January 15, 2011

After a relaxing shower and a super duper blog post, we met back up with Janna and Bobby for a walk through Bozeman and dinner. These guys are so nice, and although we hadn’t met in person until today, I felt like we’ve know them for ages : ) (Actually Laura ask me how long I’d know Janna earlier today and I told her we had just met that morning!)

Some Bozeman sightseeing. I think this is the one Montana town I could actually see myself living in (thanks to a nice array of cute restaurants!)

And friendly bears!

We couldn’t resist returning to Montana Ale Works for dinner! Last year it was a hit! And we all know what the beer fanatic voted for.

Cozy, great beer and even better food menu

I got a half pint of the Blackfoot River Scottish Ale – a tiny, slender glass. YUM!!!

The second half of my beer was another half pint of Bitter Root Brewing’s Winter Warmer. I love that 1/2 plus 1/2 equals one!

We all shared the Spicy Calamari for an appetizer

And for dinner…I finally got that Bison Burger! It felt like the right place to do it.

I smothered him in ketchup and mustard and cut him in half to share some with Matt. The burger was good, but not the best I’ve ever had. I think something on a Great Harvest bun tops the charts!

I upgraded my dinner to come with a side salad, which was nice.

After dinner, which we had EARLY, we walked to a chocolatier for dessert to pick up some fancy flavors

Salted Caramel Hibiscus

Coconut Almond

Rum Raisin

…and my favorite: CHAI!

They were all delish.

We are super cozy in the ever-FABULOUS Homewood Suites!!!!!!!!!!! I just LOOOOVE this hotel chain (always rave about the Davidson location!) Each room is like a studio apartment with a full size kitchen (too bad we won’t get the chance to do any cooking! If only we could have spent all of our training weeks here!) and also a super nice bathroom (with a glass shower this time!) and heavenly bed. I rarely have brand favorites, but I always look for a Homewood Suites when I travel now.

Goodnight guys!

I love apartment-esque hotel rooms! They usually aren’t pricier than regular hotel rooms too. Great photos despite the dark restaurant lighting!

2 Jenny January 15, 2011 at 11:07 pm

That’s one decadent burger! How’s the flavor of bison, I’ve never tried it.

3 Justeen @ Blissful Baking January 15, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Ohh those fancy chocolates look so good! Awesome flavors :)
Your hotel room is SO nice – I will definitely look for a Homewood Suites next time I travel!

4 Camille January 15, 2011 at 11:08 pm

9 Amalfi Girl January 15, 2011 at 11:19 pm

I love bison burger! I just posted earlier this month about an awesome bison burger I got at Half Moon Restaurant and Saloon :)

BTW, your pics of the food need romantic tunes in the background–they are that gorgeous.

10 Kat January 15, 2011 at 11:28 pm

The photos you took in the restaraunt look beautiful.
Wish I could be in your hotel room right now eating those chocolates!

11 Leila @ Spinach and Skittles January 15, 2011 at 11:34 pm

Chai chocolate?!? YUM! That hotel looks really nice too. Have fun in Bozeman!

12 Amanda (Eating Up) January 15, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Good tip on Homewood Suites! Sounds like a good night.

13 Hannah January 16, 2011 at 12:02 am

Oh my, that spicy calamari look aMAZing! Even better than the chocolate, and that’s coming from someone who blogs about chocolate half the time 😉

14 Amy K. @ Healthy Peanut January 16, 2011 at 12:25 am

You have made me a Great Harvest lover. Really, how did I get along before!

15 CoCo Wray January 16, 2011 at 12:28 am

So glad your week was great, and ending with a good celebration is even better! I agree on HWS. When we first moved to Raleigh, we were bunked up in a luxury room for 3 weeks until we found a place.

16 Christin@purplebirdblog January 16, 2011 at 12:59 am

That suite looks so cozy and welcoming!!

17 Maryann January 16, 2011 at 1:00 am

A hotel can almost make or break a trip. Glad you found a good one!

18 Stephanie January 16, 2011 at 1:41 am

That calamari looks awesome!

19 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) January 16, 2011 at 2:29 am

I would love to stay in one of those hotels! I miss having a kitchen already :)

20 Ellie @ The Mommyist January 16, 2011 at 3:36 am

I have always loved all things hibiscus but I never imagined a Salted Caramel Hibiscus. I’m going to have to keep my eyes out for something similar here in Portland.

21 Reb January 16, 2011 at 4:04 am

I used to live in Bozeman…your pictures really make me miss it. Such a great place to live..enjoy every minute while you are there. If you need some good coffee in the morning you should check out The Daily Coffee Bar (N. Rouse & Oak S), they serve locally roasted, organic fairtrade coffees, not to mention they have the best scones in town! Enjoy!

22 CathyK @ January 16, 2011 at 6:37 am

glad you got your bison!!
i “homewood suite’d” my way around florida this summer and was totally impressed with the suites – and in a normal price range. and all the ones i stayed in were super clean!
enjoy your sunday!

23 Cara Craves... January 16, 2011 at 6:41 am

The atmosphere of that restaurant looks great!

24 Allie January 16, 2011 at 7:44 am

Chai chocolate?! Ahhh, that sounds super amazing :) The bison burger looks awesome as well, I have always wanted to try either bison or elk 😀 Glad you liked your hotel and had a nice dinner!

25 Lauren at KeepItSweet January 16, 2011 at 7:45 am

i love bison burgers and don’t eat them often enough!

26 Emily January 16, 2011 at 7:47 am

I love fancy schmancy chocolates! So fun! And a bison burger? That is going on my list of things to try…and soon.

27 kelly January 16, 2011 at 8:08 am

I love Bozeman! Thankfully it is jusr right for a weekend get away for us. Have a great time!

28 Hannah @ Alimental January 16, 2011 at 8:16 am

My husband and I love that hotel too! We stayed at the one in Seattle last summer.

Just in case you’re interested, my apricot walnut apple cookies are currently featured on Freshly Pressed, the front page of WordPress.

29 Haleigh January 16, 2011 at 8:21 am

I’m not really a fan of beer (unless it’s pumpkin beer ;)) but that burger looks awesome! Although, I have to agree… GH bread could make the burger even better!

30 Courtney January 16, 2011 at 8:25 am

Candlewood Suites is part of the Holiday Inn brand and also have full-size kitchenettes…just in case a Homewood Suites isn’t available.

P.S. Candlewood Suites has the best bedding I’ve ever slept in!

31 Kath January 16, 2011 at 9:46 am

Oh good to know!!! Why would anyone NOT stay in these awesome hotels if they had a choice!?

32 Jessica January 16, 2011 at 8:30 am

Oh gosh! I just realized (thanks, Google Maps!) that the ski resort, Big Sky Montana, is smack dab in the middle between Dillon and Bozeman! :) Now husband and I have even more of a reason to go there. The only thing holding us back before was the airfare, it seems to get a little pricey.

33 Simply Life January 16, 2011 at 8:32 am

oh that does look like a great place to stay! Good to know!

34 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) January 16, 2011 at 8:34 am

Oh goodness. I would so *love* to live in Montana as well. So pretty and quaint and country all at the same time! 😀

35 Anne (butter and bear) January 16, 2011 at 9:00 am

I totally agree with you about the Homewood Suites. Their beds are amazing!

36 Heather January 16, 2011 at 9:10 am

I have never seen a Homewood Suites!

I would have picked a salted caramel chocolate – love that combo.

37 Nicole @ yuppie yogini January 16, 2011 at 9:32 am

My college roommate lives in Bozeman and loves it. She posts the most beautiful pictures on Facebook of her hiking–that area is so pristine.

38 stacey-healthylife January 16, 2011 at 9:49 am

Nice hotel. Love the chocolates and the unique flavors.

39 Liz @ Tip Top Shape January 16, 2011 at 10:00 am

Cute restaurants definitely make a city! That’s what I love about living in Chicago. So many great dining options!

40 Kacie (Nonexistent Colors) January 16, 2011 at 10:09 am

Ahhhh you’re in Bozeman!!! That’s where I did my undergrad at in Nutrition at MSU!! I am from Livingston (just 30 mins away). If you guys get a chance, go to the Rib and Chop House in Livingston!!!! DELISH!!!!! I miss Montana terribly, so glad you guys are enjoying it!!

FYI, good coffee shops = Wild Joes, Home Page, and The Leaf and Bean.

PLONK is a must!!! Also Over the Tapas is my favorite restaurant there!! Best Sangria I’ve ever had, hands down!!

Bauccus is a great bar too, they also serve food!!

Enjoy the mountains!

41 Stacy @ Every Little Thing January 16, 2011 at 10:30 am

We love Homewood Suites too! Spent 2009 NYE in them for a good week! Did some shopping at Trader Joe’s and filled the kitchen. Loved it!

42 Amanda @ Just Amanda J January 16, 2011 at 10:30 am

I hear bison burgers are really good but I’ve never had the chance to have one. I’ve also never tried fancy chocolates like that, hibiscus? I’m so intrigued!

43 Rae January 16, 2011 at 11:09 am

LOVE homewood suites! Did yours have the complimentary dinner reception, too? When we visited San Fran, we got free breakfasts and dinners! Score!

44 Kath January 16, 2011 at 11:10 am

We were JUST reading the menus! Unfortunately it’s only Mon-Thurs. I am SO bummed we couldn’t stay here the whole time!

45 Melissa @ For the Love of Health January 16, 2011 at 11:33 am

I love chocolate from a chocolatier! The last time I indulged was in NYC in May.
What a gorgeous looking hotel! :-)

46 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) January 16, 2011 at 12:42 pm

Thanks for the heads up on the Homewood Suites! I’ll be sure to look for them. Having a kitchen is always a plus. :)

47 Katelyn January 16, 2011 at 12:44 pm

Rum raisin and chai sound amazing! It’s only past noon and I already want chocolate;)

I love hotel rooms that are like apartments! One time, my family and I stayed in a hotel room that actually had two floors (with stairs!) like a townhouse! It was by far my favorite hotel experience:)

48 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin January 16, 2011 at 12:46 pm

I’ve stayed at Homewood Suites before and you’re right – the beds are SO comfy!!

49 Elizabeth@The Sweet Life January 16, 2011 at 12:59 pm

Looks like you’re having such a great trip!

50 Katelyn January 16, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Your walk in the Montana cold just gave me the last bit of inspiration I needed to venture outside in my neighborhood for a brisk walk, thanks!

51 Maria @ The Fitted Apron January 16, 2011 at 2:39 pm

52 Krissy January 16, 2011 at 3:31 pm

Mmm salted caramel! Great post, Bozeman looks fun!

53 Tee January 16, 2011 at 3:57 pm

A lot of my in-laws live in the Montana area so it’s been really fun getting to see all the wonderful Montana pics. Love Bozeman and we’ve always had great food at Montana Ale Works. I’m a big fan of the community food co-op there too, wish we could pack it in our bags and take it home with us. :)

54 Natasha January 16, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Bozeman = paradise.

55 kelsey January 16, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I love Bozeman! I was just there last Thursday for a great yoga class at Be The Change yoga studio. Lots of fun shops, huh?
