Walking Is Wonderful

Still figuring this bizness out. Guf.

I decided I didn’t have the energy for a full workout day (I was supposed to go to early AM yoga with Emily but had to cancel ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ), so I went for a walk. I walked for an hour 15 minutes, talking on my phone most of the time about our predicament.

The walk itself was awesome. I should just walk more! I covered 3.6 miles. Not bad! I took my Camelbak, which was a very wise decision.

How I feel today:

IMAG0037

Once home and showered…

I felt like greens, but wasn’t in a salad mood.

Enter Charlottesville collards and kale!

First I browned a slice of EarthFare bacon

IMG_7921 (640x427)

Then added the greens, torn and washed, along with a 2″ rectangle of tempeh. Added the crockpot lid to help keep in the steam.

IMG_7920 (640x427) (2)

And heated up some beans

IMG_7922 (640x427) (2)

Topped with gorgonzola and avocado and a drizzle of Garlic Gold. I haven’t had a hot lunch like this in ages!

IMG_7926 (640x427) (2)

Aside from a constant state of nausea today, it tasted great ๐Ÿ™‚

What kills me the most is this whole lease issue is taking the glow out of our move to Cville. I’m excited, but it won’t be the same if we lose our location. I will have to find joy in the small things. Like setting up a new kitchen!

We’ve got more calls to make. Hoping for a fruity snack and a fun dinner with friends tonight.

PS. Thanks so much for all of your words of support!! It was so uplifting to read the positive comments ๐Ÿ™‚

Don’t get discouraged, I’m sure there is a perfect location for you. Inspiration for your move to C’ville: there is a great running/hiking/walking trail up the hill to Monticello from a park at the bottom of the road where you turn to drive up. It is paved, through the woods, and a good steep workout. Give it a try when you are there again.

You’ve definitely been through A LOT these last couple of years with going back to school, interning, etc., so I know this such a heartbreaking experience. However, there has got to be a brightside, and I just know that this will all turn out wonderfully. Good things happen to good people, and I feel that you and Matt are 2 of the best people I “know”. BTW lunch looks splendid! I tried okra fries last night complete with ketchup, and I loved them too! Thanks, Kath!

Hi there! I’m KJ and I’ve been a loyal reader for a few months now.

I have yet to leave any comments, but I thought you could use a few words of encouragement today! You and I are a lot alike, passions for healthy eating, blogging, and SYTYCD ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I thought I’d let you know that I bought a loaf of Great Harvest bread for the first time this week, from a nice man at the farmer’s market. It was harvest wheat, and it was probably the BEST bread I’ve EVER eaten in my life! I’m so glad that I stumbled across your blog a few months ago, it’s what made me stop at the little Great Harvest stand at the market and buy that bread, which is now going to be a weekly purchase at my house, I’m certain!

I am also considering working in the food service industry in some capacity, even though it’s un-related to the B.A. and M.A. degress I worked so hard to get. But we should follow our dreams, right? And do what makes us happy. So keep at it, stay positive, and I hope that you and your team work out a plan for your bakery!

Thanks for all of the delicious posts, I look forward to reading them every day!

Hey Kath! Just remember that everything happens for a reason. I know it sounds cliche but it is so true. This is the way that things are “supposed” to happen…nothing is a mistake. It may be happening so that when it all works out you can appreciate the place even better OR it could be happening because there is an even better place out there for you both. Hang in there for now…everything WILL work out for the best:)

Since you are working with an experienced company, I am sure you have gotten this advice- but just in case: You can’t spend your way out of a bad location. In other words, you can’t spend enough on advertising, promotions, etc to make up for a poor location. It was one of the biggest lessons we learned from our $40,000 business mistake. I would go so far as to say that it may even be worth delaying the opening of your shop to get a better spot (that would have helped our business a lot!)

Probably NOT what you want to hear right now, but I don’t want to see you guys to settle for a location that could really hurt you in the long-run.

As a self-employed person, I can testify that starting is the hardest part!! It gets MUCH easier, so keep your chin up ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck to you guys.

I really enjoy your blog- thanks for keeping good REAL food in front of me ๐Ÿ™‚

sorry to hear about the bakery predicament. ๐Ÿ™ i know it’s cliche to say, but everything happens for a reason. i used to think that was a saying but i just recently began to think it really is true…i was looking back on all the things i considered bad decisions/experiences on my part and realized that very positive things have always come out of it–usually through a person i probably would never have met, had i not gone down the roads i thought i shouldn’t have. sometimes the positive (at least in my case) doesn’t surface til years later…

i’ll bet there’s an even better location for your bakery just around the corner. stay positive! ๐Ÿ™‚

That is so unsettling on the eve of a big move, but no doubt it will lead to an even better situation for you guys. Things just work out a their own pace sometimes. ๐Ÿ˜› I hope it all gets resolved very soon, and in the meantime, keep walking and talking. (Maybe add some yoga breathing, too.) When you don’t get a job or a house you want, you usually find something that fits even better a little way down the road. I don’t walk a lot because I like to get my exercise done fast sometimes. Also, I’m trying to lose weight and I find vigorous exercise dulls my appetite, while long, slow burns (i.e., walking) causes it to increase!
