November 24, 2009

I sure can find enough online "work" to do on my days off. Listing Craig’s list stuff, doing some blog behind-the-scenes work, blogging, and emailing took up my whole morning. No complaints though because that’s the kind of work I love to do!

I set off for the gym a little late – at noon – and biked there on this cold (yes, relative, I know) gloomy day. I did 30 minutes of ellipticalling with Real Simple (found a beef slow-cooker recipe I might try!) and then finished with 10 minutes on the stat bike. Then I biked home wet with sweat, which made me much colder!

It was 2PM by the time I came downstairs all dressed and I was quite hangry!

Smoked salmon to the rescue!!! One of my very favorite foods. This one was wild Alaskan from Trader Joe’s. I used to be a non-wild Alaskan from Harris Teeter that I honestly think tastes better (it’s not as salty as this one) but in my quest for ethical eating, I gotta make good choices.

Homph gomph gomph!!!

Great Harvest bun with ~2 oz salmon, a Laughing Cow and dried dill

Plus my other very favorite food: greek yogurt + granola + pumpkin butter!

More homph gomphs!

I’ve got a conference call at 3PM and some frolicking to do. We’re headed to Karen’s for dinner because Matt‘s brother Andrew is arriving from New Orleans for the holiday!

Hope you worker bees are on your "Friday" soon!

Yum, smoked salmon is one of my favorites, too.

I recently got an iPhone and I’m a little overwhelmed by all of the apps! Would you mind sharing some of your favorite apps?

2 Jo @ SeekingHealthyBalance November 24, 2009 at 2:58 pm

Sometimes I feel like I spend my whole life on the computer between blogging, work and surfing!

Reading this had really made me fancy smoked salmon :)

I love salmon cooked every way EXCEPT smoked! Weird? I went to Alaska during summer 2008 and ate salmon almost every meal. It was just SO good and fresh.

7 Pat November 24, 2009 at 5:34 pm

We Alaskans than you – we love it as well! I have enough frozen and smoked to last til next summer! :)

8 Leianna November 24, 2009 at 3:11 pm

9 megan November 24, 2009 at 3:12 pm

bloggers seem to always have a lot of conference calls…I wonder why that is?

10 Estela @ weekly bite November 24, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I’ve just started to eat more smoked salmon! My favorite way to eat it is the Barefoot Contessa’s Smoked Salmon dip! I LOVE IT! I change up the recipe some and double the salmon! DELISH! Perfect for parties!

11 Traci November 24, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Weird thing to comment on but I love that green spoon!

Wow! I’m a strict vegetarian but those salmon muffins look insane!! :-)

15 Katie November 24, 2009 at 3:17 pm

I’ve been off but been crazy. I’m supposed to be cleaning, but as you can see Im on the blogsphere.

It’s cold and windy and rainy here. No fun and my Ipod died in the last mile of my run. Quite fun 😉

Have fun at dinner! Enjoy your vacay.

16 Erin November 24, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Oo that looks delish! I love that green spoon too, it’s so cute!

17 Emily Eats and Exercises November 24, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Happy Tuesday!

Isn’t it funny how we don’t technically have “jobs” but we are the busiest people I know? Maybe we aren’t getting paid enough!

21 Paige (Running Around Normal) November 24, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Ohhhh, smoked salmon. How I miss thee.

And I’ve only been vegetarian for a week! 😉

Have fun with the fam. I’m from Louisiana– what does your bro-in-law do in New Orleans?

24 Shannon (The Daily Balance) November 24, 2009 at 4:10 pm

LOVE Smoked Salmon – it truly was made for cream cheese — nomnomnom!

Have a fun night with the fam!

25 Paula November 24, 2009 at 4:40 pm

26 Mom November 24, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Save me some salmon! (Please.)

27 lynn (The Actors Diet) November 24, 2009 at 5:03 pm

yeah it’s amazing how time-consuming online work is – what did we do without the internet? no seriously, WHAT?!

28 Deirdre November 24, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I could eat smoked salmon all day. I love how your mom commented!

29 Food Makes Fun Fuel November 24, 2009 at 5:24 pm

Vacations started and it feels like school couldn’t have left me with more work if it tried!

30 Cynthia (It All Changes) November 24, 2009 at 5:47 pm

I understand all the behind the scenes. For my job some people don’t understand all the back work that happens to get church to run for just 2 hours.

You’re salmon decision looks good.

31 candice November 24, 2009 at 7:21 pm

I would never bike in the cold… Just goes to show how dedicated you are to a healthy lifestyle, I guess! 😀 I admire you for your willingness to give up taste to fit your ethical beliefs. Besides, I’m sure a little more of that good bread could offset the saltiness of the salmon… 😉

32 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope November 24, 2009 at 7:45 pm

It’s been so long since I’ve had smoked salmon! Thanks for reminding me… I definitely need to buy some soon. It always tastes SO good on a mini-bagel with cream cheese and cucumbers. Definitely my favorite combination.

33 Lauren November 24, 2009 at 7:49 pm

So true on how the cyber world can consume your entire day! You really do get sucked in and the hours just pass by.

Kath, I came across a recipe tonight and I immediately thought of you. It sounds really good and toatally something that you would dig.
Eating Well’s Kale with Apples & Mustard

Hope you enjoy! :)

34 Kath November 24, 2009 at 9:32 pm

I love how you guys know my style :) Looks great!

35 Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) November 24, 2009 at 8:01 pm

I’ve never had smoked salmon, but I LOVE salmon otherwise. Smoked salmon is very high in sodium and my body reacts so badly to high sodium foods. :(

I couldn’t wait for my birthday — I had to buy a crock pot today! LOL Looking forward to your future recipes. :)

36 skinnyrunner November 24, 2009 at 8:20 pm

good choice on wild salmon! ok maybe for the most selfish reasons ever, but my family commercial fishes in alaska and due to farmed salmon, basically the salmon market has bottomed out bc the price cant compete with cheaper, farmed fish. no money in it and we didn’t even fish salmon last yr bc of the poor price. bummer. anyways…

37 Kath November 24, 2009 at 9:33 pm

:( Glad I can contribute in the smallest way.

38 Light Delight with TouTou November 24, 2009 at 8:30 pm

39 Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) November 24, 2009 at 8:45 pm

40 Kath November 24, 2009 at 9:33 pm

No it’s totally Homer Simpson!!!

41 Tieghan November 24, 2009 at 8:47 pm

Hey Kath!
Getting read to move! It is crazy! Anyway I was wondering brand of Agave Nectar you use? I would like to but some!

42 Kath November 24, 2009 at 9:34 pm

It’s 365 Whole Foods brand – sent to me by Tazo tea with a sample!

43 Naomi(onefitfoodie) November 24, 2009 at 8:47 pm

44 Tammy (Defining Wellness) November 24, 2009 at 9:03 pm

I agree — smoked salmon is the best! One of my all-time favorite meals is a bagel with cream cheese, salmon and lettuce/tomato/cucumber. Kath, have you ever tried kippered salmon? It’s meatier and not as salty and absolutely delicious!

45 Sues November 24, 2009 at 9:07 pm

That smoked salmon looks delicious! Happy Thanksgiving!!! :)

46 Susan November 24, 2009 at 10:51 pm
