Winter In July

IMG_2856Blog

Some mornings I wake up with so much energy. Others I’m quite slow. I think I got too much sleep last night! I got in bed to read at 9 and was doing the whole “eyes drowsy and jumping back awake” thing by 9:38 when I finally turned off the light. Even waking up to my alarm at 6:26 I still feel like that was too much!

Perhaps I should have set it for 5:26!?

IMG_2844Blog

Nevertheless, I had a wintertime breakfast today. Not sure why I was in the mood for a big bowl of muffiny oats – and even hot coffee! My wintertime staples. But I actually had pre-brewed cold coffee that I brought home from Great Harvest – half caf, half decaf, already brewed and mixed! So cold coffee it was.

Also, no sweating in this to-go coffee cup that was once an OpenSky promo!

IMG_2849Blog

My oats were a wonderful blend of Scottish oats, milk, banana, chia seeds, cottage cheese, blueberries, Red, White & Blueberry muffin, and sunflower butter drizzle

IMG_2852BlogIMG_2847Blog

Really couldn’t ask for a more perfect breakfast! Filling too!

IMG_2851Blog

My mom brought me this linen at our 4th party. It smells just like my grandmother! (It was hers)

IMG_2854BlogIMG_2843Blog

If you like chewy clusters of raw things, you’ll want to check here!!

Have a lovely day!

I’ve been having trouble with the night time reading. I am reading The Hunger Games.. and I am finding it hard to STOP reading. I end up staying awake way longer then I intended to..and am exhausted when the old alarm goes off!

What are your tips and tricks for actually getting to bed at such a nice early hour? We keep saying we need to get to bed earlier to we get more sleep, but in the end, we’re lucky if lights are out by 11 most nights 🙁

We made some red, white, and blueberry coffeecake on Saturday morning — delicious!

I don’t think there are really any tips involved – just turn off the TV, computer, DVR and get in bed! If you’re still doing chores and stuff at 11pm, then I don’t think I could really recommend anything without a look at your entire weekly schedule

Kath, I’m really getting into The House at Riverton. I was up at 4:30 and was able to read up to 189. Early morning seems to be a lot easier for me to focus than trying to stay awake at night lately. I need to read Bankers quickly before the kids get up and I my “work” day officially begins. I love old linens and the smells that linger with them. Last night I read an old book of mine with my daughter that we had found in the garage, but it smelled a little too dusty and musty! Have a wonderful day!

Oh man those Younger Bars look AWESOME. What’s the texture like – are they similar to a Probar?

I’m loving your bowl of oats…I’ve been craving a big bowl of muffin-y oats lately too but haven’t been able to bring myself to do with this heat. Hopefully a rainy morning will come around soon so I can dig in.

I adore that linen your mom gave you – it’s an extra bonus that it smells like your grandmother 🙂 My grandmother has such a distinct, comforting smell. As soon as I walk into her house it just hits me and I feel so happy.

Sometimes I wake up in the peak of summer and crave a “winter” breakfast complete with hot coffee, too. And then I realize it’s already 80* outside, and have to talk myself through the logic of this idea when one lives in an un-air conditioned apartment…ha! 😉 Usually my brain wins, but every now and again I’ll sweat through my steaming cup of joe!

    Hey Kath-

I used to bike to work every day when I worked at GH because I could easily transition to my shorts/tshirt/headband look. I now work in a more professional setting and am going to start biking to work again. Luckily, it is a block from GH and I can take the same 3 mile bike path. Not far at all, but far enough to break a sweat! Any suggestions or tricks on how to go from bike-to-office?

Jealous you have a bike path!

I’m not a good person to ask because I just arrive to work all sweaty and wet. Sometimes I go stand in the walk-in cooler to cool down a bit. You could definitely bring some wet clothes to wipe off and a change of clothes if you get too too hot. But I just cool off slowly!

Apparently (per Tim Ferris’s book!), often times the sluggish feeling after a long night’s sleep comes from low blood sugar, having not eaten for 10-12 hours!
