Half Full

I don’t quite know what’s up with my appetite today. I’ve been full ALL afternoon and didn’t even want to eat dinner. But it was one of those nauseous times when I thought eating might help, so while Kanz worked on a homemade coffee table with reclaimed wood [exciting!], I made dinner in 5 minutes.

Bison Taco Salads

I browned the bison (8 ounces – the second half of Sunday’s pack) in Southwestern seasoning along with yellow frozen corn and jalepenos (the bell pepper I was also supposed to use was used in last night’s pizza!). Then we layered on baby spinach, Red Hot & Blue chips, homemade guac and lots of greek yogurt. Salsa on top!

The guac was just 2 small mashed avocados (the baby is the size of a large avocado this week!) along with lemon juice and salt.

Sadly I only got halfway through and just couldn’t stomach any more. So Matt got an extra portion! Headache still lingers. Took another Tylenol and going to try peppermint essential oil in a bit. Don’t want to drink caffeine this close to bed time, but I’ll be having it with breakfast for sure.

After dinner we went for a 20 minute walk around the block to digest. The whole time we were on the porch this afternoon working, I kept wondering where Pumpkin was. Sometimes we don’t see her for quite a few days. Right when we returned from our walk, Matt whispered “Pumpkiiiiin” and she came darting from our FRONT porch ready to greet us!! So cute. She is now taking a bath on my food photography cloth, so there’s some laundry for tomorrow : )

Feel better, Kath! I hope you figure out your headache before I come down there. Or maybe I’ll help make it go away 🙂

I never really knew how to ‘eat intuitively’ until I got pregnant. I used to eat at scheduled times, not when I was hungry, and always cleared my plate. Now I find I can step away from a meal when I am full and I’ve completely lost the “must clean the plate” mentality. (Which is a good thing!) Baby is teaching me things already!

You’re not alone! I haven’t even eaten dinner yet and usually I’d be dying if I didn’t have food! Don’t think my neck+back pain is helping either..

    hope you feel better soon!

That’s funny you say that about your cat because I was at the vet with my dog yesterday and there was this huge poster that said “Have you seen your cat today?” I’m a dog lover, so I don’t really get cats, but I guess they just leave for days at a time sometimes?

Hi, I have a 4 month old and a two year old. I got that awful headache in the 2nd trimester with both pregnancies. The only thing I found to really help was drinking a large smart water daily… And refilling it all day with filtered water but the smart water was key. It also helped a few of my pregnant friends. Hope you feel better!

Do you have Tiger Balm? That stuff is such a relief when it comes to headaches. You just rub a bit on the temples and it’s sooo soothing! Pick some up if you’re out – it’s like $3 and at any Whole Foods or health food store 🙂

    Hey Kath –

I follow your posts religiously, and I’m really jealous of how you plan meals so well and keep your fridge sparse! Have you done a post on how you plan meals/stay on top of deals/plan your grocery store trips, etc? I’d love one of those! I’m always struggling to plan ahead, especially as a college student (soon to be graduate-student). Thanks!

      Hey Brie,
In this post I talk about my grocery store staples. I try to just get the minimum I need and rely on pantry and freezer to fill in the rest. Hope it helps! https://www.katheats.com/sweating-in-my-sweater

Do you use an excel sheet to plan recipes? Where do you find them or do you create your own? I’m pretty creative, but sometimes I hit the big ole’ rut. Womp.

I don’t really plan them… I just have in my head a meat, a bean, a fish, a pasta and then add veggies to them (1-2 per night)

So it’s not the most “nutritious” way to get ready of a pregnancy headache, but my doc always prescribed a regular old Coca Cola and it always did the trick!

Towards the end of the pregnancy, it’s hard to eat for a different reason.. your stomach is going to be all pushed up by the baby in the uterus!

    Hi Kath,
I saw that you’ve been suffering with a headache and nothing is making it go away. I just wanted to mention that this used to happen to me all the time. I realized I was low in sodium and now I drink a salty homemade energy drink when I work out a lot and really sweat. I take a washed out pasta jar fill it with filtered water and add 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tsp honey or maple syrup. Place the lid on and shake like crazy and drink. I no longer get headaches, it’s seriously amazing!! I hope this helps.
