The Three Bears

Bear History

The Bears are just an inside joke between Matt and me that has transcended to the internet. I used to hate stuffed bears. I always told my boyfriends (and then Matt) that if they got me one for Valentine’s Day that I would shred it to pieces. Harsh, I know. I don’t really know why I didn’t like them! But alas, my distaste for stuffed bears turned into a big piece of my life.

Bocker was the first to the family. I got Bocker as a birthday gift from a friend from the Davidson bookstore. Matt used to make him dance Freshman year of college (and I’m sorry to say Matt also used to strangle him and make him squeal!) Beaker came from Camp Seafarer where we both worked as counselor’s during college. He quickly joined Bocker in his animation.

Churton (the furry one!) was found on Churton Street in Hillsborough on the side of the road. My mom practically forced us to adpot him, but we are glad we did. 3 Bears are better than one.

The Bears appear in funny positions in our house – sometimes hidden in suitcases, sometimes appearing when you turn a corner in the morning.

Here is some Beartainment for you!

This is the most adorable page EVER! My favorite one is when the bears are “carrying” away the key board! Sooo cute :)

2 erica August 31, 2010 at 4:09 am

3 Shannon, Tropical Eats August 31, 2010 at 9:57 am

I love the “The Bears Get Threatened” post haha.
This makes me want to watch the old Paddington Bear tv show!

I love when the “Bears Go to Grammy’s” and work on their hobbies. These always make me smile.

I’ve always wondered what the story about the bears were! I love this page, its so cute :)

8 Alaina @ The Jogging Concierge September 10, 2010 at 7:48 am

I love the first picture! Such mischievous bears when mom’s not home. 😉

9 Katie O. September 16, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Thanks for sharing about the bears story! I was wondering about them. I totally hate receiving plush toys as romantic gifts…lol. I feel the same angst toward guys buying roses from the woman at the club who walks around selling them. Definitely embrassing for me and not romantic. 😉

Anyway I love that it became an inside joke. Keep the photos coming. I like the photo when the itty bitty one pushes the big bears down the stairs.

Too cute!! I love posts that include the bears. So much fun! :)

So glad I found this. I have been wondering about the story of your bears. :-)
I was telling my husband about your bears yesterday so I decided to try and find a few posts. I love that the bears have their own page. :-)

13 Nelle @ Living Cliche November 25, 2010 at 7:26 am

This is the most adorable thing I have ever witnessed on the Internet. Seriously. And I’ve seen Secret AND Surprise Kittens. Personally, I love bears. Matt sounds just like my guy– he always makes stuffed animals come to life!

Hi Kath,
I love this page! I have a whole bear family as well. I can’t wait to see what the bears are up to this year.

15 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) January 3, 2011 at 7:45 pm

Awww, so cute! Your bears have to meet our moose! 😀

16 Allie @ Healthy Balance, Healthy Life January 11, 2011 at 10:49 pm

The very first post “When Kath’s Away, The Bears Will Play” had me rolling. That was just so funny and adorable :)

ok this post is absolutely the cutest!!! i just came across your blog via gill @ snax & the city and am definitely gonna be checking your blog all the time! you have some great recipes i’m dying to try like the carrot cake oats & blue cheese & pecan/date pork tenderloins!! I’m also gonna take some tips from your closet storage post and hopefully part with some of my (way too) many clothes! i live in the smallest little studio apartment and its crazy hard to stay organized in such a small space… thanks for the tips on food and organizing!!

19 Anne February 3, 2011 at 1:29 pm

OMG – I’m giggling reading this page! Too cute! We don’t have “the Bears”, but we do have “Pete the Moose” and some hugging penguins. When Matt and Iget into arguments, Pete usually votes with me (since his arms are always up).

20 Baking 'n' Books February 10, 2011 at 8:41 pm

This is hilarious! I seen “The Bears” on your side-bar and was wandering what it was about.

I love the one up in the tree!

21 Suzanne @ continuing my education February 16, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Love the bears btw…this is what goes down at my work sometimes:

There are some rough nights!

The bears are so cute! My boyfriend and I have something similar…we have teddy bears from our schools (2 undergrads and 2 Masters) and they have been with us for years. We even brought them to London with us on our big move. I don’t see them leaving our family anytime soon. =)

23 Annie May 21, 2011 at 8:58 am

How funny! I always hated bears, too, and now I have a most precious daughter who adores them. Sometimes my husband and I pose the bears and other toys in silly positions when we clean up at night. I’m going to be more intentional about it! Love your site. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

24 Nina May 21, 2011 at 4:31 pm

How cute and creative!!! I never met you but reading into your blog gives such in site about your life!!! How adorable. I love teddy bears :)

25 Jackie July 26, 2011 at 1:23 pm

From a teddy bear collector, I LOVE IT! One year, when I had only been married a short time, 2 of my favorite little bears helped deliver my Christmas gift. It was a note telling me I was going somewhere special. Each day for about a week they showed up with clues. The last was instructions on what I should pack. (them of course!) I did not know until I got on the plane that I was headed to NYC. The bears made it even more fun!!

26 Laura August 4, 2011 at 1:53 pm

I’m loving the bears! I’ve always been a big fan of KevieBear over at…KevieBear even went to NY with me in 2007 to meet hsi idol Kevin Spacey (and yes, we did). Glad to see everyone has this much fun!!!

27 Molly @ RDexposed August 7, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Um, my boyfriend still does those things to my bear that Matt did to Bocker. Dancing, tail wagging, strangling, you name it! Bocker and Bear may need a support group or counseling. Or at least chat over breakfast?

28 Alex @ Happicakes October 23, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Words cannot express how much I love your bears. :) I have a thing for stuffed animals and my favorite bear sits on my bed! I think Bocker may be my fave..his innocent little face is soo sweet!

29 Nicole October 30, 2011 at 6:15 pm

are those the Berenstein Bears in one picture??

30 Michelle Felt November 6, 2011 at 5:33 pm

These pictures and poses are the best! So glad they weren’t shredded :) So cute!

31 Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot March 2, 2012 at 1:13 am

Haha, this is sooo awesome! My cousin has a little toy that she keeps in her purse (a little person-figure) that she and her friend take everywhere and photograph him. It is sooo funny to see all of the pictures, and this so reminds me of that!

32 Michelle May 9, 2012 at 10:26 am

I love these photographs!

33 Daniele June 26, 2012 at 9:15 am

Oh my god…I love the bears even more, now that I know they are fraid of snakes like I am! Such a great page…made me laugh…a lot!

34 Robin Melanie August 18, 2014 at 12:11 am

I have been wondering about The Bears. Has Mazen met them?

35 KathEats August 18, 2014 at 5:39 am

Yes! They are friends :)

36 Robin Melanie August 19, 2014 at 7:31 pm

Well then, how cute it would be if you did a piece where the bears AND Mazen have an adventure, and you wrote it the way you did about the bears. You’re so creative. It would be a darling picture book for kids his age! I was thinking Mazen could put little sunglasses on them (think Michael’s or a craft store?), and they could race trucks, and have snacks. You’ll think up a darling story–unless you’ve already written one that I missed!
Also, I was wondering if the lunchbox surprise is still engaging Mazen. That was an ingenious idea.
I really love your two blogs, Kath.

37 KathEats August 19, 2014 at 8:46 pm

: ) I’ll have to see if they’re up for it! They are hanging out in M’s reading nook right now:

And lunch box surprise works about 50% of the time : )
