I had every intention of starting today with a little Dave Farmar yoga. I came down and was really ready to do it. And then Twitter got in the way. And then my stomach growled. And then I had a smoothie in my hands and yoga flew out the door faster than the Twitter bird could chirp!
SIAB for TWO:
- 1 banana
- 1 whole furry kiwi
- 1/2 cup frozen cherries
- 1 cup organic skim milk
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 scoops Vega Vanilla Chai
- 1 big handful ice
- 1/4 cup raw rolled oats
It made two giant 2.5 bowls of smoothie which we topped with some crunchy buckwheat granola and magic shell.
A Coconut Butter magic shell demonstration. Heat the coconut butter ONCE to make it liquidy at room temp (meaning, I did this a few days ago in a pot of hot water and it’s still liquidy). Drizzle the liquid onto the freezing cold smoothie. Watch it harden.
Hard as a rock!
[Go, Matt, Go!]
Both Matt and I agree that although we both LOVE SIABs, which eat them too fast and they give us a temporary stomachache. Must remember to slooooow down next time!
RSS
I have no clue why my posts are delayed in my RSS feed. But I have noticed that a handful of other bloggers’ posts have been delayed in mine, which leads me to believe there is some kink in Google Reader and not my RSS feed (plus, if I look at the feed, my latest post is there, AND Emily said my dinner post came through fine for her). This is very annoying, but I don’t know what to do! I’m so sorry!
Up Up And Away
After showering and packing this morning, we’re headed to visit our friends Huey and Indy for the night!
And then tomorrow, Caitlin + Jason get married!!!

I have got to get my hands on some coconut butter.
Your last 2 posts from yesterday didn’t show up for me in reader, but this one did!
I’m always in awe of that coconut shell…I still have yet to try it, but I haven’t made a smoothie in awhile! I just got a post of yours in Reader from three days ago, but this one came up just fine. Weird! Hope you have a great day
That’s so nifty with the coconut butter. And fun too.
This post just came through on my reader…so if you just posted it the Reader is working fine for me at least.
Oooh, wedding! Can’t wait to see glimpses of it! SIAB goodness
I love that cocout shell thing – I wish wish I had coconut butter!
Love the coconut butter shell! Plus that bowl is gorrgeous!
I think Google Reader is having the issue. Posts to a lot of the blogs I read aren’t coming through like they used to if they come through at all. One of your posts from the 14th came through mine last night!
And of course–this post showed up fine in reader!
Funny I thought one of the reasons to put smoothies IN a bowl is to slow down!
I just come to your website everyday!
Aw, have fun with Emily!! Or at least with her dogs, if she isn’t going to be there
And, I’m so jealous of your coconut butter! Still can’t find it anywhere! Ha, Matt eats like Jason does. I try to tell Jason to slowwww down, but he acts like the food is going to dissapear off of his plate if he doesn’t eat it in 2 seconds flat…”Are you even TASTING it?!” is my response. Have a lovely Friday!
Lot’s of computer problems lately for everyone. Enjoy your weekend.
Huey and Indy can hardly stand it. They are ready for you!
Lol, that’s why I don’t twitter
I SO don’t need anything taking up more of my time…and I know I’d get obsessed with it!
Yeah, reader has been wonky lately. Weird. Your breakfast looks yummy! Have fun at the wedding!
i am thoroughly intrigued by your siabs. i may just have to surrender to the coconut butter!
I’m using Newsfire and just got this update… weird, huh?
Anyway, that SIAB looks soooo yummy! I need an excuse to have one at 15.30 after having had a big lunch… do I really need to wait until tomorrow??
Recently made a SIAB for the first time – and loved it! Wondering where you got that pretty black and white bowl?
Pottery Barn
I don’t use reader, just come directly to the blog where I used to be able to read the two most recent posts before having to click directly on older ones when catching up. Now I can only read the most recent post before having to click on others. I liked having two better.
Have a great trip!
Coconut gets so hard? Wow that must be cool to eat
)
I adore smoothies, but always drink them too fast as well!
Sounds like a busy day today!
I always get brain freeze from drinking a smoothie too fast.
Breakfast looks delicious – enjoy your day!
If you use Feedburner, “ping” your post so that the feed reader robots pick it up quicker. The timing of posts showing up in a reader is pretty random, it’s just whenever the robots pick it up. It used to take my post hours to show up, not it takes about a minute. Your posts have all been showing up in my reader, no idea if they’re delayed or not.
I think google reader wasn’t feeling well because there were a lot of delayed posts coming through and then it kept telling me I had unread items when I didn’t. Strange.
I thought it was maybe my computer that was acting funny — and maybe it is, but my google reader is all messed up.
Drinking smoothies too fast gives me a tummyache too, I just need to sloooow down!
google reader must’ve been having an off day – not your fault, don’t sweat it!
Have a fun time at the wedding!
You’ll just have to squeeze in the yoga another time; no worries.
I need to try the magic shell trick with my coconut butter
You have caused me to be hopelessly addicted to coconut butter! I’ve been out since Monday and I am going through withdrawal!
Today’s SIAB looks particularly perfect!
And a little fyi: I just changed my gmail theme to fall colors via your Nerd KERF that I remember viewing from last year. Thanks for that, Kath!
Mmm what a delicious breakfast! I need to incorporate soothies in a bowl into my diet!
I go directly to your blog and everything looks great here!
I had a SIAB this morning, too! Without the magic shell though, since it was post-workout. I was sad, cuz that’s always my favorite part.
weird about google reader, though mine seems to be working again. have a great friday!
It’s getting too cold for smoothies here (at leats for now – I’m still wishing for a few warm days
) – but yours looks great. I’m still waiting for coconut butter to arrive in the stores here – can’t wait to try it one day!
I had yesterday’s post from you delayed from the RSS but today’s went through just fine
(((coconut butter)))
i know this sounds weird, but i love it when you go to weddings…the photos are always fabulous!
I like that shell technique you’ve got there! Looks delicious as always
oooh coconut butter… that looks delicious! and i haven’t had a problem with delayed RSS feeds on google reader at all.
O wow, I would need to skip yoga to with a SIAB like that.
Just got your morning post in my reader. Although I must admit I still prefer going to a person’s actual blog and enjoying it in it’s full beautiful glory. Google Reader does not do a blogger’s blog posts justice
Do you use coconut oil too?
That coconut shell looks so yummy
Hi Kath! I just wanted to tell you that this morning at 6:20 a.m. when my alarm went off (after I’d already hit the snooze button once!) I *really* did not want to get up for the gym. But I used your old trick — picturing how I’d feel later today if I didn’t go, and picturing how I’d feel trying to go at 5 p.m. on a Friday when my husband and friends were all ready to do fun stuff — and I got right out of bed and went to the gym! Even in my half-asleep state, I knew it was your trick.
Sorry you’ve having computer troubles lately! Beautiful pictures by the way, no clutter whatsoever!
I have to try coconut butter soon. It looks delish.
I remember that Magic Shell stuff!! No doubt the cocunut butter makes a much much healthier and delicious version
I know that I have asked this before and you may or may not have commented back, but I was just wondering where you got you coffee cup with the K on it? I have seen other Bloggers with the cup and I have fallen in love with it!
Anthropologie!
the “magic shell” tutorial is very helpful thank you!
Coconut butter seems like so much fun, haha
Aw, have so much fun visiting with Emily, Casey + the pups! I’ve really been craving a smoothie or SIAB lately but I just can’t stop making oats. I looked at the stove + my vita mix like 5 times today and the stove won. Lunch MUST be a smoothie!!!
i need coconut butter very badly
Can you make a shell with nut butters? Because I can not handle that coconut butter, it’s just awful!
I don’t think you can..
Your SIABs always look so divine. I really love the look of the black and white bowl with your “K” cup, too. Gorgeous photos as always, Kath! Enjoy the rest of your day!
I want some coconut butter sooooo badly!
that smoothie looks great! still am yet to try a siab!
Have fun on your travels and a great wedding weekend!
You’re coming to DC!? Cool, that’s where I am
My blog does delayed RSS feed too, it’s not just you. Google reader needs to wake up!
I always eat my smoothies too fast too. It’s just way too easy to slurp them up!
I had no troubles with your posts showing up in my reader, but I don’t use Google. Seems like the problem lies with them, not you.
I tried a coconut butter shell on my smoothie a few weeks ago and I loved it!
I’ve never tried coconut butter but I love how it hardens! That’s so cool!
LOL! I knew you wouldn’t use the actual “magic shell.” I bet this is tastier anyways.
I love using coconut oil, cocoa powder, and agave as a chocolate shell on ice cream. It’s so tasty and no freaky fats!
looks so tasty!
SIAB looks awesome! I can’t wait to try it next week!
Also, great idea about the hardening Coconut Butter.
Smoothies give me a tummy ache, too! I think it is from the volume.
I love how coconut butter magic shell makes me think of dairy queen’s cherry hardshell
And I also love that it’s a dairy-free way I can reclaim that luxury in life!
What a cool idea to have a coconut butter magic shell.
I discovered your website a few months ago and was completely taken into your world! Going to your blog is a wonderful little break for me during my work day. I love the combinations of food that you picture and describe and it makes me want to try a lot of the things you and Matt are having. I think your site is one of the best out there:)
I’m not a beer drinker but you have made me very curious to want to try the Pumpkin Beer and also to seek out a Great Harvest bread company (which I did find in my area)..Yay!! I plan to go there tomorrow.
Welcome Lynda!
Beautiful breakfast! From the bowl to the coconut butter, I want it all.
Random Q for you–do you have any recommendations for places to find placemats? I’ve always admired your collection, and I am in need of some. I’d appreciate any tips!
Random places like Crate + Barrel
Thanks for the coconut butter magic shell demonstration!! yum
