Confetti Oats

October 2, 2009

I slept well last night and woke up ready to rock and roll. I’ve got two big projects I’ve been working on that I will be debuting in the next few days. I’m spending all morning working on them and then taking the afternoon off to play with Matt!

I piled on the creativity for breakfast and came up with quite the confetti bowl –

Yes, that third letter is an R!

For the base, I made a SIAB of sorts:

  • 1 container Oikos
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • Lots of cinnamon + pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds

=BLEND

[NOTE: Add sweetener if you like things sweet!]

Toppings included a tiny bit of each:

For the Maranatha, I played with a new toy: a Drizzle Stick by Fusionbrands that they sent for me to try out. They have so many cool tools on their site – and I love the videos!

IMG_4159 (640x427)

Obviously I thought of nut butters over oats for using this tool –

I stuffed some almond butter in the 1.5 tsp holder put it in a glass and nuked for 30 seconds

IMG_4164 (640x427)

It worked but only a little bit. I think the stick is really better suited for liquidy things

IMG_4165 (640x427)

I think I ate more off my fingers as I tried to push it in than I got drizzled into the bowl! I had to turn it inside out to get to the last bit. I will try this again though!

IMG_4166 (640x427)

Loved how thick the yogurt + pumpkin + milk + banana + chia part got. It was just like a pudding!

Happy Friday all!!

The cookie addition to this bowl is adorable!

I’m contemplating my own morning oats right now – there’s a can of butternut squash puree and a jar of maple syrup calling my name!

LOL, love the alphabet SIAB! That drizzle stick is so awesome! I have a wooden one for honey that I never used, but I guess it’s for more than just that. Neat. :)

I like that drizzle stick idea! Those Ikea cookies sound really good – if you don’t get lured by the random furniture/dishware at Ikea, you get lured by the food ;)

Have a great Friday!

Those cookies are adorable. I love the drizzlestick – I need to get one of those :-) I have this love of honey dippers and drizzlers. I use a chopstick to drizzle my almond and peanut butter and have a honey bear for my honey – it’s really fun!

Wow, what a smorgasbord of toppings! My poor oatmeal only had some brown sugar and pecans this morning…need raisins or cranberries ASAP! Love that drizzle stick, could think of lots of uses. Would probably be great to control and spread the amount of salad dressing too!! Will have to check it out..

Your SIABs always make me hungry. That thingamabob (Little Mermaid, anyone?) looks cool–but it’d prob end up wasting a lot of PB in the long run… Or just necessitate lots of gadget licking? Haha

Have a great Friday!

WOW that’s a creative breakfast! How long does it take you to put all that together (not including photo time, just meal prep). I don’t think I’d have the patience to get that fancy on a weekday morning…but then again, it’s not my job to do so ;-)

Hi Kath – just wanted to rave about the SIAB idea above. I just finished it off for breakfast and LICKED the bowl. The only change I made was the base was a peach Chobani which gave it just the perfect amount of sweetness!
Thanks for the great idea, I am hooked on SIAB!!
