To Market To Market

"To buy a fat pig"

Farmer’s market was fun, but a bit rushed.

IMG_1496

The highlight was this pasture-raised pork bacon from Grateful Growers, an old-school (in the good way) farm in Denver, NC. I’m going to use a few slices this week and freeze the rest. It was pricey, but totally worth it for the peaceful mind that comes with supporting this farm.

IMG_1497

When I got home I turned around and left for my run with Stacey and Whit. We ran 5 miles on the Greenway at a nice pace.

We ended up in the Great Harvest / Trader Joe’s shopping center where we said hello to this guy who was just getting off work

A slice of bread makes a perfect post-run snack!

IMG_1500

And then we shopped our way through TJ’s. (I had an old school PB&J sample while there!)

IMG_1501

Once shopped, home, unpacked, and showered, I made lunch. Luckily the bread and PB&J bite tided me over well and I wasn’t too hungry. I finally sat down at 1:30 to this

IMG_1507

Farmer’s market arugula tossed in this homemade dressing of 1 tbsp each of maple syrup, olive oil, and lemon juice, plus a pinch of salt, a tsp of whole grain mustard, and a whole crushed garlic clove that I shook with it and then removed so it wouldn’t be overpowering.

IMG_1503

Topped with 1 slice of Applegate Farms turkey, ~1/4 cup navy beans, some red pepper + zucchini, WALNUTS (which I have been out of for weeks and was totally craving), and gorgonzola.

IMG_1506

FAB.

GUESS WHAT I GOT MY PAWS ON!!! Our friend Kris just bought season 2 and is letting me borrow it!!!! I am actually not that happy with how the end of season 1 is going. It’s rather dark!

Mail time, mail time, MAIL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kristen of Simply Savor had these Amazing No Cook Chocolate Hazelnut Bites at the Summit Bake Sale and I lost the bid. Kristen offered to send me some anyways! She also has a fabulous video with the recipe on her site (which I love – colors, design and content!) Y’all know how much I love hazelnut butter these days.

IMG_1512

Obviously I had one – er two – straight from the container. Fab. You. Luss.

Off to do things.

Fun times tonight are looming!

I probably missed something and am asking a stupid question, but this could be the answer to my troubles – how did you have that bag with you at TJ’s? Did you carry it on your run, and if so, HOW? There are so many times it would be convenient to have a bag and I just can’t figure out a way to run with one.

Happy to see you had a nice run and food shopping experience with friends. I absolutely love grocery shopping (more than regular shopping), but I think I am weird in that I like to go grocery shopping alone. Something about it is so calming and relaxing, and when I have tried to go grocery shopping with friends in the past, it just ruins that whole calming feeling for me. I am so an introvert!!

Oh, and can you possibly come over to my house right now and make me that salad. DROOL!!
