Waking In A Winter Wonderland

Ice is beautiful

IMG_5046Blog

And dangerous!!!!!

IMG_5047Blog

Growing up Southern, I know to be scared of ice. We had some major ice storms in Hillsborough that took out trees and power for days – one time we lost power for 5 days. But still, very pretty!

IMG_5056Blog

IMG_5052Blog

On this chilly day I had a bowl of cereal! Cheerios Morning O’s with blueberries, blackberries and banana plus sunflower butter and milk. Faith brought me these beautiful blackberries yesterday!

IMG_5050Blog

Steaming mug of hot coffee!!

IMG_5053Blog

D-licious. Today seems like a great day for a Dave Farmar podcast. Not sure I want to walk in the drizzle this morning. Crank up the space heaters!

ahhh beautiful! i hate driving in snow and ice but i love looking at it from inside my warm living room. 🙂 northern utah’s winter is very mild this year and we’ve hardly gotten any snow. it’s raining like crazy outside right now, but i sure wish it were snowing!

The girls at my university would wear heels on formal mondays no matter what the weather was! We did have steam heated side walks but those were only a fraction of the pathways. I was always impressed. I went to school in northern idaho…plenty of snow.

It is a blanket of snow here in PA. Can’t wait until all our bread delivery trucks are safely back in our driveway. I feel so bad when the drivers have to deal with snow and ice.

You breakfast looks like art. I love the way berries photograph. I bought myself a nice pack of organic blackberries yesterday. The were good, but two weeks ago I got some a TJ’s that were amazing.

I am SO glad that I was able to wake up to snow this morning! It isn’t much in my neck of the woods (only about 2 inches) but it’s nice! I’m a self-proclaimed “cold weather hater” so in my opinion the only reason it should be cold is if it is snowing. 😛

Bet the coffee tasted especially good on this cold day! 😀

Ok, so……what is that tall, silver structure in the second picture, is it a southern thing? I’m clueless in the North??? It’s pretty but WHAT is it? Gimme a hint :/

🙂 It’s a rain chain! Aka, a gutter. Not southern, but yes modern. The rain trickles down it and it’s more attractive than a plastic gutter

Not a gutter but a downspout. Gutters run horizontally and collect rain from the roof. Downspouts carry the gutter water vertically down to the ground

    Hey Kath!
I just wanted to comment today and say how much I love your blog. I’ve been reading since the summer and thoroughly enjoy all of your posts and recipes! My special reason for commenting today is that yesterday I got into University of Virginia after applying Early Action. I am so excited and plan to come visit Charlottesville very soon! My dad and I plan on going hitting up all of your recommended places and bakery on our trip!!! Thanks for being awesome!

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day with big snowflakes fluttery down…dragged a comfy chair into my kitchen to sit in comfort and warmth with a cup of coffee and the Saturday paper…perfect! Ice always scares me…especially as a runner. Love the colour combo of your breakfast…it looks so fresh!

We got about an inch of snow (with ice on top) here. The poor kids have been looking forward to seeing some snow all winter and are outside trying to sled on what is there (which isn’t much- but more than what you got). We lost power once in an ice storm about 9 years ago- right after I graduated college and was living at home. It was horrible- power was out for 5 days and it was freeeeezing. I get chills just thinking about it!
The bowl of cereal and fruit and other goodies looks delicious! 🙂

I am loving the blueberries in season. Nice touch with the morning O’s. But I have heard that there are PB Cheerios lurking out there to be tried. 🙂

While the ice is beautiful, I bet its a bit chilly out there. We So. Cali’s are just starting to get our winter with a bit of rain in the forecast. Its about time.

Decided to make your oatmeal for myself this morning – used quick (5 minutes) Irish steel cut oats, and added half a banana half way thru and then chia seeds and almond butter (fresh from whole foods). It was scrumptious! Thanks for making my frozen morning at home delicious 🙂

This is totally unrelated to this post, but I sneezed when I was driving this morning (snowy today but not icy in upstate NY!) and I instantly thought of you. I had to come and report back that I instinctively put my foot on the brake during my sneeze. Phew! (I mean, Achoo?)
