Presents Wrapped, Salad Wrapped

December 16, 2011

Not 30 seconds after making this lunch I got a message from Matt: “I’m near Whole Foods, want to meet for lunch?”

Followed by: “I’m going to get salad bar – for the nutrients!”

He loves that line. [And thankfully he’s feeling much better today.] Must have been the nap and the soup – and the beer!

On the menu was a whole wheat tortilla [WF brand] stuffed with lemony hummus [also WF brand], avocado, carrots and mixed greens.

I bought a bag of shredded carrots on a whim and my gosh they have been SOOO convenient and fun to throw into things! They might be more $ per ounce, but I think I enjoy them that much more.

On the side – an apple with that amazing Wisconsin Red Rock Cheddar Bleu

[I was sent this cheese for a recipe – must find it in Cville it’s that good!]

Later gators!

Bleu cheddar cheese?! I’m in love! :) Such a beautiful lunch. Love all the color!

2 Khushboo December 16, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Cheese, hummus and avocado- all-star lunch!

3 Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious December 16, 2011 at 2:17 pm

You can make the most simple lunch look gourmet. I was at Whole Foods today and managed to control myself for once and NOT get a meal from the bar!

4 Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl December 16, 2011 at 2:19 pm

I love apples and cheese. Go really well with Triscuits, too. My mom and I loved it as an afternoon snack in my youth. The wrap looks delicious, too!

5 Jenn@slim-shoppin December 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm

I’ve still never tried the cheese and apple combo, but yours looks good!

I have a fancy cheese market a block from my office and I bet they would carry that kind! I’m going to check it out this weekend.

I’m a fruit and cheddar afficionado myself. Holy yum! Blue Cheddar.

7 Becca December 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Did you wrap presents today (just guessing based on the post’s title)? If so, jealous. My shopping is done, but I haven’t yet done the wrapping. Soon!

8 Elisabeth December 16, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I seriously need to get started wrapping my gift! I love gift wrapping (I actually have a wrapping station table that stores everything inside & folds down) & usually do it a couple weeks before Christmas but it’s now 1 week to go…and nothing wrapped… fail! ;)

9 Cat @Breakfast to Bed December 16, 2011 at 2:33 pm

that cheese makes my life.

10 Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon December 16, 2011 at 2:46 pm

That wrap looks phenomenal!!

11 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat December 16, 2011 at 2:47 pm

I am by no means a cheese connoisseur, but I’ve never heard of cheddar AND blue in the same piece of cheese before – very cool!

12 Angel7 December 16, 2011 at 2:52 pm

Where can I purchase some of that Wisconsin Red Rock Cheddar Bleu cheese? It sounds awesome!!!

13 Hannah @ eat, drink and save money December 16, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Second that question!

And here’s a where to buy list:

16 Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot December 16, 2011 at 2:54 pm

I love shredded carrots and broccoli slaw! For some reason that shape and texture is just right for adding to salads, etc! I also always like to add that to my pasta meals to get in a bit more veg :)

17 lauren December 16, 2011 at 2:56 pm

nothing beats WF lemon hummus- seriously addicted- on sandwiches, veggies, blue tortilla chips.
so. yum.

blue cheddar is now on my radar. can’t wait to try it. {hopefully}

18 kathleen @ the daily crumb December 16, 2011 at 3:08 pm

apples + cheese is one of my all time favorite combos! and i love the WF wraps. delicious lunch :)

19 Claire Z December 16, 2011 at 3:18 pm

shredded carrots are one of those convenience foods I can’t live without. I like mixing them with hummus for a take on coleslaw and I also have a recipe for a spicy shredded carrot/peanut butter/edamame wrap.

20 Amanda December 16, 2011 at 3:24 pm

Any excuse to get WF salad bar is a good reason in my book. Good for you for sticking to your wrap – I would have seriously considered putting it in the fridge for later and going to get salad. :)

21 Tami @Nutmeg Notebook December 16, 2011 at 3:34 pm

I love cheese and apples for a snack, lunch or appetizer.

22 Jasmine December 16, 2011 at 3:35 pm

You must save a lot of money on bread and cheese and nut butter since you don’t have to purchase them.

23 Zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth December 16, 2011 at 3:43 pm

That cheese looks fantastic. I have never had one like that and we are usually very spoilt for choice over here, as both Britain and our European neighbours make such a wide range of beautiful cheeses. I will look out for something similar.

24 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife December 16, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Oh that cheese sounds good! I love me a good wrap–YUMM.

25 Kiran @ December 16, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Glad to hear Matt is feeling better!

I want that wrapped salad. NOW :D

26 Cait's Plate December 16, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Wrapped salads are one of my favorite ways to eat salad :)

27 Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga December 16, 2011 at 4:12 pm

that cheese looks great and yes, sometimes certain things are a little more oz for oz, but so worth it.

good perfume is one of them. along with shredded carrots :)

28 Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio December 16, 2011 at 4:15 pm

I love cheese and apples. They go so well together!

29 Sarah December 16, 2011 at 4:21 pm

I’m all about the pre-shredded carrots. There’s a brand at our grocery store called Bunny Love and they do pre-shredded and pre-cut carrots, they’re a little more expensive than just buying whole carrots – but I find I’ll eat more if they’re pre-cut and pre-rinsed, instead of rinsing, peeling, and chopping myself!

30 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen December 16, 2011 at 4:30 pm

cheddar + bleu is genius!

31 Kristen @ The Concrete Runner December 16, 2011 at 4:30 pm

That cheese would be so weird to eat! I’d be afraid it would go bad and I wouldn’t know it!

32 Emmy (WIne and Butter) December 16, 2011 at 4:50 pm

What is it that makes hummus just so insanely ridiculously good…!? I Have literally NEVER met anyone immune to it’s power! I want to discover (invent!?) the new hummus and make my millions!!

33 Liz December 16, 2011 at 5:04 pm

I knew hummus will be the winner!! :)

34 Clare @ SweetnSimple December 16, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Beautiful looking lunch :) That cheese looks veeery interesting, I’d love to try!

35 Molly @ RDexposed December 16, 2011 at 5:28 pm

If only beer was a cure-all! *Drinking Delirium Tremens as I type!

36 Sarah@The Flying ONION December 16, 2011 at 5:43 pm

Best lunch ever! So pretty and it looks delicious. :D

37 Anna December 16, 2011 at 5:51 pm

Bleu cheddar??? Tell me more!

38 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin December 16, 2011 at 6:52 pm

Apples and cheese were made to go together! I’ve never heard of cheddar and bleu cheese all in one though. That’s definitely something I’ve got to try!

39 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 16, 2011 at 7:13 pm

I would have wrapped up that lunch to eat another day and gone to WF!!

40 Ellie@fitforthesoul December 16, 2011 at 7:41 pm

Mmmmm the cheese looks so good~I’m intrigued!

41 Meagan December 16, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Haha. I totally would have put it in the fridge, saved it for dinner, and rushed over to WFs – I love it there!

42 Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn December 17, 2011 at 12:05 am

You better find that cheese so I can eat it.

43 Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count December 17, 2011 at 11:03 am

Love whole wheat wraps! Love the shredded carrots, too!

44 Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles December 17, 2011 at 11:14 am

My mom and I both agree that that Cheddar Bleu cheese looks amazing…so much so, I called up the local cheese shop to enquire about it. Alas, they do not sell it, nor would they be able to get it in…I live in Canada. The guy was very interested in it though…hopefully he takes an interest in it! My aunt lives in Wisconsin…maybe she can find it!

45 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats December 17, 2011 at 12:12 pm

oh gosh, that cheese looks so good! bleu cheese and cheddar together sounds like a good mix to me!

46 Kate December 17, 2011 at 4:24 pm

I WANT that cheese!!!!!! I NEED to taste it. I wish there was some in Ohio!
