Vacay RVA

Matt and I took a personal day to head down to Richmond for some bizness.

Earlier this morning I went to a killer cycle class [drank 3 bottles of water to try to stay hydrated and beat this headache – unfortunately it’s still around on and off all day. One of the worst I’ve ever had

Sad smile this !
]

After cycle I sipped some juice. Cycle is my only hard-core high intensity workout of the week and it sure leaves me drained! Juice helps so much to replenish. [Drank about 1/2 the bottle]

IMG_7765

I also packed a few snacks for our car trip down – string cheese for protein

IMG_7767

And grapes for sugar

IMG_7766

Upon Brittany’s recommended, we ended up eating at Capital Ale House. She said they had good bean burgers and she was right!

Also a huge beer list, which made Matt very happy

IMG_7774

He started with a Laughing Dog Barleywine

IMG_7777

And I started with a salad!

IMG_7775

Loved the bowl, the dill bleu cheese and the rye bread croutons!!! Impressive.

IMG_7776

I got that bean burger after all –

IMG_7782

It came with a cilantro slaw that I added from the side (picking out the onions) I ate half the burger and my fries!

IMG_7781

Kanz got the lamb burger with brie – which was also very good

IMG_7778

Then we completed our mission.

And last stop before heading home was Trader Joe’s!

IMG_7783

Stocked up on beer [for him], sunflower butter [for her], smoked fish [for us] and my favorite Nuts About Raspberries trail mix and salty peanuts plus a Larabar I thought I might need on the ride home.

Back in the Ville fighting this headache and starting to think about dinner. See you VERY soon!

I seem to recall getting headaches in my second trimester and the nurse practitioner that I saw said it was due to increased estrogen levels causing mild swelling in the brain causing more frequent headaches.

Just what I was thinking about TJ’s. If I lived that far from a TJ’s, I would probably have a full CART. As it is, since it’s usually a car trip (rather than a bike trip) for us, we still try to stock up and minimize visits, often ending up with an overflowing basket (and a price tag that’s an unpleasant surprise).

My first comment! I usually just read but when I read about your headache I thought I would chime in. I had headaches while I was pregnant with both of my children. At first I thought it was from dehydration, but when I experienced one of the worst headaches I had ever had, I went to the Dr. and found out I was having migraines (which I had never had). I know you do not like to take a lot of medicine, but if they get worse your Dr. can prescribe Darvocet to help. Mine at times were debilitating and as much as I hated to do it, I had to resort to meds…
You may already know that but just in case I thought I would share 🙂 Hope you get to feeling better soon! I love reading both Kerf and Berf!

I’m sure there’s something else a doctor could prescribe if you have to end up going that route (hope the headache’s gone, though!), but Darvocet was banned by the FDA in the last year or two. (Possible cause of heart arrhythmia!)

Have you ever gotten migraines? I know that pregnancy hormones can lead to more migraines and even first migraines for some. I am a migraine sufferer, and I only got ONE during my first pregnancy, and it was killer! I rarely use drugs, but I use some hard core stuff to combat that pain. It was rough only using TYLENOL for pain relief. Yikes. My migraines were always stress related, and the best medicine was always rest and lightening my load. So that is my recommendation!

I am almost exactly as far along as you are in my pregnancy, and I am getting headaches as well! I’ve found that downing a glass of soda INSTANTLY makes mine go away! The small bit of caffeine (only about 40 mg) apparently opens up your blood vessels and helps alleviate the “pressurized” feeling. Just a suggestion, hope you get some relief! :/

I’m sorry to hear you are having headaches. I had them when pregnant also – and at about the exact same point in pregnancy as you. I had no morning sickness so headaches were about all I had to deal with. One thing I did was lay in a dark room with a cold cloth on my head. After about a month they were gone. Hang in there!

My hubby spent several months in Richmond for job training and managed to visit Capital Ale house about twice a week! If I recall correctly, Wednesday nights were ‘steal the mug’ nights – where you got to keep your beer glass. We now have a ridiculous amount of random beer glasses.
