Clouds Get An Attitude

Would you look at that!

IMG_2249Blog

75 to snowfall, just like that. Those moody clouds!

I had planned to have yogurt this morning, but such a shift in temp had me craving oats.

IMG_2248Blog

But instead of the usual, I actually topping my oats with yogurt. This is something that I’ve always considered, but at the end of the day morning I never think that cold yogurt and hot creamy oats go well together.

YoatsBlog

I still don’t really think they do – I ended up eating the yogurt off the top first and then the oats, mixing them minimally, but this was still a delicious bowl.

The Mix

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Splash vanilla
  • 4 thumbprint Lemon Rosemary Biscotti
  • WF organic yogurt, strained
  • Honey Crunch PB

Thanks. I just read another comment – so is strained (plain) yogurt the same thing as Greek Yogurt?

Is it complicated to strain? (maybe it’s on your blog somewhere that I should check out – sorry in advance if so)…or I could just “google”(but that can be hairy at the best of times!)

Oh – I love yogurt and oats together! I actually always put a dollup on top and if I forget and my bowl is basically all done I’m devestated – but only for a moment. 😉 I think I read that having dairy with your oats helps you absorb more of the nutrients – have you heard anything like that? I might be remembering wrong, but in case you’ve heard of a connection, I’d love to hear! Happy teaching – sounds like a fun morning. 🙂

It might have to do with the oxalates in oats. I read that oxalates reduce calcium absorption (I’m guessing this is negligible and not a concern for generally healthy people who eat plenty of calcium) so perhaps the boost of calcium from yogurt is supposed to counter that?

    hi! Im Kath.

I'm a Registered Dietitian, healthy eater, and mom of two from Charlottesville, Virginia. Here you’ll find a healthy mix of real-life meals made from whole ingredients balanced with the pleasures of life, including buttercream frosting and good wine. Plus a sprinkle of nutrition, home life, beauty, parenting, and travel.
