Too Much Fun

My very favorite activities include (in this order)

1) Being at the beach with my family

2) Getting dressed up for special events + restaurants

3) Biking to run errands on beautiful days

We departed for the grocery store, run, greenway, etc. around 11 and arrived at Kate + Nate’s  (which is ON the greenway) about 30 minutes later – just as Michelle + Ben were pulling up!! Last night’s party continued over exercise.

Michelle, Ben + Kate took Gilbert on a walk while Matt, Nate, and I went running.

K+N in love!

DSC09253 (1024x768)

We ran about 4 miles and discussed blogs much of the time 🙂 Here were my run stats:

Time: 38:12

Distance: ~4 miles, maybe just a hair longer

Avg. HR: 162

Max HR: 173

Calories: 341

After we said goodbye to our friends, we continued the journey to Trader Joe’s along the greenway on bike.

You guys frequently ask questions about my grocery shopping habits. This week wasn’t the most organized, but I did take a photo of our list. I keep a running list of things we are out of or things that pop into my head as cravings (mango!) throughout the week on ToDoist. Then when it’s time to go I make a meal plan with a few recipes (which almost always get changed around as our days and stomachs dictate). Lastly, I check Harris Teeter’s online sales and write down some prices so when I’m at Trader Joe’s or Costco or Fresh Market I can compare for the best deal. We ended up getting apples, lettuce, and zucchini at Fresh Market because they were less than all of the above stores. I’ve noticed that many of the grocery stores are having some mega deals lately.

DSC09256 (1024x768)

The highlight of the trip was purchasing the coveted Fresh Market Spring Blend Coffee. One of my very favorites!!! I got a decaf and a caf and am going to mix them 50/50. I think I am no longer addicted to coffee (I’ve been skipping it headache free) but we’ll see if this means I am less jittery too.

IMG_4143 (1024x768)

I also got some more of this Annie’s Woodstock dressing. I don’t like many bottled dressings, but I like this one. It’s cheesy like nutritional yeast. It’s super expensive though, so even though I was all out last summer, I made myself wait a long time to buy it again.

IMG_4144 (1024x768)

Another shopping find: Bourbon Sugar Pecans!!! Found these at Fresh Market. Oatmeal topping of the year?

IMG_4146 (1024x768)

After a quick stop into Harris Teeter for a few last items, we were home at 2pm. I was surprisingly not that hungry, but probably because I had breakfast in the 10:00 hour. I knew exactly what I wanted: something GREEN!

IMG_4150 (1024x768)

A big salad with:

  • Romaine + arugula (a favorite but it’s expensive 🙁 )
  • Sauteed zucchini + squash + green pepper + carrot
  • Tossed in Woodstock
  • Avocado
  • Craisins
  • Salted peanuts
  • Wasabi peas (Matt’s treat of the day)

IMG_4151 (1024x768)

IMG_4155 (1024x768)

Annnddd an Apple Cheddar sandwich on Great Harvest Fruit + Grain Bread.

IMG_4153 (1024x768)

I was going to put all my energy into the salad, but Matt sliced up this huge apple and some cheddar and I had a taste of them together and knew I had to make a sandwich that combined them. So delicious!

IMG_4152 (1024x768)

IMG_4147 (1024x768)

His sandwich was HUUUUGEE and oh-so-good too. Sun-dried tomato + fennel seed bread with turkey + cheese + avocado. I had a big bite after I heard him going “Mmmmm mmmmmmmmmmm” too many times. It was really good!

IMG_4154 (1024x768)

I have YET to shower and our house is pretty dirty (grass, etc. on the floors) but I need to do some school work so I’m taking my computer out to the yard to get started in the pretty setting while I have daylight. This is going to be our best day of the week, so I gotta soak it up!

I am so impressed by how professional you are for grocery shopping. I always make a grocery list, but it’s basically hand-written and extremely organized to where only I can understand it haha.

Another delicious “Salad by Kath” :)!!! Thanks for another great one to add to my list of salads to try.

Quick question about yogadownloads again: So I downloaded all of the free 20 minute sessions, but now I want to buy some longer ones. What are your favorite 30+ minute sessions? Any suggestions?

I am so jealous of the Greenway! and that you have a group of exercise buddies. I remember you posting a long time ago about how hard it is to make friends at our age (w.out babies) and I’m really happy for you that you’ve found such a nice group. It is really hard to meet new people in your 20s, we are moving soon (again) and it’s a little stressful to think about.

That half-caf coffee looks great. I should get some of that. I don’t drink that much coffee so I get the jitters big time, but I really LIKE drinking it so maybe if I switch to half-caf I can indulge and not develop the habit and not get the spaziod coffee jitters that I get 🙂

    Kim ,
I do in the summertime. Our FM isn’t that great (lots of people buying stuff from across the country and selling it there). It’s so hard to know what is truly local. Harris Teeter has little flags that tell what is local, so often I find it easier to just go there.

I am with you on wasabi peas for salads! Or by themselves, for that matter. Talk about addictive! And your grocery list style reminds me of my own – I just add as I think of things and then compare it against a meal plan for the week – it has really helped me cut down on impulse buys.
