Penbears

Bears lovers unite!!!

From Christine

bears2

Summer is the turtle (I bought her last year at Starbucks at the beginning of summer).

Valentino (Godiva bear my fiancé bought for Valentine’s day).

Sawyer (Habitat for Humanity bear).

Keifer (our very first bear for our first Valentine’s day – 2007)  We named him Keifer after the Chicago restaurant where we went for our second date.

We LOVE your bear "tales" – they make us laugh!

A Letter To The KERF Bears

Bear1

Dear Bocker, Beaker and Churton,

Hi! Our mom reads your mom’s blog and told us about you and showed us pictures of everything you’ve been doing this summer. We were really excited to read about other bears, we don’t get to meet many of our relatives (we’re assuming we’re related to each other somehow). I hope your mom will send you this message, we didn’t have your individual e-mail addresses.

How do you all like staying at your grandma’s? It looks like a lot of fun. Our mom won’t let us stay with our Nana, she says she lives too far away and she would miss us too much. We think the real reason is that she doesn’t want to let us off work for that long. Do you have any pets? We have 2 cats. Our job is to watch them while Mom and Dad are at work. They pay us for watching them so I guess it isn’t too bad. It isn’t very much but we try to save most of our paychecks because Mom and Dad say we’re old enough to buy our own treats now.

Do you all get to travel very much? We love to travel but road trips are better than airplanes. Mom crams us into her backpack when we fly and it’s not very comfortable. Stretching out in the back seat is so much better and our friend Moose can come too (he’s too big to go on a plane).

How long have you lived with your parents? I (Bear) don’t remember living anywhere except with my mom. I met her on Christmas day the year she was born, so we’re the same age and we grew up together. I could tell you lots of stories about her, but she might not like that and since I need her help to write this (typing without thumbs is so hard!) I’d better be nice J Heidi and I met  when Mom and Dad took me to a teddy bear museum about 10 years ago. They had a whole room full of teddy bears that were up for adoption. As soon as we saw Heidi we wanted to bring her home with us. Of course, we wanted to bring home all of the bears since they didn’t really have a home, but Mom told me other families would adopt them – I sure hope she was right!

Well, we should get back to work. Everyone thinks cats sleep all day, but our cats still require a lot of supervision. I’ve attached a picture of me (the birthday bear), Heidi and Moose. I hope you write back, we’ve never had bear-pals before!

Have a good summer!

Sincerely,

Bear and Heidi

The Bears Write Back

IMG_1775 (800x600) this !

Dear Bear + Heidi,

We’re so excited to have a pen bear!! Grammy’s house is fun, but we miss our friends in Charlottesville (mostly, El Tigre the cat) so we like writing to you!

The pond was fun today. Grammy made us put sunscreen all over our furr and that made us extra slipper. We had fun sliding extra fast down the slide (it’s a fancy pond with a waterfall and a slide!).

Tomorrow we’re going on a field trip to a bee farm to learn about how honey is made. It will be hard to keep our paws from dipping in the honeycomb!

Mom wants to know if you guys want to be on her blog? Is it ok with your mom?

Paws,

Bocker, Beaker + Churton Younger-Monson

Bears rule, humans drool!

OMG my boyfriend and I have bears too! They’re called Pudding Bear (who loves baking any sort of weird puddings) and Potato Bear (in love with mash potatoes). They’re currently spending the summer trying to develop a recipe for a potato pudding they can enjoy together. Love this blog post, Kath! So cute!

The Bears are finally truly interested in the blog! They are checking constantly to see if Bear, Heidi, and Moose have written them back yet, and they keep looking at the picture of Summer, Valentino, Keifer, and Sayer and shouting out, “They look so fun! They look so fun!”

This makes me so happy. I can’t believe I’m admitting this (and he’d kill me if he knew), but my boyfriend and I have kind of the same thing going on. We’re in a long distance relationship, and I have a bear (named Ber) and he has a dog (named Pup) to keep us company while the other is gone. So glad to see I’m not the only one who truly loves my inanimate pet ; )

My lion pals are SO jealous! They want pen pals now too. There’s at least 100 of them, so I don’t really know why they need more animals to talk to, but that’s what they say. Maybe they just want a different animal’s perspective rather than lions talking about lions all the time?
