Ice is beautiful
And dangerous!!!!!
Growing up Southern, I know to be scared of ice. We had some major ice storms in Hillsborough that took out trees and power for days – one time we lost power for 5 days. But still, very pretty!
On this chilly day I had a bowl of cereal! Cheerios Morning O’s with blueberries, blackberries and banana plus sunflower butter and milk. Faith brought me these beautiful blackberries yesterday!
Steaming mug of hot coffee!!
D-licious. Today seems like a great day for a Dave Farmar podcast. Not sure I want to walk in the drizzle this morning. Crank up the space heaters!

ahhh beautiful! i hate driving in snow and ice but i love looking at it from inside my warm living room.
northern utah’s winter is very mild this year and we’ve hardly gotten any snow. it’s raining like crazy outside right now, but i sure wish it were snowing!
UVa sorority rush is today, meaning that the ice is nottt beautiful right now.
Look out for hundreds of girls in high heels!
Hahaha – heels in this weather!?
The girls at my university would wear heels on formal mondays no matter what the weather was! We did have steam heated side walks but those were only a fraction of the pathways. I was always impressed. I went to school in northern idaho…plenty of snow.
It is a blanket of snow here in PA. Can’t wait until all our bread delivery trucks are safely back in our driveway. I feel so bad when the drivers have to deal with snow and ice.
You breakfast looks like art. I love the way berries photograph. I bought myself a nice pack of organic blackberries yesterday. The were good, but two weeks ago I got some a TJ’s that were amazing.
Ice is beautiful!!! If it ever came to LA people would freak. Nobody knows how to drive in rain as is.
What a good friend Faith is- bringing over those berries! Mmmmm! …..Ice is beautiful, I agree but you have to be *so* careful! Have a great Saturday!
Snow here today, too! I’m definitely staying in for some toasty yoga!
Those blackberries look beautious! Have a great day, Kath!
I am SO glad that I was able to wake up to snow this morning! It isn’t much in my neck of the woods (only about 2 inches) but it’s nice! I’m a self-proclaimed “cold weather hater” so in my opinion the only reason it should be cold is if it is snowing.
Bet the coffee tasted especially good on this cold day!
Ok, so……what is that tall, silver structure in the second picture, is it a southern thing? I’m clueless in the North??? It’s pretty but WHAT is it? Gimme a hint :/
Not a gutter but a downspout. Gutters run horizontally and collect rain from the roof. Downspouts carry the gutter water vertically down to the ground
wah wah
Your breakfast looks beautiful! I think I need some new bowls.
I’ve been thinking the same thing…all of my bowls are very simple and white. I’m planning to go to Pier 1 this weekend to invest in some COLOR! Thanks for the inspiration, Kath
i was going to ask what in the world all those silver cups were doing outside but then i read the other comments.
Hey Kath!
I just wanted to comment today and say how much I love your blog. I’ve been reading since the summer and thoroughly enjoy all of your posts and recipes! My special reason for commenting today is that yesterday I got into University of Virginia after applying Early Action. I am so excited and plan to come visit Charlottesville very soon! My dad and I plan on going hitting up all of your recommended places and bakery on our trip!!! Thanks for being awesome!
Congrats Molly!!!! Hope you will love it here too
Woke up to a beautiful sunny day with big snowflakes fluttery down…dragged a comfy chair into my kitchen to sit in comfort and warmth with a cup of coffee and the Saturday paper…perfect! Ice always scares me…especially as a runner. Love the colour combo of your breakfast…it looks so fresh!
Love Dave Farmar! Another good one is Philip Urso (also in iTunes).
Thanks for the recommendation!
We got about an inch of snow (with ice on top) here. The poor kids have been looking forward to seeing some snow all winter and are outside trying to sled on what is there (which isn’t much- but more than what you got). We lost power once in an ice storm about 9 years ago- right after I graduated college and was living at home. It was horrible- power was out for 5 days and it was freeeeezing. I get chills just thinking about it!
The bowl of cereal and fruit and other goodies looks delicious!
I’ll never forget the ice storm of ’96 in NY that gave us a whole entire week off school. I loved ice back then
I am loving the blueberries in season. Nice touch with the morning O’s. But I have heard that there are PB Cheerios lurking out there to be tried.
While the ice is beautiful, I bet its a bit chilly out there. We So. Cali’s are just starting to get our winter with a bit of rain in the forecast. Its about time.
Thanks for the title! Now that song is stuck in my head for today! LOL
Those berries are so gorgeous! Too bad it’s winter- now I’m craving fresh berries.
It’s snowing like the dickens here too! I’m also planning a nice yoga session and the fireplace is cranked up high
Stay warm over there friend!
we got ice storms all the time growing up in Kansas City, I loved them because it was so beautiful and occasionally we’d get the day off! Haha it took a lot for my school to have a school day
Decided to make your oatmeal for myself this morning – used quick (5 minutes) Irish steel cut oats, and added half a banana half way thru and then chia seeds and almond butter (fresh from whole foods). It was scrumptious! Thanks for making my frozen morning at home delicious
So glad Chris!
I’m on a blackberry kick lately. They have been making frequent appearances in my smoothies. Yum!*
The fruit looks beautiful! Lovely Color
We just got our first snow storm in NYC today, definitely heater time!
ice is beautiful! what a crisp picture. i just got lightroom and i’m having so much fun playing with it
This is totally unrelated to this post, but I sneezed when I was driving this morning (snowy today but not icy in upstate NY!) and I instantly thought of you. I had to come and report back that I instinctively put my foot on the brake during my sneeze. Phew! (I mean, Achoo?)
Haha. Glad things were OK!
Your bowl of cereal is beautiful with those berries! I don’t know what it is because I’m normally an oatmeal girl, but now that the weather is really starting to get cold, I’ve been so into cold cereal! So confusing, haha!
Me too!? I wonder if we’re not drinking enough water because it’s so cold and waking up thirsty for milk?
I am still so scared of ice! Hope you guys stay safe and warm this Saturday!
I’m so happy it finally snowed! It’s beeeautiful
I normally cringe when I see snow b/c it just makes me cold looking at it, but your first two pics are just beautiful. So light and lovely.
And then, the blue and blackberries. YUM! Two of my fave berries.
YES, very pretty but oh so dangerous! I slipped yesterday–=but didn’t fall.
Pretty bowl of berries!
Your breakfast screams summer- yum!
The DC area got a pretty snowy ice blanket overnight too! We cranked up the heat and are keeping warm
I literally freaked out and started spazzing about the freshly fallen snow. Never seen it before!
just discovered your blog. i’m a fellow cville blogger and RD… and loved waking up to the lovely ice-covered outside today too (although your icy days seems more relaxing than the one i spent caring for my sweet, feverish son
). so glad to find your lovely blog. (and if you’re interested in joining our recipe redux, then let me know. we just posted today.)
Hey Gretchen! Nice to meet you!
Your gutter bells look like they have ice on them.
Those are wonderful looking blackberries!
