You are here: Home / Weekend / Chickpeas Please!

Chickpeas Please!

I got a lot done this morning – including a video post that will go up while I’m in Bermuda! I have TONS (over 50) guest posts that I’m working on scheduling for the week, so you guys will be entertained 😉

I was ready to hit the gym at 12:30, but since it had been 4 hours since breakfast, I had a snack to tide my lunch hunger another hour or so.

A bit of Chocolate Vanilla Almond Butter between a few kashis and a dried mango. This almond butter is the BEST EVER!!!

IMG_6383 (1024x768)

I biked to the gym in this freezing breezy weather, spent 30 minutes climbing stairs, did 10 minutes of lifting (which was hard with my hurt thumb, so I didn’t get that great of a workout) and biked back home.

Cravings today included chickpeas and spinach!

IMG_6391 (1024x768)

I made a Lemon-Tahini Chickpea Salad with these –

  • ~1/2 a lemon
  • Sprinkle dill, salt + pepper
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 1/2 cup chickpeas

IMG_6384 (1024x768)

Turns out my tahini had gone bad! I bought a kind that was kind of a tahini-hummus hybrid. It was mostly tahini with chickpeas, lemon + salt too. It was all black and moldly about 2 months after opening it 🙁 But luckily Artisana saved the day with their sample size!

IMG_6385 (1024x768)

I mixed the beans and dressing with about 1.5 cups of chopped carrot, cuc, jalapeño, green pepper and zucchini, all served over spinach.

IMG_6389 (1024x768)

IMG_6387 (1024x768)

An apple on the side, which put me over the edge fullness-wise. Too much crunchy produce in one meal!!

IMG_6390 (1024x768)

IMG_6386 (1024x768)

So I ended with a milk chocolate Adora. Not sure which kind I like more! These sure are a fun way to end a meal 🙂

IMG_6392 (1024x768)

We MAY be getting me an iPhone this afternoon. We’re going to see what the damage is. Long-term it won’t cost us anything more because we are essentially replacing Matt’s Blackberry with a text-messaging cell phone (since he’s at the bakery all day and never uses it like he did when he worked in insurance) and getting me the iPhone. But it’s the up front costs that are killer! Crossing my fingers….

Thanks for the head’s up on the upgrades. I think I read that current iPhone users will be able to upgrade their phones, so there are just a few items that are unique to the functionality of the 3G. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it might be too late!

I’ve always wanted an iphone they look so fun!Your salad looks good! I was wondering how long tahini lasts…I bought an organic kind 6 months ago and it been opened and in the fridge, but it looks fine….Just seems like that stuff would go bad.(??)

i always thought you had to keep tahini in the fridge, but the kind i opened recently says no need to refrigerate. do you think it would keep longer if i refrigerated it?

    Guys,
My tahini went bad because it was not true tahini – it had beans, etc. in it. True tahini, as in sesame paste, shouldn’t go back.

    Kath,
I hope you don’t me asking this, but would you please post a couple days worth of meals that you ate during your weight loss period? Ii would help me to get a sense of whay 1200-1600 calories a day looks like. I’m trying to focus on REAL food instead of “fake” processed foods. Thanks for your help.

    Scout ,
I wasn’t blogging during my weight loss, so I don’t have any meals archived. And I also never ate 1200 calories per day – or even less than 1500 thanks to daily exercise. Check the FAQ page to learn more about my NET calories approach. I ate the same way I do now!!

Love your blog! Someone mentioned this a few comments up. But there are rumors that Apple will upgrade their iPhone in June, so it may be better to wait a bit than to get stuck with an older model for a couple years. Just something to consider.
I’ve been eyeing an iPhone for quite some time now. Just patiently (yeah, right) waiting for my Verizon contract to run up…

I love my iphone and am so happy I got it! The new OS they have is pretty slick because right now you can’t send pictures in text messages and getting them is a pain because you have to access a website and enter in a pre-generated code to see them, and its supposed to have that! It is supposedly coming out this summer but nothing official as to a June release, my bro in law at AT&T hasn’t heard anything about it at all so I’m doubtful it will be that soon.

Hmm I threw out some tahini awhile back because I hadn’t used it in ages so I figured it went bad. Maybe I didn’t need to? Does this mean I can actually buy a new jar for the few times a year I make hummus? YAY!

(and if I had an iPhone, I could be in the store and looking up info about the shelf life of tahini. SEE?!? Need one!)

I have the iPhone 3G (the one out right now) and it’s the best thing ever! At first I was afraid I wouldn’t use all of the applications, but trust me YOU DO! They’re extremely handy! And yes, you are correct the iPhone 3G will be eligible – in fact free – for the upgrade in June. So it’s perfectly fine to buy one now.

    Hi Kath,

In any of your classes, have you discussed the reason behind some dieters of the same height being able to eat back their ‘net’ amount of calories due to exercise, as you did, and still lose weight, and those who are like me & can’t go over about 1200 w/ vigorous exercise while dieting or they gain? I know the obvious answer is metabolism, but is there anything else at work here barring a thyroid issue?

I don’t want to seem like I’m trying to compare myself to you excessively I’m just curious – thanks!

    Mary Ponzio,
It’s kind of like a bland nut butter. Not much flavor compared to almond and peanut.

    Elina ,
    Still accepting!

    Amy ,
Yes, metabolism is probably the best answers, but I’d also say that maybe you’re not accurately counting and/or there are other factors in your life that are preventing weight loss too. I wouldn’t assume it’s metabolism without checking with an R.D. who can evaluate your whole lifestyle.
