The gallery crawl is like Halloween for adults! Going gallery to gallery looking at art and tasting apps and wine
We started the night by walking 2 miles to downtown and meeting UVA medical student and KERF reader, Liz, at the Second Street Gallery.
I shy away from photographing the art in respect for the artists, but I have no problem photographing the food!
Second Street always has something good – tonight it was catered by the X Lounge, including fabulous fried polenta, spreads with breadsticks and crostini and balls of goat cheese in apricots!
Tastes
Oh, and the art was amazing as well!!
We next stumbled upon a man, wearing a chair, walking on a treadmill and being blown by a fan. If that isn’t art, then I don’t know what is!
Many of the galleries have music – like this blue grass band!
We enjoyed a glass of Italian red and smoked salmon at Fellini’s
And sushi at Skylight Studios!
We ventured to McGuffey, which we always get to when the food and wine are gone
But not the chocolate!
Faith and I have a tradition at McGuffey of attending the $5 dance performance. Tonight’s was a soloist who did a 15 minute, 3-movement piece.
The husbands waited oh-so-patiently
When the crawl wrapped up around 7:30, we decided we were hungry and that we should try a new restaurant. We decided on Rapture!
Glass of wine fit the mood
Since I’d had nibbles already, I wasn’t too hungry, so I got a salad with smoked salmon on top that also came with the most amazing candied walnuts and blue cheese. I LOVE CANDIED WALNUTS AND BLUE CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was fabulous –
Matt and I just walked the 2 something miles back home in the cold dark, and I’m happy to be back in my house

Woah what an awesome event!!
I’m jealous of your city! And this is coming from someone who lives a stone’s throw away from NYC!
Fun times! Fellini’s is a popular DMB gathering place. Also, I love bluegrass music!
That sounds like the funnest night!
Looks like a great friday! Have a great weekend.
Girl sounds like a blasty! I love the one with the guy on a treadmill with a chair..the things people do for art:)
That salad looks like the perfect meal to a fabulous evening!
First Friday open galleries are the best! What is better than free food, wine, and art?!
That looks like such a fun Friday night!! Have a great weekend:-)
what an incredible event, that’s so awesome.
the food you tasted through the night looks delish!
Oh dear heavens I thought you wrote “fried placenta”. Polenta is the much better option!
You guys are so classy! Gallery crawls and that delicious food… I love it
I was going to ask if the guy on the treadmill with the fan blowing was cold… but i guess he had the chair on his back to keep him warm.
You and Matt are too cute- wish I was part of your gang
Everything looks delish! We are hoping to squeeze some time for gallery crawl tomorrow
have a great weekend!
What fun! And I totally OMG’d at the cat portrait. That looks JUST LIKE my cat!!!
I would love to find something that near us — but to be honest I’ve never looked! I love the idea of “walking into town” and taking in the city. How fun!
What a fun night! I love the chocolate piece, too.
what an AWESOME evening! Gallery Crawl. LOVE IT!
Much better than the Pub Crawls I have done in years past
The galleries always put out such lovely nibbles.
Candied walnuts and blue cheese sound like an awesome combo!
I wish we had fun things like that around here. Such fancy tasty appetizers.
I am lovingggg the food that these events!
That looks like an amazing evening!!
This looks like an AMAZING evening! Art! Food! Wine! Bluegrass!!!!! I was an art major and used to work in my university’s art gallery, so I absorb any chance I get to be a gallery dork again. It’s been awhile. I miss it so much!
I can’t speak for other artists, but I never minded having people photograph my art on the walls, nor did I stop anyone who came into the gallery wanting to document any of the exhibits. In fact, I found out through my husband that one of his classmates several years ago had photographed a painting I had displayed during my senior art show with his phone and set it up as his wallpaper. I was very flattered!
Haha, gotta love abstract art!
I’m inspired to strap my recliner to my back and take a jog, lol!
I adore candied walnuts and blue cheese also!!! What a fun night- I adore museum/apps on the town with the husband; it is a great Friday night date
Holy wowness. I think i need to retire to Charlottesville, VA…like… now? Yes, yes… that would be nice. Totally kidding. I’ll just move there instead. And open up a wellness shop next door to y’alls GHB! Pretty sure that’d be just as blissful as retirement!!
I am not a big fan of blue cheese (especially if it is really stinky), but throw those glazed pecans in there and I would definitely order the salad!
candied walnuts and blue cheese truly “make” a salad!
i love art. and food.
that’s so nice to be able to wander about the galleries, snacking and looking at art! haha loved the treadmill guy – modern art for you!
i’ve never had a candied walnut i don’t think – lame!
Try ‘Spiced Nuts’:
1 egg white
1 tsp cold water
1 lb almonds or pecans or walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon, more to taste
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves (optional)
Beat egg white and water until frothy, but not stiff. Add nuts and mix until coated. Mix sugar and spices and add nuts to that bowl. Place on buttered shallow pan. Bake at 225* for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Watch they don’t burn.
Candied walnuts are my fav!!
How cultured!?! lol Looks like an amazing place, wish the gallery’s near us did spreads like that!
Where you live looks so fun and so cute! When we lived in Alexandria , VA I loved going to their downtown area Old Town, they always had fun stuff going on and amazing dining too!
Looks like a great night, my fave part of the food would of been the sushi ; )
It looks like y’all had an amazing evening!!! I’d love to do something like that. It looks so interesting and fun.
This sounds like such a fun grown up night out.
That salad does look incredible. Smoked Salmon and blue cheese is fantastic!
That sounds like a perfect night! Hope you had fun!!!
I don’t think any of the galleries near us have events like that… maybe the Detroit Institute, but thats a little far to go sometimes. That food looks amazing, especially whatever is in the first picture!
Jessica
Candied walnuts? Be still my heart!
Love Matt and tate’s purses
Sounds like a fun Friday! Have a great weekend.
Sounds like a perfect evening! You make me want to move to Charlottesville! I ALMOST went to law school at UVA!
After years of hating blue cheese, I think I’m finally starting to like it! That salad look good.
You always see the most awesome events! I think I need to relocate..ha.
I’m not a huge blue cheese fan but I’d definitely go for the candied walnuts! Looks like an amazing spread of food!
I wish I had something like this near me. I miss going to these.
I love these gallery “crawls”! I’ve been looking for something like that in Boston; haven’t found it yet. Looks like so much fun!
my first date with my husband was at rapture- almost SEVEN years ago, thanks for the trip down memory lane
So it’s basically like bar hopping except grown up and sophisticated? That sounds AWESOME!
Candied walnuts, blue cheese, wine, music, and ART?!? PERFECT evening!
Oops. Before I hit “submit,” I meant to also add a thank you for your policy about not photographing the art. As the mom of an amazing artist, I appreciate that courtesy. Thanks, Kath.
Man, chair, treadmill, WHAAAA???? Methinks he had some of the wine as well?
How fun! Loving the kitty pic
Sounds like a fun evening! Wish I had such interesting things to do where I live :-/
