Water Therapy

June 28, 2010

If floating around in a pool burns calories, then I got a GREAT workout this afternoon!!! 😉 😉

I had those anxiety chest pains all day today. I think it was just the stress of moving on top of going back to work and having my own floors and all. The day went well, but I couldn’t shake the feeling.

When I got home I received a great shoulder massage from Matt that took ALL the pains away. Then I decided that water therapy was much more appropriate than an elliptical in an air conditioned gym.

To the pool we went!

I prepared a Gin+Tonic – MINUS the gin! Just tonic, lime and a splash of bitters.

I studied for my presentation tomorrow and then we splashed around for a while.

The crew made dinner while I packed my lunch for tomorrow and blogged.

I found a lovely windowsill that served well for a blogging station!

1 out of 3 features were these mushroom raviolis that Karen found at EarthFare.

Matt microwaved some potatoes to soften them and then pan-seared them in Garlic Gold (in fact, I think everything in this dinner was seasoned with Garlic Gold!) and some dried dill. They were awesome!

And lastly, we steamed up some kale (drizzled in Garlic Gold..) with carrots and topped with a few goat cheese crumbles.

A little piece of Great Harvest Rosemary Garlic toast also made it onto my plate.

I’m still feeling a little hungry – ’bout to go make a dent in this water therapy!!

Have a good night folks!

I just love that cover up! That pool looks super relaxing and beautiful.

2 Jenny June 28, 2010 at 7:32 pm

That’s such a pretty dress! A little relaxation never hurt anyone;)

3 Samantha June 28, 2010 at 7:34 pm

I wish you were going to still be in Charolette on Aug 16th…I’d love to meet you. We’re passing through on our way to Cancun:)

4 Sarah June 28, 2010 at 7:34 pm

I’m doing a summer internship as a hospital chaplain this summer and I get those same anxious feelings when I’m on call! I hate being alone and dealing with multiple calls at once and feeling completely incompetent in times of tragedy. I’m sure that massage helped – I try to remind myself to continue to take deep breaths to make it through the day. Good luck!

5 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) June 28, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Just downed a huge chunk of watermelon…just the hydration and sweet I needed post-salty-din din.

Breathe, Kath, breathe. Your stuff is secure in a pod and you can just enjoy being a guest now. 4 more days of work right?

6 lynn (The Actors Diet) June 28, 2010 at 7:36 pm

sorry about the chest pains! glad you are feeling better and taking care of yourself.

7 Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf June 28, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Yay for a pool! I’m excited to finally get to take advantage of our community pool this weekend. :) I don’t plan on doing anything purposely “aerobic.” Just frolicking around!

8 Krystina June 28, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Mmm, I want watermelon.

9 Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! June 28, 2010 at 7:40 pm

water therapy works! also: watermelon therapy :)

10 Estela @ Weekly Bite June 28, 2010 at 7:42 pm

I love laying around at the pool! Hope you get some rest tonight!

11 Brynne June 28, 2010 at 7:46 pm

I love dill potatoes! Mushroom ravioli and goat cheese aren’t bad either 😉

12 Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ June 28, 2010 at 7:47 pm

Cute dress. I like the idea of microwaving the potatoes first to soften them. I have such a hard time cooking any kind of potato.

13 christina cadden June 28, 2010 at 7:49 pm

Love water therapy!

14 Ashley@thehungryscholar June 28, 2010 at 7:52 pm

I love your dress. Too cute!

Love being pool side!

15 Kaz June 28, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Gorgeous dress! Definitely take some time for yourself. I’m glad you were able to unwind a bit today.

16 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) June 28, 2010 at 7:59 pm

You look relaxed by the pool! Sorry for the stress, but I am glad you got a little time to relax tonight! Enjoy the rest of your evening!

17 Lauren June 28, 2010 at 8:06 pm

So jealous that you have a nice pool at your disposal. I would be getting some serious use out of that thing!

18 Callie June 28, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Laying around the pool seems to make everything better… glad you got time to relax after all that moving. :)

19 A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) June 28, 2010 at 8:10 pm

Watermelon! I’m thinking about becoming a member of food buzz, what are the pros and cons? Any help would be appreciated.

20 Mary Frances June 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Kath & Matt,
Congratulations on beginning your next chapter. Wow… looks like you’re living at a resort–very swanky! Enjoy it–you deserve it. Wanted to wait a couple of days to send so you weren’t too overloaded with comments during such a whirlwind of moving. Looks like your family and friends are real professional moving engineers. I am sure settlement will go fine, but it sure will feel great to have that behind you and be relaxing at the beach. LOL

21 Laura (Starloz) June 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm

cute dress & lovely pool. being a city girl, i havent seen huge pools & backyards for ages!

22 Mary @ Bites and Bliss June 28, 2010 at 8:15 pm

That’s my kind of workout!! 😉

23 Jessica @ The Process of Healing June 28, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Your dinner sounds soooo good and full of delicious veggies!

24 foodandfarm June 28, 2010 at 8:27 pm

i am always amazed at the ways you are able to come up with meat-less dinners… if only i were so creative! watermelon is a wonderful thirst quencher/dessert in the summer!

25 Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy June 28, 2010 at 8:34 pm

I absolutely think swimming is a form of therapy!

I hope things calm down and you’re able to relax soon! Moving is stressful enough without career/school stuff thrown on top!

26 Kaci Higgins June 28, 2010 at 8:35 pm

I love your dress! Where did you get it?!
Floating around in the pool or lake definitely counts as a workout which I love because I do that often. 😉
I’m sure the chest pains & stress is super normal, but YOU CAN DO IT! Just take everything a little at a time. My Dad always says, “Don’t sweat the small stuff, & remember, it’s all small stuff.”. :)

27 Heather June 28, 2010 at 8:42 pm

that pool looks so refreshing!

28 Lisa @bakebikeblog June 28, 2010 at 8:44 pm

What a gorgeous summery dress!!!!

29 Sims June 28, 2010 at 8:50 pm

your dress looks like a moo moo that a 300 lb woman would wear. Come on, live a little.. show some skin..

30 emily June 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm

Are you trying to spell the word mumu? I think what’s special about your comment is how you managed to insult more than one group of people, all at once.

31 Wei-Wei June 28, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Man, Sims… you gotta watch what you say here. There are people trying to lose weight (not that I’m one of them) but please don’t stereotype.

32 Becky June 29, 2010 at 5:45 am

Um, yikes. I don’t think it’s a dress, I think it’s a beach/pool cover up. It’s supposed to be comfortable, not seductive!

33 Faith @ LovelyAsCharged June 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Can I just have your whole dinner? Please? Even though I didn’t have the intense pool-floating workout you did to refuel from? 😉

34 kalli@fitandfortysomething June 28, 2010 at 9:23 pm

what a great day and you look so relaxed!

35 Camille June 28, 2010 at 9:36 pm

Dinner looks fabulous dahling (said in a Southern Drawl)

36 Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] June 28, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Cute cover-up! Hope your presentation goes well…

37 Diana @ frontyardfoodie June 28, 2010 at 9:50 pm

I hope that pool helped! Love the dress and you should totally get a smaller version of that umbrella for a hat because it would look SO cute on you.

38 Kath June 29, 2010 at 5:51 am

39 Jodie June 28, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Love the dress. A question for you, if a recipe calls for 1 stick of butter, what is a good replacement to cut down on the calories and fat? Thanks.

40 Kath June 29, 2010 at 5:51 am

Use less butter? Use whipped butter? Use 1 stick and eat less of the finished product?

41 Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter June 28, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Water therapy is great! Matt is just such a great husband for giving you a shoulder rub.

42 Hannah June 28, 2010 at 10:19 pm

Those potatoes look divine! And I tried kale for the first time ever yesterday – so good! I was going to make your kale chips but I thought it’d stretch further if I made a kale and seaweed salad, but then I ate it all in one go anyway, so that defeated the stretching-out purpose! 😛

43 Megan June 28, 2010 at 10:20 pm

I love your dress. It’s really cute.

I get those anxiety chest pains too. I had them all last week. I think it must have been the week for moving because I did it that as well and it’s so stressful. Let’s hope it’s a better week for both of us and life gets back to a normal pace. :)

44 Jackie (Peaces of Earth) June 28, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Water therapy cures all. I hope it made you feel at least a little better!!

45 Ashley June 28, 2010 at 10:46 pm

Take it easy girl!!! Glad you got some relaxation time in…love those sunglasses :)

46 Wei-Wei June 28, 2010 at 10:50 pm

I guess that would be water therapy! I hope you’re having fun relaxing :) Oh, and your Garlic Gold’d dinner looks deliiiiicious!

47 Marina June 28, 2010 at 11:02 pm

That dress is so nice! Looks really comfy.
Oh how I would love to have a pool in my house, to lounge there all day, reading, swimming…amazing

48 The Wife of a Dairyman June 29, 2010 at 12:03 am

Dinner looks great and so does that pool! How relaxing :)

49 Kerri June 29, 2010 at 12:13 am

I think I have the same glasses in pink. Kohl’s?

50 Kath June 29, 2010 at 5:51 am

Forever 21!

51 Freya @ Brit Chick Runs June 29, 2010 at 2:28 am

You look so sophisticated in your poolside clothing! Like one of those fancy women from a 60s film, with the umbrella etc. Love it!
Good luck in your presentation today :)

52 Vicky June 29, 2010 at 2:32 am

Some quality time at the pool sounds wonderful. Can’t wait till I get home to do that as well! And I love your dress! So cute!
