Sleepless in Charlottesville

I had no trouble falling asleep last night – zonk, hit the pillow, zzzz.

But at 5:45 this morning I was wide awake and thinking about the bakery! I think for a week or maybe a month it’s going to take over my brain quite a bit. Just all the newness. But I will hopefully settle back into normal brain function soon.

I debated going for a run but even though I was wide awake, I was still pretty sleepy, so I decided not to. Instead, I made Great Harvest Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal!

IMG_0775Blog

Our oatmeal mixes have something magical about them. This took longer than normal to cook (although I decided to put the banana on top instead of inside so that may have been the change) and the texture is so FLUFFY you just couldn’t believe it. Like silk!

IMG_0782BlogIMG_0769Blog

I topped the bowl with half a super ripe banana, Grandma Candy’s Jam, Smucker’s Natural and ground flax

IMG_0778Blog

Cool coffee.

Matt’s still sound asleep and I’m leaving him there till noon at least.

So excited to read about the opening and wish I lived closer! My kids have a 1/2 day of school on Wednesday and I have planned a little after-school lunch field trip to the Lexington, MA Great Harvest — it’s the closest location to us. I received 2 shipments from Open Sky this week — the Pestos and the Marinades. So excited to try them this week!! Keep the suggestions coming! Oh, and I noticed, since I started reading your blog, that I now look at my plate at every meal and consider how well it would photograph! You’ve inspired me to pull out some long-forgotten linens and eclectic bowls & plates. Fun departure from the standard white dinnerware.

Our Whole Foods did the SAME thing when a new location opened and there was literally a line almost 1/4 mile long outside of the store to get in for the 50% off sale! No joke, it was INSANITY – I am sooo curious to hear about your experience 😀

Was the line over a mile? 😉

It looks like you are having so much fun!! If you decide you would like to ship items I would take a granola, the cinnamon raisin oatmeal, honey. Do you know if any of the other great harvest ships those items the oatmeal sounds great, is it made with all whole foods ingredients?

    Have a great day!

Hi Kath, longtime reader here, I don’t comment much, but I can totally relate to your “nightmares”…
If they are anything like the ones that I have whenever I start a new waitress job, you imagine that customers are surrounding your bed, and you are trying to serve them but are embarrassed that you are in your PJs (or less!) and trying to tell them “BUT TODAY IS MY DAY OFF!!”
It’s terrifying! But maybe yours were different 😉

Did you get anything good from WF? I went over there at 7:30 this morning to wait in the line & it was nuts. I got a lot of bars that I eat frequently, cereal (want some Kashi?) & a few frozen things. I got lucky & everyone was really nice but there were some rude people showing up when I left. Almost all the nut butters were gone too 🙁
