VA Is 4 Bloggers

I have been all over the place on foot today! Great because it was a non-workout workout but tough because it is SO WINDY and cold outside! I’m estimating total miles at 7.5!

My day started with a walk to the bakery and back. I always tell myself before I get there that I’m not hungry and there’s no reason to eat any sweets. But then we always have something new to try!!

Today it was Strawberry Muffins aka Cupcakes = Muffcakes. I tried a piece from the breadboard and they were incredible!!

2012-02-11 11.31.16Blog

Then I luckily got to run into 3 of Matt’s fraternity brothers who came in for a visit! Jeb, Steve + Brian.

2012-02-11 11.43.04Blog

Back home, I showered up and munched on an apple for blood sugar morning sickness snack #2 to tide me to our late lunch.

Smart Kitchen Sarah just moved back to Cville after 18 months away (she moved away when I got here!) She is such a go-getter!! She organized a lunch at Feast for VA bloggers (and brought us all tiny personalized jars of homemade nut butter!

IMG_6010Blog

Our group included Richmonders and Cvillians

Brittany, Gabby, Lauren, Kristin, me, Faith, Liz, Jess, Alex and Sarah

IMG_6026Blog

I decided on the Margherita Panini – for the cheese!!

IMG_6015Blog

IMG_6030Blog

IMG_6017Blog

Plus a side of fruit

IMG_6015Blog

Which I topped with Sarah’s peanut butter!

IMG_6019Blog

Lauren brought us Gherharts chocolates!!

IMG_6012Blog

Had the Mint Julep for dessert 🙂

IMG_6014Blog

And Brittany brought Heady Goo Balls – a kind of mashed up larabar-style treat filled with honey and Amazing Grass!

IMG_6022Blog

After lunch I walked Brittany and Lauren back to our house where Matt was entertaining their fiancées with beer.

We stopped for a latte on the way back!

IMG_6035Blog

Then, when I realized everyone had to walk back to Feast to get their cars, we walked BACK (another mile) and I picked up some meat from the Organic Butcher that I didn’t get to grab earlier and walked the mile back home with 5 pounds of meat in my purse! It was quite the walking day!

I’m enjoying some hot tea now and making evening plans.

That’s my favorite means of getting exercise. When I studied abroad in Paris, I lost 15 pounds just from walking around so much. I felt better than I’ve ever felt — even better than I’ve felt with running a lot or Cross-fitting. Walking is good for the body and the soul.

Blood sugar issues kind of run in my family and hit me particularly hard, so I have a few tricks if you’re interested. I always try to have gum with sugar on me, protein-packed snacks (Trader Joe’s has individual packaged almonds and Babybels are great), and not-too-sweet fruit (like kiwis) are key. You may already know all of that since you’re a nutritionist, but you may also be new to the low blood sugar gang. I think there was a movie when I was little called the Lollipop Gang. Random 🙂 Hope that helps!
