I haven’t had the best day
Chem Lab was bad
Then I got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic
Then time flew and I put dinner in the oven with no plan
Then I worked on Organic chem and realized how much I need to study before Wednesday.
Then I remembered my Micro test on Thursday that really needs my attention
Then I kinda burned a mediocre dinner.
BUT, those are all pretty trivial things to complain about so I am moving on to take a bad and read in bed and hope tomorrow is brighter.
And I did get in some pumpkin beer! The husband and I split one while we got dinner on the table…
Dinner was baked tofu and acorn squash. I put them in the oven at 425* around 6pm and realized the husband was working until 7:30 so I just reduced the heat and left them in. The flavor was good but the tofu was kinda cardboard-y, but still good because it’s tofu! I rubbed it in Bone Suckin’ Sauce, worcestershire, S+P, and honey before baking.
On the side we had the last of these instant rices that I’ve had for AGES. They are handy, but the flavor is pretty pathetic. I mixed mine with plain yogurt (fabulous with rice, if you haven’t tried it) and cinnamon. It was quite redeeming.
Didn’t need a snack today because my salad was very filling, but I did have a small handful of Quaker Squares as I packed tomorrow’s lunch.
I should study, but I’m tired from not getting adequate sleep last night and am off to take a bath and do some non-science reading.
G’night!

Ahhh, hang in there, Kath!! DEFINITELY relax tonight – no studying!!
Sorry your day turned into a grumpy day! I hope it gets better and that you enjoy your evening! I need to try yogurt with rice…almost sounds like rice pudding.
Kath, sounds like an off-day. Hope everything gets brighter tomorrow….the sun will come out, tomorrowm JUST LIKE ANNIE SINGS!
Have a great night!
Aw, sorry to hear about the lame day! I hate when all the little complaints add up to make for a yucky overall feeling.
I’ll agree with the commenter above and say I’ve gotta try plain yogurt in rice! I think I have both those things at home, yum.
Aww Kath, sorry to hear about your day….
We’re rootin’ for ya!
But nothin’ some booze can’t fix, right?
Enjoy your bath; hope that leaves you feeling relaxed and happy and ready to tackle the day tomorrow!
Aww, have a good night’s sleep and a better tomorrow =)
Mmm, rice and yogurt? Sounds like a fast rice pudding to me yummy!
Hmmm….it looks like you left the skin on with your acorn squash. I’ve never tried it like that before. Is the skin pretty tender?
Hang in there! Sorry to hear about your evening!
Relax and get a good night’s rest!
If that Post Road is a New England beer, that is probably a reference to the road you were almost born on (When we had the flat tire.)
Sending some sunshine your way for a brighter and happier day tomorrow
I hate bad days…! I know how you feel, even if they are trivial complaints it doesn’t change the fact that it feels sucky when it is happening!
I just spend 5.79 on a half gallon of blue bell peppermint ice cream! They only sell it during the holidays! I officially lose the thanksgiving challenge. but it is super tasty, most definitely the panacea for a bad day!
Despite the not so good day, you still have admirable positive attitude. you’re really my role model to follow!!! I just can’t get that attitude when I’m low.
im sorry about chem – right now i am just taking the mandatory high school course, but i am confused on what Chemistry has to do with nutrition. Right now we are just learning about ionic bonding…do you have to take many chem courses to become a R.D?
That sucks that you are having a bad day. At least it’s almost over! At least you didn’t forget to write a paper like I did!
Your dinner, despite being described as medicore, looks pretty good!
Hope tomorrow is better for you!!
How was the pumpkin ale? :d
tofu looks flavorful!
Sorry for the bad day, Kath. Tomorrow will be better.
I am right there with you on school overload. If we can just make it to Thanksgiving, right?
That’s a cool idea about the plain yogurt, I would never have thought to try it, thanks!
Rest up tonight, Kath!
Oh my gosh, my husband LOVES cinnamon on his rice! I used to think it was so wierd until I tried it and really liked it too. I’ll have to try it with yogurt though, that’s a new one!
I hope tomorrow’s a better day for you!
sorry you had a bad end to your day
hope tomorrow goes better!
i looooove instant brown rice. it is a STAPLE in my dorm room
Tomorrow will be better Kath!! Chin up
zesty
I totally did that the last time I made baked tofu – I left it in the oven because I wasn’t ready to eat and it got too chewy and hard. Lesson learned I guess.
Sorry you had a bad day. Hope tomorrow is better!
(((hugs)))
Traffic always puts me in a foul mood… beer makes it all ok!
I totally ruined a batch of cookies, left them in the oven too long as well. They went right in the trash, not edible at all.
Aww, good luck with o-chem! I’m taking it too and flashcards really help. Are you using the Wade book that most schools use? We had a test on chapters 8-11 tonight.
oh boy Kath.. yep it sounds like its time for bed! thats where im heading right now!
Kath’s Mom and/or Kath,
Would that happen to be Post Road in Rhode Island (route 1) by any chance?! My boyfriend’s mom lives off that road! Maybe route 1 is called that in other areas of New England too though
Rats! I thought I was the only one with a bad day!! Or so I hoped
Well, tomorrow has to be better right?
Sorry to hear you didn’t have the best day
At least you have a fun weekend ahead!
I’m sorry you had a bad day – hope tomorrow is extra great to make up for it!
Rice with yogurt and cinnamon sounds awesome. I must try that.
Aww. I hope the beer does the trick
Great idea with yogurt and rice.
your tofu always looks scrumptious!
Aww sorry your day was bad, but as they say, things have to be bad before they get better! (or something like that; don’t blame me, I’m a foreigner)
Rice and yogurt? I like it….that’s a good way to add some protein. Greek yogurt or regular? Plain or vanilla? I feel like vanilla yogurt with the cinnamon would be really good, considering those are the basic ingredients to horchata!
I totally had a case of the Mondays too. At least the day’s over and tomorrow we can start anew!
i agree that yoghurt in rice is awesome. i tried that after reading your blog, and it’s tastiness. i can totally see it making the instant rice significantly better.
i have a question about the pull-ups you’re doing at the gym. (i’m trying to add more definition to my arms – so i’m looking for good exercise suggestions right now.) do you still use the assisted pull-up machine? or are you doing these “old-school” now? if so, i’m uber impressed. also – for working triceps, does anyone know if you need to do more reps to get good results? maybe more reps on lower weights? my biceps are looking great – but still have that flabby underarm bit that i want to get rid of!
okay, night all. happier tuesday to kath and matt! you guys work SO hard!! i’m constantly impressed!
If you like spicy, you could try making biryani (Indian/Pakistani rice with meat and spices). That’s traditionally served with yogurt and is really good!
Sorry about your bad day
Hope tomorrow goes better! I like the sound of your dinner though, even if it did cook for a while.
hey i JUST bought that pumpkin ale haha! it seemed to have pretty good reviews so i got it, still have to see for myself though.
eeeew- it can only go up from here! Plus, bet that pumpkin beer didn’t hurt.
My monday started off super blech as well (2 essays on top of a midterm) but hey, we got the worst of the week outta the way!!!
Camtim42 ,
Yes, it’s definitely edible after being cooked.
Mom ,
Forgot to look at the bottle, but if so, very cool!
Teenage Veg Head,
I think most R.D. programs require 4 semesters (at least) of chemistry, including a year of general chem, organic and biochem.
Yes
Jen ,
Really good with a slightly hoppy bitter finish, making it third place in my pumpkin ale evaluation.
daphna ,
Our book is MacMurray. What are you putting on your flashcards for the reactions? Maybe I should make some too in addition to my study sheets.
Nick ,
I’ve used greek and reg. plain. Vanilla would be interesting though!
Tara ,
I use the assisted machine. I started with 80lbs help, now I’m down to 70 and have increased my reps to about 30. I should move down to 60 soon! It’s made “real” pull-ups possible, slowly but surely.
Kath
Yikes – sorry to hear about the rough day! Hope today goes better for you
