It be a pancake morning, mon!
Kodiak cakes made with salty peanuts and chia seeds, topped with banana, Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter, more salty peanut, more chias and a drizzle of maple!
One serving of Kodiaks goes a long way!
With a side of vanilla scented coffee
We do not have a furry animal gracing our floors, but we do have a new rug!
Karen’s sisal rug from her condo was HUGE – 15 x 12′ and she had it cut down to fit in her new place. We got the leftovers! Awesomely, it came out to be a pretty big hunk of rug!
Here’s our new hand-me-own entertainment center (which is really not a hand-me-down at all because it’s super nice – she just didn’t have space for it). So now practically our entire living room has come from one of Karen’s living spaces (the couch and chairs were in her living room many years ago)
Thanks Karen!!
Thanks also for our TV Emily + Casey! It is still buzzing on and off, but I am tolerating it in exchange for Glee and …wait for it….House Hunters!! Turns out my $10/mo basic cable included some HD channels that I didn’t know we’d get!! HGTV score!
Our oriental rug is now in the foyer. This came from my grandmother. (As did the green chair to the right that I had reupholstered last year). This house keeps a’changin’!
All of our sunshine of yesterday is again hiding behind the clouds. Makes for a good yoga day! Just hope I can make it there on bicycle.
Yesterday was videos, today is writing. Clickity-click!

Salty peanuts and banana and chia and pancakes…I wish I was eating that breakfast!!
Great entertainment centre thing, that looks awesome!
Those pancakes look great!
I just now noticed the pillows on the black/white chairs — those are from Pier 1 I believe. I worked there all through high school and college and I can’t help but spot those kinds of things
I bet Karen’s house is just beautifully decorated. Have you already shown her all moved in already?
I love the black and white striped couch! It looks both classic and contemporary!
Everything is coming together – it takes time to get settled into a new place. We probably changed things around in our house 75 times before we finally felt settled.
Everything looks great!
How awesome is that to get all that stuff!! House looks great
woops wrong website!!
Is Matt reading something good?
You home looks lovely! You would never know that room is all hand-me-downs!
Great rugs, looks very pretty!
I love pancake mornings, I had pancakes this morning as well!
those pancakes look mouthwateringly amazing! banana and peanut is one of my favorite flavor combos. nice one.
Your kodiak cakes always make me hungry! Great job on the decorating. Your tv area and rug look great! Have a fantastic day
Your house looks great! All your “hand me down” stuff sure looks awesome in that room. And yesss house hunters!! Exciting
Adding salty peanuts to pancakes sounds delicious, will have to try that sometime.
Your breakfast looks amazing! Man, I wish I was eating that instead of toast. lol.
Wow– I can’t believe that’s the rug, CUT DOWN!! It must have been huge!
HGTV is probably the only station that I miss since we got rid of our cable. My husbands favorite is Holmes on Homes; I love House Hunters.
I wondered where you got your couch and chairs. My couch is almost identical to your chairs. I had it recovered a few years ago and was worried at first the print would be too busy, but I love it. Black & white is so versatile.
That is such a nice TV Stand! Don’t you love nice quality hand me downs?
My boyfriend and I got our couch when my friend was going to donate it to Salvation Army. It is a super nice Lazy-Boy and probably cost upward of $800! It is in great shape!
I am in the mood for pancakes today also.
The rug fits in perfectly in your living room! And $10 a month cable?! What’s that?!! I’ve never heard of such a low cable bill……maybe it’s because all we can get out in the country where we live is satellite service which is about 5 times as much:(
Love all the furniture from Karen…how great is it having a mother-in-law with great taste?!
All the things from Karen look really great in your house!
Good luck with the writing
Your place is really coming together – you are so lucky to have someone with great taste giving you furniture!
Love pancakes – they are more of a weekend treat for us though.
mmm, pancakes! love love love those placemats.
how good was glee last night???
you’ll have to get hooked on bravo tv and of course, the food network!
HATEDDDDDD Glee last night!! It was stupid and the songs were awful except for Toxic
are these high chairs in the middle of the living room? or a really cool looking sorta coffee table?!
they are little stools from IKEA – $5 a piece and they’re awesome as a coffee table!
That rug looks like you picked it out yourself for the room. It looks awesome!
i’ll have to have some kodiac cakes soon! do you ever add anything to the actual batter?
Just water!
The placemat and breakfast setting looks especially nice today! I don’t know if it’s the colors or the Kodiak..
I love your house- so organized but cozy at the same time. It’s amazing how you’ve put together such an elegant interior design with hand-me-downs!
Quality hand-me-downs are such a great way to furnish a house. You usually get better quality than most of the trendy, cheap furniture — stuff that will last more than 5-10 years — and the price is right!
Haha- those rugs are definately not fuzzy! We had one growing up and while they’re not the best to sit on, they are so gorgeous. Ours had an awesome smell too…y’all are so lucky to have inherited it!!
Oh-and don’t let a dog poo on it = horrible to clean up :/
Breakfast looks delicious! Your living room looks great too! As for the tv, if it is a plasma, then it will buzz. Our does the same thing…it can be annoying, but once you start listening to the show or music, then you don’t really notice it.
i love the rug! where do you go to get a rug cut down?
Floor Fashions in Charlottesville, VA
I read a good portion of this post with a Jamaican accent in my head, because of the “mon” at the beginning. Just saying.
Ha, yay!
OK, I can’t take it anymore! Your pictures and posts about Kodiak cakes are driving me nuts! I think I’ve figured out what I’m going to use my September OpenSky coupon on! Can’t wait!!
I really love that entertainment center. You need a flat screen on that thing, though!
It IS a flat screen!
isn’t it fun when you get an unexpected happy surprise, like your bonus HGTV! that’s cool! if i had to pick, say, only five tv channels, that would make the cut (and food network, bien sur!)
love your living room! looks very much like your blog personality (haha, can’t say “looks like you” as i don’t personally know you!)
Love the new rug and the entertainment center looks great! I love that it doesnt take away from the coziness of the room.
that rug looks great! that’s awesome that it was free too…usually rugs that size are WAY expensive!
salty peanuts! Now that’s one topping I haven’t tried yet! Might even have to give that a whirl on my oats!
Cathy B. @ brightbakes
Wow – I’d like some hand-me-downs like that! What a score:) Have a good yoga sesh!
I adore the black and white furniture! Your home is so stylish. The rugs look great as well, and even better that you inherited them! Absolutely lovely.
Unfortunately there’re no Kodiak mixes in my local stores. Have you ever made baked oatmeal, and any recommended recipes?
Yeah, check the recipes page
maybe you’ve already tested this method and were not impressed… but “iced coffee cubes” are lovely to cool your coffee to desired coolness AND keep it all… coffee flavored. we just use our left over coffee and freeze it up : >
I tested them and didn’t think they were worth the trouble to make. Yeah, you can just use leftover coffee, but that usually gets consumed in our house too fast!
i love how matt is patiently waiting/reading in the background for you to take your bfast pics! haha! i love your new-to you rug! very cute!
That’s a leftover rug??? It looks great, did you have to add the green edgings??
Yeah, they cost $5 per foot to add
I can’t believe you got that much rug from leftovers – amazing!
Your living room looks gorgeous! I love the wood floors too. I was just thinking about how nice it would be to replace the carpet in our living room with wood.
Just ate my first kiwi with skin:)
Woo! And..
It was good. I will no longer mess around with trying to peel them.
love the new additions to your house!!!
Hi Kath! Long time reader. I’ve just started my own blog. Hope you will check it out. I plan to focus on general nutrition as well as tips for those with IBS! Have a great day!
I like all the funky prints that you have in your living room!
O yum! I never tried out Kodiak cakes. They look so good!
I really like the simple and clean look of the rug. Goes well with almost anything.
Breakfast sounds delicious! and the rug looks beautiful in the room!
Those are seriously loaded pancakes – impressive! I just love wood floors, and yours are beautiful.
Wow, Karen has great taste! You sure lucked out in the mother-in-law department!
Your new place is really beautiful! Things are really coming together.
Love the jamaican accent lol
Question – I’ve been looking at a sisal rug and considering buying one for my living room because of the neutral color and natural feel, BUT they seem itchy and uncomfortable. What are your thoughts?
It is a bit scratchy. I wouldn’t want to lay on it. But I don’t think it hurts or anything. And IKEA has one that’s pretty soft for only $120.
Cool. Thanks! I’ll have to check out the Ikea version.
i used to have rugs all over my place in nyc b/c it was required by the condo board – now that i don’t have anyone living under me, it’s all hardwood floors!
So I’m feeling you on both the squash issue and the gym issue. My body haaate things that are hard to digest; and it rebels in a big way! I also hate that my boyfriend never seems to have the seem reactions to the same foods that I do, so unfair! As for the gym, I recently quit my job but have been hesitant about quitting the gym, too. I will have a much more limited income working part-time, but have decided to keep the membership. Even though the yoga is definitely sub-par from real studios, having all the class options and access to the amenities definitely keeps me going through the winter months. Good choice
Looks great! Love the green border, & how it ties everything together. Area rugs + polished wood floors are so much better than wall-to-wall carpeting, IMHO.
That must have been a humungo rug!!
It looks nice, love the furniture, too.
You have the most adorable place mats! Can you recommend any places that sell such cute ones?
Thanks!
Most are from Crate + Barrel
Mmm, salty peanuts in sweet things is pretty much the yummiest thing ever.
Kath, do the Kodiak cakes contain wheat?
Yes, they are made with wheat flour
such cozy looking pictures
We have really gorgeous hardwood floors. I love them but in the winter time it gets pretty cold. As soon as the house remodel is completed I want to buy some big area rugs.
