This morning’s tourism walk was great – while the temps are nearing 90*, it feels almost fallish outside. Not as humid today. We hiked all through UVA and to the Corner and back for just over an hour. Walking is such great exercise!
Mealtime
I made a jolly ole salad (not to be confused with a regular salad!)
Lettuce, tomato, avocado, cranberries, sunflower seeds, organic cheddar cheese tossed in balsamic vinegar, olive oil, sea salt and lemon
Matt made us sandwiches under the broiler. Mine had melted cheese, tomato, lettuce and mustard.
Lunch was enjoyed by all
Larbs is Amtraking her way to DC today, so we made one final pit stop before dropping her off at the station: Arches for gooey brownie!
COME VISIT just to eat this!! It’s basically just safe-to-consume brownie batter. Gritty and thick and incredible.
They loved it!
Karen included!
Word.
Come back soon Larbs!
I’ve got TWO hours to relax before our next event.
The couch is calling!

Holy cow… brownie batter? I need to get me some of that. Looks like heaven.
I love any kind of batter. Sometimes I make batter just to eat it. Why bother baking when batter is so good?
It feels nothing like fall here. I’m so jealous!
BROWNIE BATTER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? I need to make that at home!
Oh be still my heart. That brownie batter stuff looks out of this world. As does your salad with all those awesomely clean, healthy ingredients!
Isn’t it sad when good friends leave? Parting is such sweet sorrow.
I know you’re a busy, busy lady but I hope you can drop my blog sometime.
Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back to see your gorgeous blog photos soon!
Wooah that brownie stuff looks like the most rich incredible tasting thing ever! I want some
Have a good afternoon/relax!
i basically had the exact same lunch (except different toppings on the salad) weird!
I love that fork picture
That brownie batter stuff looks amazing! Hope you have a great afternoon!
Kath,
I just finished Ahab’s Wife. You had recommended it a few weeks ago. Excellent book! It was probably the longest book I’ve ever read but writing was so good you just wanted to swim in her words! I felt like Una and I became friends. What an incredible character!
Looooove that book!!
Gooey brownie! That looks amazing…
Enjoy your 2 hours of free time!
I love not-safe-to-consume brownie batter
Karen looks so cute in her jogging shorts!
Mmm, that batter looks EPIC! I have such a hard time baking brownies because I always want to just eat the batter right from the bowl!
Mmm that batter sounds delicious. My favorite part of being a vegan baker is definitely the safe taste tests.
And the new site looks very nice!
As much as I’m a chocoholic, that salad is really calling my name here. I’m looking forward to cooler weather for many reasons, one being more lettuce from the garden and/or farmers’ markets!
I use to eat that all the time when I was in graduate school. So glad I have moved far, far away from it! It didn’t help that I could walk there any old (stressed out) time!
There’s nothing like a nice little nap in the afternoon atop the couch….enjoy!
holi gamoli that brownie batter looks deeelish! hope larbs has a safe trip homeyo! x
When I am there for the 10k, it may be a bit cold, (Oct.) but I definitely want to try Arches!
Oh my – that dessert looks amazing. Maybe I should open a store like that in kentucky? hehe
Jolly ol’ salads are SO much better than regular salads!
Oh my goodness, that brownie batter looks delicious, wow!
omg. brownie batter that’s deemed appropriate for scarfing down?
SIGN ME UP
wowww I have never seen anything like that!!!! I love your simple ole sandwich ingredients!
next time ask for brownie batter on the side— you get so much more!!
I did!! This is half of that – shared with Karen.
Wow.. brownie batter. They really need to get a place that serves that where I live.
Ahhh brownie batter! Amazing!
Looks like you had a great time with your sister. YUM! Brownie batter, well I guess you know how to treat your guests before they leave! You know she will be back for more!
Hey! So I’m not sure where you live but some great places to pick up the Rivanna trail are…
Behind the Bodo’s Bagels on 29 north (Emmett st.)
The bottom left corner of the parking lot at North Grounds near the park (where intramural sports are played)
Out by Fontaine Research Park, on either side of Fontaine

Another great (flat) place to run is near Pantops, at a park called “Darden Towe”
Hope this helps :]
Thanks!!!! And great timing – we might hike tomorrow!
hello brownie batter. i must have that!
I love the embracing forks lol. It’s almost sexual. :p
I’m not sure I could eat that large a thing of brownie batter, although I wouldn’t mind trying.
I WANT THAT! GIMMEGIMMEGIMME!
I want to go to there! Safe brownie batter by the cup is right up my alley since whenever I make brownies, just a spoonful (or 5) makes me sick to my belly!
The dance team I was on in high school used to have huge slumper parties and eat brownie batter (minus the egg) with potato chips haha soooo not healthy but a great mix of salty and sweet
Nomnomnom!! I was just thinking this morning how *incredible* batter is..or dough. Any kind, cookie, cake, brownies, even some breads..mmmmm
brownie batter? holy crap. that’s amazing.
I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten batter like that before that I shouldn’t have!
That looks totally deluxe! Nice sandwich too. There was a Great Harvest in my town and it just went out of business last year. It is replaced with a place called Red Hen Bread (3 locations in the Chicago area) and it sucks a$$ compared to Great Harvest!
wow that looks amazing!! I wonder how you could recreate that at home???
Who wouldn’t love thick brownie batter.
I cannot imagine going somewhere, other than my kitchen, and ordering straight brownie batter! Divine!
Here’s another fun outdoor activity! Hiking Monticello is a blast. There’s a bunch of stuff to do there, but when my brother went to grad school at UVA we hiked up and toured Jefferson’s house. Check it out!
Mmm…brownie batter! It’s definitely the best kind of batter there is!
Oh my GAH–that brownie batter has me drooling all over my keyboard. I need to get a hold of myself.
Enjoy your couch time, you deserve it
I used to eat brownie batter by the spoonful as a kid. Thank goodness I’m still still alive to tell the tale…haha. I love the idea that this place makes “safe to eat” brownie batter. I would love to relive how wonderful it tastes.
Eating the batter is always the best part of making baked goods! Unfortunately I have bad memories of eating way too much Pilsbury cookie dough one time.
I loooove arch’s and have been known it eat for dinner. I lived here for 2 years before I discovered arch’s. also love the new sweetfrog fro yo place on the downtown mall, though there’s no gooey brownie greatness
Omg – it’s warm brownie batter in a cup! Looks so good – I am guessing it is only available where you live though…too far of a drive for me (or my parents!)
I still can’t believe I never went to Archer’s despite living in Charlottesville for almost a year. Why didn’t anyone tell me about the brownie batter?!
are you KIDDING me with that batter??!
nice new header, by the way!
That brownie batter looks amazing! There’s a place by me that has egg-free cookie dough to scoop on top of your ice cream. I love the concept of making those guilty pleasures safe to eat!
WHUUUUUUUUT? People actually sell edible brownie batter? I WANT SOME. Ever heard of protein brownie batter? I think I saw it at FoodsofApril.com… I’ll go look it up.
Found it! Here you go:

What IS that stuff!??! It looks amazing, whatever it is!
I want that brownie batter!! Straight up, don’t even need the froyo! Ok, maybe that too.
Jenn
After reading your blogs for over a week now (and becoming so engrossed in them that I check back every day to see/read updates!) I had to search for the closest Great Harvest near us. To my dismay, there was one right down the street at a Farmer’s Market every Saturday! So my husband and I ventured out on our bikes this morning and rode the 25 minutes to get there. I have to say it was worth every one of those enormous hills we had to bike to get there (and back). I tried the cinnamon raisin walnut bread and was floored at how delicious it was!! So thank you. I am now hooked on GHB.
Makes me so happy
