A grandmotherly breakfast!
Tea in a teacup (with a saucer!)
Fresh squeezed OJ in a goblet
And cereal with milk, banana and blueberries (and a little of Rosie’s Best choco granola!)
And then we were off!
Gram has had a rough few months since my grandfather passed away in August, including a fractured ankle. On her birthday today, she wanted to be taken out to a jewelry store so she could buy an 86th birthday ring!
Her friend Dilys took us to her favorite jewelry store, which was tucked away in the bottom of a building but quite a nice store!
Our crew made quite an entrance -
My grandparents used to love to go to Subway for veggie subs, so that was Gram’s birthday lunch request
I was in charge of ordering all 5 – it was quite the order list!
I got a veggie sub with everything but onions!
Mary Frances got a special pumpkin dip just for me! With ginger snaps for dipping!
The dip was pumpkin with cream cheese and was delish!
To end our birthday lunch, we shared one of MamaPea’s Dough Balls. I tried to stress how famous they are while we consumed, but I’m not sure the others realized what a treat this was ![]()
Time for me to hit the road!

This is making me so excited to share my grandma’s birthday with her on Christmas!
Happy Birthday to your grandmother. What a special day for you to spend with her.
What a cute birthday for your Grandma!
That’s how I make pumpkin dip too, just pumpkin butter mixed with organic cream cheese. Super simple but delicious.
Awwww that is so sweet. I almost teared up when you talked about her losing your grandfather. I can’t imagine. Seeing my grandparents is always fun. I’ve been so blessed to have them all my life.
You, your mom and your grandma look so much alike! Adorable!
I wish my grandmothers were still alive….they would totally have wanted to go buy a birthday ring.
It was my husband’s bday yesterday and I am posting pictures of what I made for him. We are traveling and Im not at my home kitchen so everything is wayyyy more complicated anyway, but glad to know you ladies rocked the Subway. The bday “meal” for my hubs was what HE wanted and was really low key. Glad your Gram got Subway like she wanted
Your Grandmother is adorable!!!
I love the rosemary tree
Such a precious photo of you and your beautiful Gram! Safe travels home, Kath!
Wow your sister looks just like your mom!
And your grammy is so cute
I can’t remember the last time I drank tea from a tea cup. There’s nothing like it.
That’s not my sister – that’s me!
Oh, maybe you just mean in general!?
That purple sweater is so beautiful! And how adorable that your grandma wanted Subway for her b-day lunch. I think the only word for that is precious.
Happy, happy birthday to your lovely grandmother. She looks thrilled to have you guys there with her to celebrate. I often find that with grandparents, being there is better than any gift that you could send.
<3 your grandma. She is way too cute for word!
Your grandmother is adorable! What a fun lady!
The grandmotherly breakfast is so cute. I just ate something similar, but used my mom’s warm-from-the-oven granola that I’m now obsessed with…here’s the recipe (perfect for gifts, because if you keep it around too long you’ll eat it all): http://eating-made-easy.com/2010/12/20/moms-snacking-granola/
Yum!
So funny to see CS Pierce on your website
I’m a Baltimore native and it is one of the best places to buy jewels. Congrats to your grandmother and hope you enjoyed your stay in Towson!

So cute. HB Grandma KERF!
your gram is so cute. I love it!
Definitely a great way to celebrate a birthday.
Teehee, I love that you tried to explain the blogosphere-famous dough balls to the old folks! One of my grandmas understands about the internet, but I don’t think my 96 year old other one is quite sure what it’s all about…
Looks like a very special birthday!
I am sure your grandma really appreciated it.
That looks fun! I asked for mama dough balls for xmas as one of my gifts. I’ve heard so much about it and I wanted to give it a try, I am excited to get it. How have you kept yours for so long, did you put it in the freezer or something?
It was just sitting out! Probably not so fresh..
Oh okay. I just got them today, I am definitely trying it for dessert tonight! I only got 6 though and giving two to my parents so it won’t be hard to eat the rest in the next couple days
.
I love your sweater! what a gorgeous color. Veggie subs from Subway are my favorite thing on their menu. Veggies are the bestest.
Happy Birthday Gram
It’s so nice to see 3 generations spending good time together.
