No signs of Fall here……
Or are there?
My fruit bowl:
Mid-morning snack: apple season!
Mentions of plaid and back-to-school shopping
And pumpkin bread on the menus!
AND, and…..look at the weekend forecast!!!
I biked downtown today to have lunch with my new friends Abby and Anna who are both starting as dietetic interns next week. We talked internship expectations and I gave them some of the materials I made during my internship to take with them.
We dined at Eppie’s, one of my fav lunch spots right on the mall. And despite the 97* outside, we ate al fresco just so we could bask in the sunshine
Santa Monica Salads for THREE! We each got the same thing.
This is one of the best salads in town, and I was in a chicken mood today. It’s a base of spinach with corn, tomato, goat cheese, DATES, champagne dressing [that is out of this world]
And a mini pumpkin loaf! Clearly the best part.
BYO water!
Workout part I today was biking there and back (~30 minutes round trip) and I’m going to do it again in a bit as we go pick up some farmer’s market veggies.
Once I got home, I realized Matt’s car was gone and I was locked out.
So I hung out with the Pea Family
And wondered how long I’d have to wait to get some water on this hot day.
Lightbulb! The hose!
[This shot was harder than it looks
]
Ahhhh
And a swung until Matt came home. Only about 15 minutes later.
We just concluded a conference call for Great Harvest and are gearing up to get those veggies!

It is 95 here today, too. I’m not a fan of the heat and just craving Fall. But on Saturday it is supposed to be 68!
Wow it’s hot where you are, crikey!!! It was about 75 here today and everyone was going ‘ooohh it’s so HOT today’ and at the weekend just gone, people were on the beach ‘basking in the heatwave sun’ according to the paper….haha, bless england
Bad luck on getting locked out – that sucks!!
i can’t wait til i get my first fall apple! so amazing…that and pumpkins really make me happy
It’s hot here today too, but that doesn’t stop me from getting excited about autumn. I wrote a post about my love for September today.
http://lisasfoods.wordpress.com/2010/09/01/eight-reasons-why-im-happy-for-september-2/
Love that the lunch came with a mini pumpkin loaf. I’d love to own a little cafe or coffee shop one day, and sell meals like that.
I’m so excited for fall veggies…. our CSA Farmer told us that the fields are FULL of winter squash!!!
I’ve yet to crack my first (can of) pumpkin this year (well since the spring anyway) but it will be soon. Very soon.
I can’t believe it’s Sept. already! It’s so weird not to have school to look forward to!
I’m so jealous of your porch swing. That’s going to be a requirement at our next house.
Yum..pumpkin. I still can’t find it around here!
Sounds like a nice afternoon. Glad things are getting to normal there and life feels good for you! Have fun getting veggies!
It’s a hot one here, too! And it’s been so cool the past few days. Glad to see it’s gonna cool down some more for you soon!
I’m looking forward to the weekend weather in Ky too! I’m definitely wanting some pumpkin bread now!
loveee porch swings. I’m way jealous
I just bought some amazing bread from Great Harvest. Spinach & Feta and some dakota for some killer sandwiches
It’s cold and rainy here in Oregon. Speaking of pumpkin, I had a tasty sample of a pumpkin muffin with cream cheese frosting from Starbucks. And pumpkin spice lattes are back, so excited!
Love that you drank hose water. When I was a kid I LOVED the taste of hose water versus sink water. Weird, it was probably grossness in my parent’s hose, but it somehow tasted / smelled like summer!
Laura
it was about 92 here today. yuck! fall, come on please!!
I LOVE porch swings!
I am so getting excited for fall… the SMELL of October, the pumpkins, the scarves and boots!
Please blow some of that cool air south. I think we’re all ready for Fall.
Found your blog via a fb post about OpenSky by a fellow Davidsonian (I’m C’03)…and a few more steps. I live in Cville and would love to know where your shop is going to be. I’m not well linked in to the community (a grad student at UVa) but if there’s anything I can do to help get the word out about your business please let me know! Hope to see you around town.
Hey Patten! Store should open next spring if things go well. Let me know if you ever want to get together!
I’m going with a group of friends to Veritas Starry Nights next weekend (Sept 11). You and your husband should come! We just get lawn seats (tix at the door) and bring picnic food and listen to music. http://www.veritaswines.com/events.php#starrynights e-mail me if that sounds good and we can work out the details. patten.mahler@gmail.com
I would love to go to Veritas – love that place. But we’re going to Top Of The Hops that day!
ah, yes. you do have to choose between beer and wine that day. well, some other time then!
A hot day to get locked out. That’s funny you filled up your water bottle with the hose. You’re lucky you didn’t get drenched!
I love the signs of Fall, it’s my favorite season! Something about root veggies, foilage, and scarfs make me super happy. That chicken salad with dates looks outstanding!
This heat is definitely not fall-like but I am sure that after a few months I will be missing this summer weather!!
I feel like I’m the only one who loves this weather
It’s hot, but I love summer and I’m sad to see it go!! Definitely looking forward to pumpkin bread though!!
Ugh, it is hot here in MN too! Not quite 90 degrees though
Champagne dressing sounds amazing, I think you should try making it at home (and sharing it with all of us, bwahahahaha!)
I’ve read that you shouldn’t drink the water from your hose as the material of the hose esp when it is hot is not meant to be consumed.
FYI – be careful drinking from water hoses! Many of them are made from PVC, which can contain lead. I bought two hoses when we moved into our new house, and both labels said never to drink from the hose!
I am incredibly jealous you have such a pretty porch swing.
You are lucky Kath!
I was JUST, as in less than 5 minutes ago, telling my husband about all the mentions of fall in blogland and how it was almost 100 here today! I am ready for fall, I have had enough of this heat!
It’s pretty warm here today too!! I keep hoping and praying for fall to come ASAP.
The salad looks delicious. I am glad to know that I am not the only one who brings waterbottles to restaurants sometimes
I know, it’s SO hot here too…but the weatherman says that fall is right around the corner!
I loved drinking hose water as a kid! Even though summer is almost finished (*tear*), I’m excited for fall because it means tons of pumpkin and butternut squash!
Looks like you are in store for a beautiful weekend!
Mmmm, there is really a place on earth that serves pumpkin bread with their salads? That’s awesome!!
All salads should be required to come with pumpkin bread. I hope this restaurant starts that trend right now. It looks so juicy and moist.
just as a heads up

Fall is my favorite season and I can’t wait until pumpkin everything comes back! Love it!
I love your butternut squash in your fruit bowl.
So excited for fall.
The pumpkin loaf looks amazing by the way! I can’t wait to start using pumpkin in everything and anything again.
I wish you really had hung with the Pea Family. And I wish you’d bring some pumpkin with you. If I don’t find some soon, I’m going to start scooping it out of pies in the bakery.
its in the 90s here in Raleigh too! I just want to drink my pumpkin spice drink in a long sleeve tee and a scarf. it’s too bad that I drank it today iced because it’s 97 outside. boo.
I’m so jealous of your pumpkin bread haha
And the weather is totally un-fall-ish here too! It was like 98 degrees outside today! They say it’s supposed to get into the 80′s this weekend, but we will see about that. I went running on McAlpine greenway this evening and the water was all dried up
I hope we at least get some rain soon!
So jealous of your heat! It rained all day here in Seattle yesterday and is in the low-70s today. I’m not ready for Fall – we barely had summer here!
RE. HOSE: This was an emergency! I will not drink from the hose on an ongoing basis
Oh that pumpkin loaf looks delicious!
It’s hurricane weather here in Shanghai… we had school off yesterday! That mini pumpkin loaf is too cute. And I can’t wait for fall right now… but it’s rainy and gloomy outside.
Oh my, that salad looks tasty! And the pumpkin bread!! Yum.
It’s hotter than blazes here and we’re all preparing for this epic storm… ugh. Can’t wait for cooler weather! I can actually DO stuff outside again
Locked out? Next stop: the key cutting station at the hardware store! But on a nice day like today it’s almost fun to be locked out.
Ohhhhhh, that was my favourite salad at Eppie’s too! You’re killing me! I’ll just have to recreate it…
That salad looks so good!!
It’s supposed to be hot tomorrow but by Friday in the 70′s! Is it sad that makes me a little sad? heh
Sounds like you had a nice relaxing day:)
It is Spring here – and my count down to summer has officially begun!! I cant wait!
Holy cow that’s hot! Oregon already seems to be in fall as it is cold and rainy here.
I can’t believe it goes from 95 there to 75, that’s crazy. Enjoy the best of both worlds.
I am NOT ok with August already being gone, when it still feels like I should still be enjoying June… but such is summer. So excited for the new temps this weekend. It’s so much better than the 95 degrees we keep having and the possible hurricane brewing around! Also, I am too jealous of that little pumpkin loaf.
That is how the weather is in California, too. But the leaves are still falling to the ground and crunching under my feet!
I really want to try that champagne dressing!
Despite the outrageous temperatures lately I still enjoy eating outside. There is something relaxing and peaceful about being outside and I know in the next few weeks it is going to get a little to chilly to do so!
Those salads look killer
This makes me want to hunt down a restaurant that serves pumpkin bread around here!
I’m looking forward to a similar weekend forecast — should make for some lovely biking! We harvested a bunch of winter squash from our garden — definitely signs of fall <3
Dyin’ for that chicken salad right now; that looks amazing…..I’m droolin’
Do you have a post that explains how to make overnight oats? I don’t understand…do you cook them before putting them in the jar? The idea of having an instantaneous breakfast waiting for me in the morning sounds heavenly!
Yup – instructions: http://www.katheats.com/?page_id=3889
No cooking necessary! The oats just soak
