You can feel it. You can smell it. We’re getting a real taste of spring today and it tastes SO GOOD!
50* and sunny!!!
Matt and I kicked off the afternoon with a run – and man was it hard! I think I lost some of my running mojo in Montana. I barely made it through 4.8 miles!
Before we left, a date.
Me and my running date talked and talked. It was a good strategy to get him to slow down on the hills!
I loved being alone this past week. I put all my OCD clutter habits in full effect. But I will say, the house feels much more like a home when the husband is here <3
Karen stopped over to say hello and brought over a loaf of the No Knead Bread that has been famous via the NY Times for some time
She has made it a few times now – this one had sunflower seeds throughout. I’m not sure if she used whole grain flour or not – will have to ask.
We all dug in for a taste. It’s great!! SO chewy and yeasty. A bit different than Great Harvest style, but definitely one to have in the rotation of your household!
I could not wait to have a cheese + jam sandwich on a slice for lunch!
Thick slabs of Organic Valley Sharp White Cheddar (my very favorite sandwich cheese!) with GH jam and spinach for color
On the side my staple veg with some of that Whole Foods Red Pepper hummus
A super awesome Harry + David pear
So much delicious!
Enjoyed in the sunshine
Did you know my mom, the author, wrote a picture book about America The Beautiful and Katharine Lee Bates? When you Google Image Search for “Katharine Lee Bates” her book image and website [created by moi!] comes up!
How cool that my name is also Katherine (spelled differently though!) and I’m going to be selling amber waves of grain for a living! I also live amongst beautiful purple mountains.
Time to play!

That no knead bread looks yummy!
That’s neat about your mom’s book! So cool.
I’ll have to look for that organic cheese! It sounds divine.
Very nice to see The HH cookbook there :p well plugged! I’m waiting on my copy to get delivered from Amazon
I love your lunch plate!!
oh that homemade bread looks delicious!
I am kind of confused about what you were trying to say about the book?
I’m confused about why you’re confused?! What do you mean? My comments about name and bakery were just that it’s funny they are coincidences
Awwww, so glad Matt is home!
I’m loving the warmer weather too! I better enjoy for the ice pellets that are forecast start falling
It’s the exact same weather here in Oregon today
I am loving it!
You guys are so lucky that it is 50 degrees! We have about 2 feet of snow here in Michigan.
I wish it smelled like spring here!! It is snowy and blustery, I miss flowers:( You are a lucky duck!
Cool sounding book. And I keep hearing about that bread, I’m going to have to make some of it soon I think.
Oh my gosh, you two are so cute. I love the post-workout sweaty photos. That’s true love right there!
That’s too funny about your mom, her book, Montana, and grains in general. I would say that’s some pretty great foreshadowing right there
FORESHADOWING!! That’s the word I was looking for
I need to make that bread VERY soon…looks so good!
Your mom wrote a book? Very cool! And good job on the run..4.8 is still a feat! Whether it was difficult or not.
This post is torture– I’m not allowed to run right now, and when I see people running or anything associated with running, I get teary- eyed
Despite, I’m glad you had a good time with your hubby. Enjoy your day!
I really enjoyed the warmer weather today! I can’t wait for that to be the trend
Your mom’s website looks great. You did a wonderful job! I think I will have to put down your mom’s books on my xmas list for my nieces and nephews
Thanks – and hope you enjoy them!!
Thanks Emily. I’m looking for a new literary agent and the website Kath created has helped me get some interest!
Mmm that no knead bread looks great! I’ve been meaning to try it. LOVE homemade bread!
Please send your taste of spring here, Kath! It’s going to snow AGAIN on Wed and I’m so OVER IT!
I’ll take some bread, too
Glad Matt is home safely! Enjoy your time!
Just seeing those little buds on the branches gives me hope that maybe, someday, it’ll be spring here too! TRULY loving your photos, and kind of cursing you for sending me that link the other day… I’ve spent hours searching and downloading…
LOVE bread!
What types of foods are the focus for your bakery? Breads? Or more of a dessert type place?
…Uh, please hire me? Will bake for bread!
Bread bread bread – nutty, seed, whole grains plus some specialty breads like Cheddar Garlic. And sweets like cookies, muffins and scones
Cheddar bread…oh dying here…
that lunch looks wonderful! Glad you got to enjoy your time with your hubby!
SO jealous of your nice weather!!! I hope that Karen’s radiation and chemo go well and easy on her. Sending my best wishes!
It’s lovely that you don’t go crazy without Matt there. Hurrah for independence!
We got a taste of spring here today, too! I thought it was just my imagination, glad to know I’m not crazy.
Love fresh baked bread! That sandwich sampling plate looks divine!
Ahhh, that bread looks so good. I’m waiting for dinner to be ready and your pictures are killing me!
I’m so happy you got a taste of spring today! I think they said we reached just above freezing today
, BUT the sun was shining which in my book makes for a happy day
Im obsessed with the no knead bread. I plan to write a post about it this week!
All of you seem to be getting some nicer weather. Here it is nothing but cold and wet
That bread looks fantastic!! Nothing better than home-made
Cheese and jam?! That’s an interesting combo
Glad Matt got home safely! And yay for spring-ish weather!!!!! Hey snow – go away!
It was so warm last week, it felt like summer- but it rained today
I think it’s supposed to go away soon, though. Yay for warm weather!
Best pears ever—my boyfriend’s dad sends them to us every Christmas.
Have you had the Frog Hollows from California!? They are even better!
That No Knead Bread looks delicious! I enjoyed some very Spring-like weather today myself! It got up to 57 degrees! It was great!
the pear looks so good!
It feels like spring here in Charlotte, too! I am LOVING it!!! And I am loving so much that you and Matt run together… I wish my boy could run with me!!! (he has a really bad achilles tendon that prevents him from doing so… le sigh).
what a sexy book that date is sitting on!
I’ve never made bread, so the no-knead sounds perfect for me!
Aw so glad Matt is home! I always enjoy my time by myself too, but home without the Husband is not home!
mmm! i think i’ll have to try your cheese + jam combo finally as i bought some cheddar today…
That lunch looks spectacular!
Glad that Matt’s back with ya
welcome home, matt!
Stop teasing me with this talk of warm weather! It’s still freezing here!
Awwe, you and Matt look so cozy and cute together!!
hahaha, i love the book name tie-in. so awesome that she’s an author!!
and you’ve got me hooked on the jam / cheese combo. my friend’s grandma used to have american cheese and jam english muffin sandwiches when they were little. i thought it sounded ridiculous. and then i tasted it. oh, yes.
We own that book! My husband and I are teachers and must have bought it for teaching in our classrooms! I will have to re-read it!
Thanks for these posts of daily happenings! I love the pictures too! It’s nice to see how others live.
Pamela,
Fun! I wish I knew how to Skype–I could do a Skype author visit!
Barbara
Hehe, I love how your eyes are closed but Matt’s are wide open when you’re kissing
THAT IS SO AWESOME!!

What neat similarities!
I concur with you; can’t wait for full swing SPRING
The first day you walk outside and it feels like spring is my favorite day of the whole year…. The sun is shining and the air is warm- even in the breeze. Hopefully it won’t be long!
Glad your hubby is home
All the food pictures are awesome!
Spring is definitely not showing up anytime soon in my area! 10-16″ of snow predicted for tomorrow!
Also, I made it to the Great Harvest in my town for the first time yesterday! So yummy… we could smell the bread from the parking lot
Jessica
I teach 6th grade music, and we do a unit on American folk/patriotic songs. I will put your Mom’s book on my next-year’s-budget sheets! Thanks!
Ma Fea,
Sadly, the book is out of print but is available from Amazon and other sites that sell used books. Thanks for your interest!
Barbara
Thanks, Mom. I will be digging it up! Would you like me to start a campaign to get it into print again?
Yes, please, start the campaign!
If you do want to use the book, I have some activities on my website:
