That Time Of The Month

It’s that time…when the basement smells faintly of beer sludge!! Matt brewed while I was in Seattle, and every time I step downstairs I get mild wafts of fermentation. Luckily it’s a smell I somewhat enjoy : )

IMG_2090

I worked ‘till 12 and then went for an hour walk with my book before lunch. Walking and reading is so efficient!

Back at home I filled up on salad. Glad this healthy meal was appealing today! Garden greens with olive oil, honey and salt with cottage cheese, goat cheese and an egg.

IMG_2095

Plus sourdough bread – toasted with butter

IMG_2092

And watermelon!

IMG_2091

I’m feeling much more caught up since returning from my trip – although we’re going away again this weekend for my cousin’s wedding in Baltimore! I’m off to find a dress that fits..

I’m afraid I’d fall flat on my face if I tried to read while walking. I hope you have nice even pavement.

I think I’d be a disaster if I tried to walk and read at the same time, unless I was on a treadmill! I am such a klutz and I’d probably fall flat on my face! Glad you had a lovely walk though! The watermelon looks so sweet and juicy. Just think, soon you’ll be able to enjoy some of the brew in your basement!! 🙂

I’m still so impressed that you can read while walking – I’m certain I would trip and fall flat on my face! Loving all of your garden greens – it really makes me want to try growing my own lettuce. Except I don’t have much of a green thumb at all. Maybe some day! And that sourdough bread looks especially yummy.

Ugh, I’m going out of my mind because I ran out of bread and just haven’t had a chance to get more. The last loaf of bread that I had in the house ended up going stale because I had no idea what to do with it, but now that I have absolutely no bread in the house the first meal ideas that pop into my head are centered around bread. Figures.

It’s the Sailabration here in Baltimore this weekend so there’s tons to do in the Inner Harbor…with tons of traffic to boot! Enjoy Bawlmer, hon! 🙂 http://www.baltimoremagazine.net/features/2012/06/events-for-200th-anniversary-of-the-war-of-1812

I like the smell of fermentation (to an extent). When my komboucha is ready and the vinegary smell permeates, I like it.

I do not think that I could concentrate enough to walk and read. I cannot even read a book in the car because it makes me car sick. So, I wonder if I would feel a little sick if I tried walking and reading.

There’s a lady in my neighborhood who speed walks while reading a book every evening. I really don’t know how she does it. Even my dog looks at her puzzled when she breezes by us on our walks.

I would love to see a video how-to of walking+reading! I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to picture! Also, do you get weird looks from passersby? I think it would make me feel too self-conscious. I remember another time when you brought this up you said your dad does it all the time! So perhaps it’s just your normal! Anyway, I’m obviously fascinated – it seems like a super efficient combo of reading and walking…both of which I love.

Aw, you can totally brew inside your apartment!! It doesn’t take up too much space 🙂 Looks like Kath and Matt do all-grain brewing which is the advanced way to brew and requires an extra step and larger systems that require ventilation, but you can do extract+specialty grain brewing in your kitchen on the stove with just a huge pot for boiling the wort, a fermentor bucket, a few other small supplies you can pick up at a brew shop and a room that stays around 60-70 degrees for the beer to ferment in. It’s really a lot of fun, a minor investment, and you can make some great beers! My husband and I dabble in it – and hope to move up to a system like Matt has someday soon. Its also a fun way to spend time together 🙂

Great title, though I did a double-take given your current status! 😉

I know your dad is the walking/reading guru of the Younger family so I am wondering if maybe the ability is in your genes b/c I’ve actually tried it several times myself w/absolutely no success! Then again, I walk daily for the sole purpose of escapism, so concentrating on the written word during my hikes would sort of defeat my meditative purpose. Still I am envious of the handy skill!

Maybe a video tutorial is in order?! 🙂

Gee, I must be so uncoordinated because I am always tripping on something (a curb, a rug, the steps). I could never walk and read! My sister tripped and broke her foot; my mother, her wrist! I hope you don’t fall while pregnant and have to go into labor in a cast. That would be awful!
I would think being pregnant would put your balance off.
Please be careful. (I sound like your mother). Now, you have given me something else to worry about! Just wait until you are a mother! You will understand what I mean! You will lie away at night wondering, did I cover the baby up, did I remove that toy from his crib, did I put enough diaper ointment on him? Or perhaps too much? Maybe I should go check on him (again). Ha!
