I have been all over the place on foot today! Great because it was a non-workout workout but tough because it is SO WINDY and cold outside! I’m estimating total miles at 7.5!
My day started with a walk to the bakery and back. I always tell myself before I get there that I’m not hungry and there’s no reason to eat any sweets. But then we always have something new to try!!
Today it was Strawberry Muffins aka Cupcakes = Muffcakes. I tried a piece from the breadboard and they were incredible!!
Then I luckily got to run into 3 of Matt’s fraternity brothers who came in for a visit! Jeb, Steve + Brian.
Back home, I showered up and munched on an apple for blood sugar morning sickness snack #2 to tide me to our late lunch.
Smart Kitchen Sarah just moved back to Cville after 18 months away (she moved away when I got here!) She is such a go-getter!! She organized a lunch at Feast for VA bloggers (and brought us all tiny personalized jars of homemade nut butter!
Our group included Richmonders and Cvillians
Brittany, Gabby, Lauren, Kristin, me, Faith, Liz, Jess, Alex and Sarah
I decided on the Margherita Panini – for the cheese!!
Plus a side of fruit
Which I topped with Sarah’s peanut butter!
Lauren brought us Gherharts chocolates!!
Had the Mint Julep for dessert
And Brittany brought Heady Goo Balls – a kind of mashed up larabar-style treat filled with honey and Amazing Grass!
After lunch I walked Brittany and Lauren back to our house where Matt was entertaining their fiancées with beer.
We stopped for a latte on the way back!
Then, when I realized everyone had to walk back to Feast to get their cars, we walked BACK (another mile) and I picked up some meat from the Organic Butcher that I didn’t get to grab earlier and walked the mile back home with 5 pounds of meat in my purse! It was quite the walking day!
I’m enjoying some hot tea now and making evening plans.

It makes me smile see a supportive group of passionate, talented women. Especially ones who love food like I do! Way to go ladies- I’ll have to check out your corners of the web!
I hope you were wearing comfy shoes!
I was – and I changed into ugly tennis shoes for the second hike!
So disappointed I couldn’t make it like I thought I would be able to but it looks like you all had a great time. If it happens again, I’ll definitely have to join in! VA is definitely for bloggers!
Please send me one of those muffins out here in the land of no Great Harvests for hundreds of miles!
Thanks for taking us on a walking tour of Cville!
Come back when it’s warm!! We’ll start the tour with beer on the porch
What a fun of afternoon! I really need to do more walking; it’s one of my favorite things and a reason why I love living in cities.
So much fun to see you today! I, too, needed a mug of tea as soon as I finally made it home.
[We spent WAY too much time perusing goods in Feast and making purchases at The Spice Diva after y'all left!]
Wheee!
That Spice Diva is a good saleswoman! I always leave with much more than I planned on!
I could go for a warm latte in my hands right now!
Or a cold trappist.
Either one.
Great way to spend your Saturday. What a healthy looking bunch of gals!
What a fun day Kath!! I think it’s so fun when bloggers can get together.
I’m sure you’re baby appreciates all the walking.
So great to meet you! Minus the fact that my eyes are half closed…that’s a pretty cute picture.
I’m sorry we didn’t get to talk personally!! Hopefully at the next one
Definitely! Sarah needs to organize another meet up in Richmond
I feel like such an outlier over here in Harrisonburg! I might be in Richmond or Charlottesville next year though depending on my RD match
Email Sarah so you can get on the list!!
Will do…thanks!
Oh girl I feel you on waiting for RD matches. I just submitted my DICAS application yesterday!
the muffin-cakes look tasty! but i think you might have some teenaged boys snickering at the hybrid name!
i thought the same thing!
teenage boys nothing…I snickered at the name!
Wait, is muffcake some kind of obscene term!?!?
A muff is a slang term for a vagina, so yeah, kinda.
Oh dear, I had no idea! Guess we’ll just call them muffins with benefits?
hahaha, that’s cute.
haha love that…I thought it was a little dirty too (maybe it’s just my mind!).
You are a trooper for walking so much when it’s so cold and WINDY! I’m far away, but it sure is windy here too! I took my run to the treadmill today, not willing to face it
What a fun meet up! Feast sounds like a yummy cafe. Love the emphasis on local!
Looks fun and tasty! I really wished I could reach through the screen and eat some of that chocolate! I’m super impressed that you’re walking so much when it’s so cold and windy. I always chicken out of outdoor activity when it’s below freezing.
I have a really warm Land’s End down coat – it makes all the difference!
yumm looking the looks of all the bakery eats and treats! my husband and i actually stopped in a GH today for lunch in rexberg, idaho (the boonies) on our way from a little roadtrip we had to make. made me think of you!
muffcakes sound good, but slightly…”dirty.”
That’s a ton of walking, but also a lot of great goodies from the meet up! How sweet of them to bring things!
Sarah’s nut butter gifts are so so cute! I love the packaging and I bet they taste great too. Sounds like a really fun day. Rest those feet tonight!
Atlanta got super cold today too! I really wanted to take my oldest our for a run, but I just can’t do that cold like that. Sounds like you had a great day Kath! I hope you two get to enjoy your day off tomorrow!
Thoughtful gifts! I haven’t been a long-time reader so sorry if this has been asked- what did Matt study in school and did he always want to be a baker? (and bakery owner!)
You can read about his transition to baking in this post and the links he includes

That’s my favorite means of getting exercise. When I studied abroad in Paris, I lost 15 pounds just from walking around so much. I felt better than I’ve ever felt — even better than I’ve felt with running a lot or Cross-fitting. Walking is good for the body and the soul.
Great meeting you today! Hopefully I’ll be seeing more of Cville and I’m definitely going to stop by the bakery the next time I’m in town!
Yes, we really need to do these more often!
the muffcakes look SO good! So does your lunch. Love the side of fruit. Wish more places offered that inside of yucky oil fries.
i am SO glad i am not the only one who was silly enough to laugh at ‘muffcakes’. then i got to ‘heady goo balls’!!! it’s like an snl skit…pete’s schweddy anyone? hahahaha!! simple minds
.
It was so fun getting to meet you in person! And that panini was delicious!
You definitely got your walking in for the day!
You too!
ahh! Sarah emailed me but I had already scheduled a meeting in Richmond for today
So bummed that I missed it. Hope there is another one soon! I am thinking of coming up to cville soon, maybe for my birthday, so I can’t wait to try new gh treats.
I think we are planning another one soon!
the thought of meat in purse makes me laugh out loud, glad you gals had a nice and healthy day!
It was great to meet up with you today, Kath. Thanks for the walk and for the hospitality! Looking forward to hosting the group in Richmond sometime soon.
You too Lauren!
The strawberry icing on the muffins looks wonderful!
I just drank some San Pellegrino

That latte looks like perfection right now…actually that latte with a muffcake on the side would be perfection!
That’s a lot of walking! Looks like so much fun. Sarah is such a sweetie!
Blood sugar issues kind of run in my family and hit me particularly hard, so I have a few tricks if you’re interested. I always try to have gum with sugar on me, protein-packed snacks (Trader Joe’s has individual packaged almonds and Babybels are great), and not-too-sweet fruit (like kiwis) are key. You may already know all of that since you’re a nutritionist, but you may also be new to the low blood sugar gang. I think there was a movie when I was little called the Lollipop Gang. Random
Hope that helps!
That looks like so much fun! I got to know Sarah when she lived in Austin through blogger events – you’re lucky to have her back!
Wow, I was totally unaware that muff was an obscenity
wow, the Muffcakes look awesome! what is the top frosting on them? Is it kind of strawberry yogurt something?
I wanna try them…!
Strawberry Cream Cheese – we’re making them today too!
Could you let me know the cream?
I mean the recipe,sorry ;;
I’m sorry I can’t share -they’re a bakery recipe which is confidential
