :-) But you’re right, it does take time and I believe that everything will look and function better if you’ve had some time to “test the house” and the way you use the rooms, before making too many definite decisions on how to decorate.

Hope you have a fantastic evening :-)

24 Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen September 10, 2011 at 2:27 pm

I felt like I was decorating my apartment until I moved out. haha

25 Rebekah @ Medicine, Munchies and Movement September 10, 2011 at 2:55 pm

I can’t believe how good the leftover eggplant pizza burger looks. If only leftovers could be like that everyday 😀

26 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife September 10, 2011 at 3:13 pm

I love BB&B, such a good store!

I had a sandwich and salad today too–it is such a great go-to lunch in a hurry!!

27 Christine @ BookishlyB September 10, 2011 at 3:41 pm

We’re moving this weekend too and I feel the same way- I want it DONE but I know the little decorative touches take time (and money). Good luck.

28 Cait's Plate September 10, 2011 at 4:48 pm

I love that you made that into a burger! That’s such a good idea.

And gah! So jealous of that event (was last year too!). We’re moving in a couple weeks and will needing to do the same thing with the decorative touches – totally what makes a house a home :)

29 kristinp September 10, 2011 at 5:10 pm

Have you tried the kitchen and bathroom magic erasers yet?? HOLY CLEANING POWER, Batman! They are amazing, AH-MAAAAZZING! I just cleaned my grout with a single swipe and cleaned off window grease spots that have been my nemesis for four years with one quick wipe. I’m not normally a product shiller, but you seem to love a good clean house and let me tell you, those things are life changing. I deep cleaned my kitchen and bathroom in less than 30 minutes! Weeeeeee!

Houses do take time to decorate. Sometimes I feel like we want to decorate immediately for everyone else who might come visit a new house when you really need to decorate as you settle into the house. I guess we have been “settling” for almost 7 years! We have lived in ours for almost 7 years and are still remodeling and decorating. I can totally relate to being indecisive and emptying the cart and putting things back.

32 Hillary September 10, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I do that all the time: get really excited about purchases and then back out at the last minute! Like you said, it takes time.

33 kaila @ healthy helper! September 10, 2011 at 5:26 pm

I can’t wait to see the house when its all done up! I love seeing new decor and stuff! Should be exciting!

34 Jo September 10, 2011 at 5:38 pm

How do you reconcile buying Magic Erasers with using Shaklee, which is a much healthier product? Magic Erasers contain formaldehyde and aren’t eco- or human-friendly in any way. And I thought you really liked Shaklee’s line and found it to be effective. So why the Magic Erasers? I’m confused, I admit.

35 KathEats September 10, 2011 at 9:14 pm

I honestly haven’t given it much thought..

36 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin September 10, 2011 at 6:07 pm

I’m so indecisive like that too! I’ve done the same thing with putting lots of things back before I go to checkout. I’m sure it’s saved us a lot of money over the years! 😀

37 Sweet and Savvy September 10, 2011 at 7:55 pm

I LOVE that you’re eating a healthified PIZZA BURGER. People who say healthy food isn’t tasty need to think out of the box:)

38 Emily September 10, 2011 at 8:25 pm

I would be so stumped trying to decorate and buy for a whole house, let alone an apartment (hopefully) in the next year or so. I think I would have to do a lot of online research and mapping it out beforehand. Have fun at the event tonight!!!

39 Anna September 10, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Omigosh those little mugs are the cutest. I hope you’re having fun! :)

40 susan September 10, 2011 at 9:00 pm

do you have a container store in cville? you will be in love…… they have everything on your list!

41 KathEats September 10, 2011 at 9:15 pm

no but I would love one!

42 Angel7 September 10, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Decorating a house does take time. I still do not have our house completely decorated like I would like–partially because I am indecisive as well. After eight years residing in our house, though, I have slowly but surely incorporated things.

43 Hannah September 10, 2011 at 11:38 pm

One day I’ll be able to appreciate a hunk of eggplant like that.

One day.

44 Lara @TresLaLa September 11, 2011 at 12:42 am

I wish that I’d waited a bit to finish furnishing our home. We had a lot of things (combining 2 full apartments will do that!) but we ended up finding everything that we were looking for for the rest of the rooms at 1 store (a local consignment store that had a bunch of New items that designers had bought but didn’t need)… Although I love it all, I do still look and wish that I could justify a different sofa (or dining room, or office, etc.) Take your time and have fun with it! Fall in love with each piece!

45 Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) September 11, 2011 at 12:50 am

Sparkling is the best kind of water to drink, in my opinion :)

If it makes you feel any better, we’ve been living at my condo for a YEAR and we literally just filled and put up the picture frame with wedding pictures on our wall. I think since this place doesn’t really feel like home, and we don’t really like it, we’ve been resisting putting in the homey touches.
