Second Annual Summer Bear Camp

Last year we sent the Bears to grandma Buzz’s house for the summer.

Drama Camp 002 (480x640) this !

It was nice to have them safe and sound while we moved from Charlotte to Charlottesville. They had a wonderful time doing arts + crafts, performing in summer theater, learning new trades and eating way too much candy!

Summer At Grammy’s – Part II | July 2010

Summer At Grammy’s – Part III | Aug 2010

When my mom came this weekend, she offered to take the Bears back to Hillsborough while we open the bakery so we’ll have a little less to worry about on the home front.

Here’s an email I received last night about their trip:

Thrilled to be here!  Running all around  "I remember this"  "Are we going to do that?"

They are saying a lot of "My dad allows that" If I say we don’t run across the dining room table. We had this last year. I know he isn’t THAT lenient–I think they are trying to trick Grammy.

A little later she g-chatted me this:

Barbara:  How strict do ya’ll want me to be? I have them for a while so I can’t be too lenient. Paw Paw put them in their seatbelts in the car on the way home.

me:  they need their disciplined or they get out of control!

Barbara:  yes that is how I feel. Not as strict as you are but I have to lay down lines

And then this morning I received this news:

The bears behaved beautifully in the car and were so thrilled to arrive in Hillsborough.  They did a lot of bouncing on their bed (Kath’s old bed) but finally settled down to sleep.

However, we’ve had a bit of trouble with breakfast this morning.

Beaker said, "Grammy, I can’t drink this milk. It isn’t organic."

IMG_0301-2Blog

And Churton said, "I don’t want that toast.  It’s not Great Harvest Bread."

IMG_0306-2Blog

And Bocker said, "I would never eat plain old cereal.  I only eat granola that my dad made in his bakery."

IMG_0307-2Blog

Sigh.  They are off playing.  I’m hoping if they get good and hungry enough, they will eat Grammy’s food.

Looks like Grammy is up for a wild summer!!

Lils is furious that we made friends with another cat and doesn’t want Auntie Karen befriending any other cats either. Lils only likes people and herself. Sad but true.

You guys and those cats crack me up. My dad has a “neighborhood” cat who invites himself into other homes. He’s been known to waltz in and go get in bed with other people. 🙂 It also gets him into trouble – he’s been stuck inside a garage and underneath a house for days at a time.

Oh fun for your dad’s neighborhood to have one too.

We had a cat get into someone’s basement while they were in Europe. Luckily, she got stuck in there on the last day or so of their trip.

Maybe the kitty was your guardian angel in the form of a cat knowing you just needed a little snuggle, to be watched out for and a tiny little happy moment at such a difficult time. Happy you are finished chemo and are feeling up to doing some things.

Kath, don’t let some of the less than thrilling comments from ruining your creativity. I think adding personality and a story to your bears is cute! You’ve got a children’s story book in the making here (maybe a blog chronicling the bear’s adventures for children!) My husband and I have a similar inside joke with a stuffed Pixar character from Monsters, Inc. Sully has adopted us, or, as I should say, he has become my husband’s partner in crime! I’ve gone on trips to find Sully hidden in my suitcase. He’s traveled around the world!
