Trick Or Treat

The gallery crawl is like Halloween for adults! Going gallery to gallery looking at art and tasting apps and wine 🙂

We started the night by walking 2 miles to downtown and meeting UVA medical student and KERF reader, Liz, at the Second Street Gallery.

I shy away from photographing the art in respect for the artists, but I have no problem photographing the food!

BLOG-0233

Second Street always has something good – tonight it was catered by the X Lounge, including fabulous fried polenta, spreads with breadsticks and crostini and balls of goat cheese in apricots!

BLOG-0231

BLOG-0232

Tastes

BLOG-0234

Oh, and the art was amazing as well!!

We next stumbled upon a man, wearing a chair, walking on a treadmill and being blown by a fan. If that isn’t art, then I don’t know what is!

BLOG-0227

Many of the galleries have music – like this blue grass band!

BLOG-0236

BLOG-0237

We enjoyed a glass of Italian red and smoked salmon at Fellini’s

BLOG-0241

And sushi at Skylight Studios!

BLOG-0243

BLOG-0246

We ventured to McGuffey, which we always get to when the food and wine are gone

BLOG-0249

But not the chocolate!

BLOG-0250

BLOG-0249

Faith and I have a tradition at McGuffey of attending the $5 dance performance. Tonight’s was a soloist who did a 15 minute, 3-movement piece.

BLOG-0247

The husbands waited oh-so-patiently

BLOG-0256

When the crawl wrapped up around 7:30, we decided we were hungry and that we should try a new restaurant. We decided on Rapture!

BLOG-0259

Glass of wine fit the mood

BLOG-0258

Since I’d had nibbles already, I wasn’t too hungry, so I got a salad with smoked salmon on top that also came with the most amazing candied walnuts and blue cheese. I LOVE CANDIED WALNUTS AND BLUE CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was fabulous –

BLOG-0265

Matt and I just walked the 2 something miles back home in the cold dark, and I’m happy to be back in my house

 this !

This looks like an AMAZING evening! Art! Food! Wine! Bluegrass!!!!! I was an art major and used to work in my university’s art gallery, so I absorb any chance I get to be a gallery dork again. It’s been awhile. I miss it so much!

I can’t speak for other artists, but I never minded having people photograph my art on the walls, nor did I stop anyone who came into the gallery wanting to document any of the exhibits. In fact, I found out through my husband that one of his classmates several years ago had photographed a painting I had displayed during my senior art show with his phone and set it up as his wallpaper. I was very flattered!

      Try ‘Spiced Nuts’:
      1 egg white
      1 tsp cold water
1 lb almonds or pecans or walnuts
      1/2 cup sugar
      1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon, more to taste
      1/2 tsp nutmeg
      1/4 tsp cloves (optional)
Beat egg white and water until frothy, but not stiff. Add nuts and mix until coated. Mix sugar and spices and add nuts to that bowl. Place on buttered shallow pan. Bake at 225* for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Watch they don’t burn.
