A Spoonful Of Butter

May 16, 2011

I think Smoothie In A Bowls are equally as delicious as oatmeal to me! I put oats in bowl, so they’re really just oats in a different form :) I updated the Tribute To Oatmeal page yesterday with all the latest concoctions, but I think I need a page for SIABs too!

This bowl was full of clumps of garden-fresh strawbs, coconut butter, sunflower butter and some Hemp Plus granola. There is nothing more delicious than chewy clumps floating in a creamy melted-ice cream liquid!!

Maybe clusters of butter[flies]

Strawberry Banana SIAB

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • Handful strawberries
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 date (first time trying this and I forgot about it until just now!)
  • Toppings: Hemp Plus granola, Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter, and the last bits of my coconut butter jar, more strawberries!

A sample of Gunpowder Green tea – still too bitter!

 Happy Birthday Angela!!

I worked last night into the evening to finish up some freelance work so the week is now wide open to taking care of bakery business. But first, Body Pump!

You are making my tastebuds jump ten meters high:)

3 Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out May 16, 2011 at 8:19 am

Thanks for updating the page. I refer to it often.

And green tea is always bitter. I’m just not a fan, but I drink it anyways because of the health benefits.

I’m excited to see what the bakery holds this week!!!

I love smoothies in a cup or a bowl, even though I have never had one in a bowl! A smoothie would brighten my morning right about now!

5 Holly @ The Runny Egg May 16, 2011 at 8:19 am

I’ve been making the same smoothie every day for the past few months — and I need to switch it up. I think I’ll make this tomorrow!

Yum! That looks delicious. I loooove eating my smoothies with a spoon. I’m a texture girl, so lots of different textures in one meal make it so much more fun and interesting for me!

YUM! What a tasty and cheerful breakfast to start off the week… Good luck making continued progress with the bakery this week! :)

8 Stacy @ Every LIttle Thing May 16, 2011 at 8:25 am

Love this concoction! We just got a bunch of strawberries from a local farm – I’m so making this for breakfast!

Have a great day!

9 Danielle @ weightsandmeasures May 16, 2011 at 8:26 am

I have already been to Body Pump this morning. You know how you said it seems like each class you feel challenged in a different area, even when you do not change your weight. Well, I feel the same. Today triceps were especially hard and shoulders seemed easy. Just never know!

10 Katherina May 16, 2011 at 8:27 am

Your green tea is brown! Haha. I work in a teahouse and still don’t enjoy gunpowder – but a trick is to not use so hot water and watch it steep. If you’re using looseleaf then you can see when the pellets unfurl and it’s done steeping. If you’re doing a teabag then just experiment with the time you steep it, you can go as low as a minute if the water is really hot.

*sigh* you make me miss Body Pump so much!

I just tried your Strawberry Dough Boy smoothie this weekend for the first time. The clumps of coconut butter were my fav :)

12 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat May 16, 2011 at 8:30 am

Looks like a lovely breakfast Kath!! Good luck with all things bakery related this week!

13 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) May 16, 2011 at 8:31 am

You sound chipper this morning! Great way to start the week! I hope you have a great one Kath!

14 Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) May 16, 2011 at 8:32 am

your bowl of buttery goodness looks fabulous!

and i swear I have some butterfly towels that are really similar to yours (except mine are like 2-3 yrs old…they sit at the bottom of my props box and i forget to use them…ha!)

have a great week and good luck with the bakery stuff…glad you got your projects cleared off a bit so that it’s just full steam ahead with bakery opening jazz!

15 Anastasia May 16, 2011 at 8:34 am

Your smoothie in a bowl looks delicious! I also love the gunpowder tea. I think the bitterness is my favorite part :]

16 Liv @ The Salty n' Sweet May 16, 2011 at 8:34 am

I’ll definitely take a spoonful of butter over a spoon of sugar any day!

My friends and family always think my love for melted ice cream is gross, but I actually look forward to reaching the bottom of my ice cream bowl and spoonin’ up the melted stuff. It tastes just like a milkshake!

17 Angela (Oh She Glows) May 16, 2011 at 8:44 am

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Love the butterfly tea towel. :)

18 M May 16, 2011 at 8:54 am

just from my opinion as a die hard gunpowder green tea drinker,
your cup of tea looks too dark ,as in steeped a touch too long.
If my tea gets that dark I find it too bitter and undrinkable too…

don’t give up on it yet(I also found certain kinds too bitter and once
I settled on ones i liked, like Numi Gunpowder green and Twinings Gunpowder Green,
I only will drink those two!!!)

19 Hope May 16, 2011 at 9:05 am

Delicious looking smoothie!! :) I love the butterfly towel! Every time I see butterflies anywhere I always think of my mom. She loves butterflies, so I’m always sure to get her something with butterflies on them :)

20 Claire @ Live and Love to Eat May 16, 2011 at 9:30 am

Smoothies are great but the addition of nut butters really put them over the top – and keep me much more satisfied!

21 Khushboo May 16, 2011 at 9:30 am

I’m definitely going to finally try a SIAB this week – the ice cream bit was enough to seal the deal!

22 Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) May 16, 2011 at 9:36 am

I <3 strawberry smoothies… I am going to have to try them in a bowl, looks like dessert :)

23 Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope May 16, 2011 at 10:15 am

Love that smoothie – and you always do have the best toppings! Looks fabulous! Have a great time at Body Pump this morning!

I am going to my local GH today for the first time. I have to admit, I’m super excited to check it out :)

28 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) May 16, 2011 at 11:41 am

So glad there is a smoothie in a bowl page! That’s been my lunch every day :)

29 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey May 16, 2011 at 11:59 am

I love smoothies, but not for breakfast. I love them for lunch!

30 Squill May 16, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I don’t know how you brew your green tea, but if you want it to not be bitter than using the right temperature water is really important. I read somewhere that the water should be just hot enough that it’s giving off steam and maybe bubbling, but not boiling hot. It also gets bitter if you let it steep for too long.

Hope that helps! Jealous of your strawberry patch, btw :)

31 Jess. May 16, 2011 at 12:13 pm

I have never really liked the idea of a smoothie in a bowl for some reason but now that you describe it as an ice cream like liquid with toppings, I just can’t wait to try it!

32 Jackie Smith May 16, 2011 at 12:29 pm

gunpowder green tea tastes of fish. blech.

33 M May 17, 2011 at 7:02 am

Ooo, I love it! But it tok me a while to find the best way to make it plus the
brands that were yummy!

34 Jamie May 16, 2011 at 12:32 pm

Even though green tea is typically bitter-ish, I’ve heard that most types can become too bitter if brewed with water that is too hot! (Needs to be cooled down a bit from boiling) Maybe this was the issue?

35 Namaste Gurl May 16, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Please tell me where you got that pretty yellow bowl– LOVE IT :)

36 KathEats May 16, 2011 at 4:52 pm

It was an OpenSky deal – the Calibowl!

37 Emma (Namaste Everyday) May 16, 2011 at 7:12 pm

yum those strawberries look like little gifts from heaven!

38 Sophie May 16, 2011 at 8:02 pm

Silly question — but do you cook the oats at all first in your SIABs? Or do they get soft enough just by being in milk? Thanks!

And btw, I completely agree with one of your last posts where you said you like warm strawberries better than cold. Today I just added a handful to my oatmeal while it was cooking — they got super soft and yummy and the whole bowl of oatmeal tasted fab!

39 KathEats May 16, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Nope! They’re never cooked unless I say, and if I do say, I’ll probably make a big deal out of it!

40 Hannah May 16, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I’ve spent more time than I should have at work today planning a SIAB for dinner tonight 😛
